Chapter Text
May, 20-something? (note to self: study the human calendar more.)
Entry number 1
To whomever stumbles upon this journal, congrats! You are now the proud owner of written musings of a species other than your own. You wouldn’t have known otherwise, nor would you have ever suspected the author is me if we ever got to meet in person. I look so typical of any "Morgrem", unless you count my curled hair as notable enough. But I'm more than your average Devious Pokémon. The reason your human concepts like writing or basic maths come so easily to me? It's because I'm Fey, if only partially. Maybe I will find time to explain myself later on. For now I would rather clear up a few common misconceptions you humans have about the residents here in the Ghlodwud, or Glimwood Tangle as you humans call it. Yes, wild Pokémon have developed our own naming systems for various things. Shocking, I know. Anyway, perhaps clearing things will erase the fear and distrust toward our kind, or at least lessen it. Personally I find your human culture fascinating, and I would hate to see my efforts go to waste.
I'll only focus on my own evolution family, which I promise are not nearly as villainous as you paint us to be. First of all, you are correct in that we sense the feelings of other living things especially negative emotions. But that is where the facts end. We (almost) never purposefully go out of our way to cause you grief nor feast on the frustration you produce through our noses. (how did that rumor even start? honestly.) We are a curious bunch but tend to lack the social standards you established. (I'll admit seeing humans give in to their frustration is a bit amusing.) Clumsiness is partially to blame at least among the Impidimp. It can't be helped. Small bodies, large heads, and gangly limbs do make for an awkward center of balance when running about. Many of them are eager to evolve, at least just to Morgrem stage. Arguably it's the best form of the three, with our svelte body, sharp claws, long silky hair, the fringe that gives us that extra air of mystery...
Getting off track there. Our diet. No, we are omnivorous. Impidimp prefer fruits and berries but the diet shifts to a more meat centric one the more evolutions we go through. I notice a similar flavor preference in humans also. Children greatly prefer sweeter foods while the adults have a more refined palette. Maybe we are more similar than we realise? I'll have to research this some other time.
Anyway, on to the next point. How we even exist at all? Humans who claim to have studied us have all agreed we are a male only species which has puzzled some as to how we survive at all. Every species needs to be able to breed to replace those that grow old and die. But interbreeding with any female members of other Pokémon would produce eggs of only the mother's species, right? Well humans, you missed the mark again! The reality is there actually are no Pokémon in existence that are a single gender race. The ratio is just extremely lopsided, to the point we go to extreme measures to ensure there are enough breeding pairs in the wild. In the case of Grimmsnarl and Hatterene at least, they keep to the deepest reaches of the Ghlodwud where its nearly impossible for humans to safely reach on foot. And even if they did? Well... it's best to say the stories on the sheer brutality of both final evolutions aren't completely unwarranted. I've been to the grounds myself just once only out of curiosity. I'll state this much, there's no obvious difference in female Grimmsnarl and male Hatterene from their usual forms at a glance. As Fey I cannot lie about this, you're not missing much if you're wanting a unique member of either family. For the sake of your Pokémon and yourself, stick to your "Shiny Hunting".
The last thing I want to clear is that long held belief of Morgrem and our talent for growing plantlife. That one does hold more truth than the other two. It's not an innate thing we know how to do, but is an advanced skill we call floramagic. Only a small handful of members are chosen to learn the art from elders. It's difficult to learn and takes many moons of practice to start seeing results, and those that master it will stay clear from any passing humans in our home just to pass the knowledge onto the next generation someday. It has no practical use in battles, it's mainly reserved for times of need such as that fire that raged through our home a couple of decades ago. Many Pokémon had sadly perished, including some of our floramages. It took ages to heal the damage done between the remaining users and Shiinotic to restore as much as we could have. Though I did hear of the Trevenant that protect these woods did find the human responsible and gave them the punishment they deserved.
Whew, that was a lot to cover on just three little misunderstandings! There is so much I'm wanting to share but I'm going to have to end this for now since my hand is beginning to cramp. Next time maybe I'll dive deeper into the daily lives of the residents in Ghlodwud, or whatever topic catches my interest. Note to organise future entries better.
