Work Text:

It was just supposed to be a simple get together with friends. Handong expected that she and her friends would just eat dinner, catch up on their lives, bicker about a silly thing or two, and even play some games. She never thought the night would end like this.

"Dong-unnie," Gahyeon sniffled audibly. "I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry."

Handong shook her head frantically. Betrayals, Handong was sure, were common in these situations knowing the current state that they are in. Her lover betraying her like this should be something she expected, but alas, she was a fool.

"Gahyeon, let's talk about this," Handong's voice wavers as she begs. "Don't do this. Don't you love me?"

Gahyeon screws her eyes shut and looks away from Handong as if it would help her avoid the guilt of doing something so unforgivable to the other woman.

"I always knew it would end like this," Gahyeon sighs, defeatedly. It pains her, really. She knows Handong won't forgive her for what she's about to do but it was inevitable. It is harsh world they're living in, after all.

"Gahyeon, it's time." Yubin reminds her. The woman doesn't look at them and sits at the side to not get involved.

Gahyeon nods and looks at Yoohyeon who puts her hand in her shoulder and squeezes gently in support.

"No, no, no!" Handong screams as she struggles from the iron grip the two oldest women in their group have on her.

Without Bora and Minji holding Handong by her waist, the woman would be on Gahyeon by now.

Gahyeon meets Handong's pleading, almost teary, gaze before she utters down her last words that will seal Handong's fate.

"I'm sorry, unnie...

+4."

"NO!"

Handong's anguished wails is chorused by Siyeon and Yoohyeon's cheers from being saved from the painful and very tiring task of washing the dishes.

Gahyeon's +4 card is the last straw, apparently, to Handong's demise. (It was also her last card.) An additional twenty four cards in the last leg of the game isn't something one can simply recover from. Handong might as well have lost then and there. With that said, Handong sulks.

Gahyeon, and Bora jump around the living room in celebration while screaming at the top of their lungs. Thank God, it's not me this time, the pair cheers.

Yubin is also happy that she isn't the one washing the dishes this time. She didn't win the game but at least she didn't lose terribly.

Amidst all the cheers, she notices someone who's been quiet after the intial burst of anguish. From her spot on the floor, she turns towards Handong and shivers starts climbing up her spine.

"Uh, guys?" Yubin calls the others, eyes never leaving Handong's unmoving figure. Her first call goes unnoticed.

Whether it was stupid of Yubin to approach the danger herself instead of calling for the other girls again louder this time or not, she'll decide later. For now, she's near enough that she can clearly make out how the other woman's shoulders are moving and the faint chuckles coming from her.

"Handong, are you–"

Handong suddenly bursts from her crouching position with a battle cry that sounds closer to a cat yowling than human and runs towards Gahyeon with murder in her eyes.

(Yubin shrieks uncharacteristically as she falls back on her butt in surprise.

Nobody except Minji notices but she decides to tease the woman about it later. For now, she grabs the snack bowl.)

Gahyeon, who knew what was about to go down the second she heard the inhuman noise, is already running towards the kitchen.

"Come back here and face me like the woman you are, midget!"

"Handong, honey! Let's talk about this!"

"Oh, so now you wanna talk? The only person you'll talk to is our couch where you will be sleeping!"

"Unnie, a couch is not a person–"

"I don't care!"

The other five people left in the couple's wake huddle together in the middle of the living room, trying to occupy the least amount of space possible.

"Shouldn't we stop them?" Siyeon asks from the middle of their huddle.

"Nah, they'll figure it out," Bora answers from her perch in Siyeon's shoulder. Handong and Gahyeon, as a couple, were always dramatic in their fights with Handong being a theater kid and Gahyeon, a small bundle of chaotic energy.

"Besides, they'll tire themselves up in five minutes. Might as well enjoy the show and eat something."

At the mention of eating, Minji immediately offers the bowl filled with snacks she managed to save from its spot on the coffee table before Gahyeon toppled it to obstruct Handong.

Like a well-oiled machine, they immediately settle in their spots with Yoohyeon and Yubin grabbing pillows and blankets from the couch and laying them down on the floor for the group's comfort.

The girls munch on their snacks and bet amongst themselves while purposely ignoring the mayhem that was happening in their kitchen.

Life is good
