Work Text:

“thank you, come again!” the chime of the bell atop the door rung as the customer walked out, leaving just the two baristas and few lone patrons in the cafe.

a few beeps could be heard as tracy tapped a few buttons on the cash register, and the clanking of glasses reverberated around the quiet cafe. “so, lover boy, made a move yet?”
luca felt a nudge to his side, glancing over at tracy who had a cheeky grin on her face whilst she wiped down a glass with a cloth.

“does it look like i have?” he pouted, gaze wandering back to the pretty boy who sat at the same table as usual, in the corner next to the window.

luca was in a daze, staring across the room at that one particular person. this certain regular had caught his attention from the moment he saw him. the guy couldn’t help but stare.

his childhood friend and coworker, tracy, was more than happy to take the opportunity to tease him.

the distracted barista watched closely as the pretty blonde patron pushed his pen against his lip in thought, pulling it away a moment later to take a sip of his mocha. upon pulling his cup away, his tongue swiped against his lips. the way luca choked on air was enough to show how attractive that must’ve looked to him.

tracy, who was observing the ordeal, let out a laugh, setting down the glass she had been holding. “feeling a little thirsty there, lu?” she teased. luca had his hand clutched over his mouth, embarrassed at the sound he had made.

“why is he so pretty.. i cant handle this anymore ughh” luca held his head in his hands, letting out frustrated whines at his dumb ass not having enough confidence to just talk to him, nor take his orders for coffee. a moment later, he was peeking out at tracy upon feeling her tap his shoulder. she had a pen and paper in her hand, slipping them infront of him. “you need to try something, lu. anything. write on this! like.. your number! that could work”

lowering his hands, he took a glance up at the blonde boy who was deep in focus whilst writing something. “yeah.. maybe i should try that.”

after a while, the chime of the door could be heard. tracy took no time nudging luca towards the cash register upon hearing it. “enough dawdling around, im not doing all the work today again.”

with a small huff, luca did as asked, taking the order and making the unnecessarily long order for a single coffee whilst tracy laughed at his suffering. the taller barista was wiping down the counter a little, one hand fixing the position of his name tag on his apron, when he heard his friends giddy call for him.

“hey, look who’s coming over!” lucas heart was hammering in his chest by the time he looked up. because there he was. standing right in front of him was the pretty boy in all his glory.

luca turned around, about to push tracy to take his place at the register, but alas, she had already retreated further back, giving him two thumbs up as support.

he sheepishly turned back around, smiling nervously at the man who was clutching a piece of paper in his hands. paper in his… wait. had tracy given him the note? oh no. there was an audible gulp from the barista, “hi! can i take your order?”

a pause ensued before the pretty blonde man responded. not in words, but with a little shake of his head. he lowered the paper, placing it down and pushing it towards luca who read it right away
‘i hope youll take the time to read my letter for you. please dont feel pressured to give me a response. i simply wished to share my feelings.’
ah. so it wasnt his note? luca wasn’t exactly sure whether he should be thankful for that.

but, a letter? he had written a letter? feelings? luca was incredibly confused. the blonde man reached into his bag, pulling out a cute pink envelope sealed with a heart sticker. how adorable.

the envelope was handed to luca, and before he could say another word, the pretty boy waved awkwardly and rushed out of the cafe, walking with a tight grip on the strap of his bag.

luca stared in awe at the place his crush had been standing for a moment, looking down at the envelope in his hands. he opened it, being careful not to rip the sticker in the process. his eyes set upon the beautiful cursive writing, and he began to read.

‘dear luca,

ever since i began to come to this cafe, i have been incredibly intrigued by you. your voice, your appearance, your demeanour, its all so alluring to me. i have yearned to talk to you.
whenever i see you, my chest feels tight, my head feels dizzy and my legs get weak, but in a good way. that in itself and many other factors have led me to believe i like you. as in, i like like you.
i dont expect you to return my feelings. thats not what the purpose of this was. i just wished to inform you of how i feel.
you can respond or pretend this never happened, i wont be upset if you choose to do the latter.
no matter what you choose to do, i just hope you won’t continue to avoid me like you seemingly have been. id like to at least be friends. you seem like a fun person!

yours truly, victor grantz’

wow. the bright smile on lucas red dusted face could never show just how excited he was to see victor again.
