Revival Anxiety

Summary:

Chicken Choice Judy starts performing again after being defunct for a decade. Min gets nervous about this.

Notes:

Two fics from me in the span of one month? It's a Christmas (in July) miracle! But yeah, this isn't the rymin fic I've been slowly working on over the past two months. I wrote this fic in one night.

Work Text:

Chicken Choice Judy never exactly reached stardom back in the day. But they still acquired a decently-sized fanbase due to positive word of mouth. Ryan and Min-gi had performed several shows, with the size of their audience increasing a little almost every time. But around 2009, burnout hit them like a truck, so they had to go on hiatus. And they had gotten married during their off-time. Though they didn’t come out while the band was active, most fans had been able to figure out that something was going on between them. A decade later, something peculiar happened. Their music was having a steady surge in popularity, thanks to a certain video sharing app. Ryan and Min were extremely confused by the site’s culture, but they certainly didn’t mind their work’s newfound exposure. And that encouraged them to start performing again.

Ryan and Min were in their van, in the parking lot of the auditorium where they were set to perform. This show was going to be much more packed than any of their previous ones. In fact, this performance was their first one where the tickets had sold out! Ryan was extremely excited by this. On the other hand, Min was less enthusiastic. He had never truly gotten over his stage fright; he had just gotten better at hiding it.

“Hey Min, are you coming? You wouldn’t want me to be alone on the stage again, especially during our first performance in a decade.”

Admittedly, Ryan never letting Min live those two moments down did subtly encourage him to not run off the stage back then.

“Sorry, it’s just… i-it’s been such a long time… I just don’t know if I still have it in me…”

Ryan wrapped an arm around Min’s shoulder.

“Babe, of course you do. I’ve heard you practicing. You’re still the talented man I fell in love with.”

Min’s cheeks lit up. Even after the two had been together for so long, they still blushed so easily around each other.

“Yeah… but also there’s way more people in the audience analyzing all my imperfections”

“Well, does it really matter what a few nitpickers think, compared to all the loyal fans cheering you on?”

“…I guess not”

“That’s what I thought. Now let’s get to that stage!”

They exited their van. But not before Min gave Ryan a gentle kiss on the cheek. It was usually Ryan who initiated their affection, so Min doing that instead was always a pleasant surprise for him.

“Thanks for the encouragement”

And so, the duo went into the stadium and gave a rocking performance!
