Work Text:

My Love (1 new message):

‘Hurry home, I have a surprise for you, xoxo~’

Doyoung reads the text as soon as it appears on his screen, not giving it more than a cursory glance before turning his eyes back to his work computer. As much as he would like to reply to the message, he can’t — shouldn’t.

If Doyoung starts texting back, he won’t be able to stop. His lover, Jaehyun, is very distracting and the last thing he needs is to have his boss in his ear about “slacking off on the job” again. He resists the temptation to pick up his phone, fixing his glasses up on the bridge of his nose and eyeing color-coded files on his computer.

As much as he would like to “hurry home” — the chances of that happening are low. His shift isn’t set to end for another two hours — and that’s only if he finishes this project by then. It’s looking like an overtime kind of night, considering he isn’t even halfway done with his workload of the day.

A sigh escapes Doyoung’s lips, heavy and laced with both frustration and exhaustion. He takes off his glasses to drag his hands over his face, rubbing over his eyes sleepily. The promise of a surprise and his boyfriend waiting at home for him is the only thing keeping him from rage-quitting his job right now.

Jaehyun stares down at his phone screen after hitting send on his message. Five minutes pass. No reply. Must be another busy night for him, Jaehyun thinks to himself as he slips his phone onto the nightstand. Usually if Doyoung doesn’t reply within five minutes, it means he saw it and just can’t reply at the moment — or he’s not by his phone.

Considering Doyoung always keeps his phone nearby in case Jaehyun needs to reach him, his silence indicates that he’s just busy. All the better for Jaehyun. It will make his surprise more effective.

Jaehyun walks into their bathroom, hitching a breath at the feeling of the cold tile floor against his bare feet as he makes his way towards the bathtub. There’s a shopping bag in his hand — filled with little things he picked out from the self-care aisle of the grocery store while out shopping earlier. He sets the bag down and sits at the edge of their garden style bathtub, plugging the drain before pulling the handle for hot water forward.

Since it’s safe to assume Doyoung will be running a little late, Jaehyun doesn’t bother with adding any cold water, this way it will hopefully be the perfect temperature to soak in by the time Doyoung gets home. The tub fills slowly and he watches it slowly rise until it reaches a decently shallow level, perfect to begin adding the products he bought.

Jaehyun reaches into his shopping bag taking items out one by one: bath salts, bubble bath liquid, shampoo, and body wash. All of the items make up a full set, everything scented vanilla. Doyoung’s favorite scent.

Jaehhyun pours in the bath salts first, watching them settle to the bottom of the tub. He uses half of the container before moving onto the liquid bubble bath, pouring it directly under the running water to make bubbles form faster. Just like with the salts, he pours in half the container before putting the lid back on and setting the bottle aside.

He leaves the tub to fill up, taking a trip to the kitchen to look through the liquor cabinet. He goes for a recent addition to their small collection — Choco Noir — a sweet chocolate wine with an alcohol percentage of 14% — perfect for Doyoung.

The bottle is unopened. It’s brand new, something Jaehyun bought and stashed away to save for a special occasion. Two wine glasses occupy his left hand, the bottle of wine in his right hand as he carries the items to the bathroom, setting them on the flat marble surrounding their bath.

Jaehyun cuts off the water, seeing as the water has risen more than enough and an unbelievable amount of bubbles have completely hidden the water’s surface. He retrieves a candle from the hall closet where they keep all their linens and scented products to make the house smell good.

Amber And Vanilla Blossom. Doyoung’s current favorite scent. Half of their candle collection is made up of this one alone because Doyoung loves it so much.

Jaehyun brings a lighter to the candle’s wick, waiting for the small flame to transfer over. The candle gleams with a soft yellow light, warming in his palm before he sets it down. Only one thing left to do now.

Jaehyun exits their bathroom and enters their connected master bedroom, stepping into their spacious walk-in wardrobe. Majority of the space is taken up by his own clothing, seeing as he has a strong fondness for fashion. Doyoung’s half — technically less than half — of the wardrobe is more minimalistic. Fewer clothes with simpler variety. Mostly plain casual and business casual attire.

Jaehyun picks out a pair of pajamas for Doyoung, and then a pair for himself. He chooses a matching pair that Doyoung recently bought, but they have yet to wear. The pajamas are made from a satin material, red-wine in color, and complete with a button-down top and pants. They feel smooth to the touch and Jaehyun can’t think of a better time to wear them than after tonight’s bath.

He gets the pajamas laid out in the bathroom, neatly folded and left on the countertop. Everything is set-up and ready. Jaehyun checks his phone, opening his message to Doyoung.

‘Message seen 1 hour ago.’

Jaehyun sits at the edge of the tub, pinching away at foaming bubbles that threaten to escape past the tub’s edge. Now, all that’s left is to wait.

By the time Doyoung’s shift ends, he can barely keep his eyes open. For a brief moment — in the midst of yawning behind the wheel — he contemplates calling Jaehyun and asking him to come pick him up. He’s exhausted.

Doyoung can’t get the front door open quick enough when he finally makes it home — fumbling with the lock and nearly dropping his keys more than once.

“Jaehyun,” Doyoung yawns, “I’m home.”

There’s no reply at first and Doyoun figures Jaehyun has probably fallen asleep. He wouldn’t blame him if he did, Doyoung worked late after all, and Jaehyun is by no means a night owl.

“Come here, I’m in the bathroom,” Jaehyun calls back.

Doyoung scrunches his face up at that.

“I don’t want to sit with you while you use the bathroom, Jaehyun.”

Doyoung steps out of his shoes and sets them on the shoe rack by the front door before walking to his and Jaehyun’s shared bedroom.

“I’m not on the toilet, just come here. I have a surprise for you.”

Ah right, the surprise, Doyoung remembers the text now. Though, he’s a bit skeptical about what kind of surprise would be waiting for him in the bathroom.

He steps into the bathroom, prepared to ask questions before pausing to take in the scene in front of him. “Oh? What’s all of this?” The lights are dimmed and the bath is filled with bubbles, a candle of his favorite scent lit in the middle of two wine glasses poured up halfway, presumably from the wine bottle that he doesn’t recognize off to the side.

“For you,” Jaehyun stands, walking over to Doyoung and helping him out of his suit jacket. “You’ve seemed so much more stressed lately and I can tell that all of these long shifts are getting to you.”

Doyoung only hums in reply, letting Jaehyun undo the buttons of his work shirt as he continues.

“I wanted to do something nice for you, to help you unwind.” Jaehyun pushes Doyoung’s shirt off of his shoulders, letting it join his suit jacket on the floor.

“Wow,” Doyoung muses, lost for words, “I don’t know what to say. Thank you.”

Jaehyun reaches for Doyoung’s glasses, sliding them off his face and setting them on the counter. “Don’t thank me yet, you haven’t even gotten to experience the greatness of your surprise.”

Jaehyun steps back to undress himself when Doyoung shoos him away from helping him out of his clothes. Jaehyun steps into the bathtub first, sinking into the water with a hum of approval. “You’re going to love this,” he grins, waving Doyoung over.

Doyoung steps into the bathtub after him and oh — the water is perfect, hot against his skin but not enough to be scalding. His legs nearly give out right there and he has to hold onto the sides of the tub to slowly ease himself into the water. His body disappears under the bubbles and a happy sigh falls past his lips as he leans back against his lover’s chest.

“Jaehyun, I—” Doyoung is at a loss for words, “this is so perfect .”

He doesn’t even need to look back to know that Jaehyun is smiling, undoubtedly proud of himself for coming up with this idea. If Doyoung had any ounce of energy left in his body, he’d turn around and kiss Jaehyun. Instead, he stays where he’s at — warm under the water and buried beneath a mountain of vanilla scented bubbles — using Jaehyun’s chest as a pillow.

“I think you’re going to like this,” Jaehyun is holding one of the wine glasses in front of him.

He takes the glass, lightly sipping at first. Just to taste. And then another sip — because it’s so fucking good. Doyoung finishes his glass before Jaehyun even gets a chance to grab his own.

“Oh my god, that was so good. What is that? It tastes like chocolate.”

Jaehyun laughs as he refills Doyoung’s glass for him.

“It’s chocolate wine. I figured you would like it.”

“I love it,” Doyoung hums contentedly while sipping his second glass, “you know me so well.”

Jaehyun sips his glass of wine along with Doyoung. The bathroom is silent — a comfortable silence — as they drink, enjoying the warm ambience stemming from the relaxing set-up of it all.

Jaehyun sets his empty wine glass off to the side, bringing his wet hands up to play with his boyfriend’s hair. Doyoung sighs through his nose — a relaxed, happy sigh — as Jaehyun’s fingers comb through his hair.

“That feels good,” Doyoung hums appreciatively.

“Yea?”

Doyoung hums again, “Yea.”

“I have something that will make it better.”

Doyoung doesn’t know how it could possibly get better until he spots the shampoo bottle Jaehyun is reaching for. He skims the label with his eyes — vanilla — his favorite scent. All the little details of this bath set-up consist of his favorite things. Doyoung wants to melt.

Jaehyun works shampoo into Doyoung’s hair, watching the way it foams up around his fingers as he cards them through his lover’s hair, gently massaging his scalp in the process. The happy sounds Doyoung gives is very rewarding and spurs Jaehyun on. He lets his hands fall from Doyoung’s hair, sliding down to his shoulders and giving a light squeeze before lightly massaging them, aiming to rid Doyoung of any tension.

“Ah~”

Doyoung has stopped being able to form words at this point, responding to Jaehyun’s tender care with only sighs and content groans as he works all of the tension out of Doyoung’s body with massaging touches.

“If you keep this up, I’m going to fall asleep,” Doyoung warns.

Jaehyun just laughs.

Doyoung lets his eyes close as Jaehyun’s palms slide down over his chest before finding his arms, giving gentle, yet firm, squeezes that start at Doyoung’s bicep and move down to his wrists. The light pressure feels good and makes his arms go limp.

Doyoung is boneless at this point. His limbs feel like putty. He is convinced that he is no longer a solid human being — but rather a relaxed, melted, puddle of happiness.

“You’re falling asleep, love~” Jaehyun lightly shakes his shoulder and his eyelids flutter open to see a bottle of vanilla-scented body wash being held in front of him. “Go ahead and wash up so you can get to bed.”

Doyoung yawns. Bed sounds like a great idea.

Doyoung takes his time washing up — not because he wants to take his time — but rather because he is incapable of moving any faster, having no energy whatsoever. The fact that his limbs still feel like jelly only slows the process further.

Jaehyun washes his back for him, moving away from him briefly to wash himself next. Doyoung dozes off again when Jaehyun brings down the shower nozzle to rinse Doyoung hair free of shampoo before moving on to rinse the suds from the bubble bath off their bodies.

Doyoung blinks his eyes open so that he can step into the fluffy towel Jaehyun is holding open for him. When Jaehyun closes the towel around him and hugs his body against his chest, Doyoung nearly falls asleep again.

“Wakey wakey, sleepy head.” Jaehyun brings Doyoung back to the present by toweling his hair dry for him. “Your pajamas are on the counter.”

Doyoung spots the matching pajama set he’d bought for them and internally awes at Jaehyun’s choice of picking them out for tonight. It was a small gesture, but it really makes Doyoung happy as he slips into the satin pajamas, enjoying the smooth, cool feeling of the fabric against his skin.

Jaehyun changes into his pajamas and then scoops Doyoung up bridal style, startling a yelp from Doyoung in the process.

“There you go, my sleepy prince~” Jaehyun coos as he lays Doyoung down on their bed.

Doyoung smiles sleepily and snuggles into Jaehyun’s arms when he lays down beside him, resting his head on Jaehyun’s chest and listening to his heartbeat.

“I loved your surprise,” Doyoung says sleepily, “I really needed that.”

“I’m glad you enjoyed it. That’s all that matters to me.”

Jaehyun cards a hand through Doyoung’s slightly damp hair, massaging his scalp with his fingers again and making Doyoung’s eyes slip shut in content.

Doyoung feels relaxed mentally, emotionally, and physically. All the frustration he felt from work has melted away and he feels like he’s floating on a cloud. This was the perfect way to end his stressful work week — and to begin his weekend off.

“I love you,” Doyoung presses a kiss to Jaehyun’s chest, over the satin material of his pajama top, “you’re the best.”

Jaehyun drops his hand from Doyoung’s hair to wrap around his waist, pulling him in closer and pressing a kiss to the top of his head, sleepily replying, “I love you more.”

“No,” Doyoung sleepily mumbles from Jaehyun’s chest, “I love you more.”

“I love you— ” Jaehyun yawns— “the most.”

Doyoung argues back in his head, but doesn’t get any actual words out because he’s already asleep. He vows to continue the feud of who loves who more as soon as they wake up. But for now, he’s completely gone — dead to the world — fast asleep in his lover’s arms.
