Work Text:
Deimos was reclined in his bed, one hand stretched up over his head and the other at his mouth; a cigarette between his fingers. The smoke drifted up towards the ceiling like a winding silver snake, dissipating once it reached its destination. He took a drag, the embers briefly lighting from the ash until he exhaled the smoke. It was a sickening habit to the rest of them, but Deimos tended not to care about what the others thought about it. At least he was nice enough to keep smoking in his room rather than in the house around all of them.
Doc always found a way to sneak into a conversation— to ask him to quit smoking. Deimos didn’t really listen. He agreed with what Doc said, shortening your life, yadda yadda… but he didn’t really see the point.
However… Hank had deterred him from smoking just a little. They complained so sweetly and softly once that he wanted him by his side for longer. Smoking wasn't going to help fulfill that dream. Deimos went from smoking a pack a day or more, to only one or two cigarettes a day. On a lucky day, he didn’t smoke at all.
That charming bastard.
Deimos felt incredibly lucky that Hank considered him his partner though. He couldn’t complain too much.
He closed his eyes, taking another deep inhale of his cig. Just as he was exhaling, the door opened just a crack, prompting him to prop himself up a little to see who it was. He coughed slightly, hitting his chest with a fist to get ahold of himself. “...Hello?”
“...Can I come in?” A deep voice murmured, filled with exhaustion. He could see a black-gloved hand creep up the door frame from the outside. Hank.
“Oh, yeah!” He quickly put his cigarette into an ashtray that was on a side table by the bed, stubbing it out so it would stop smoking as much. A few tendrils of smoke still floated away, but it wasn’t as bad. “Uh, come in. It might be smoky.”
Hank mumbled something along the lines of ‘I don’t care’ and pushed his way in, shutting the door behind him. They silently slid off their coat and gloves, and everything else, give for a black tank top underneath his coat and the pants he was already wearing. He was already without his goggles and mask.
As soon as he could he crawled into the bed with Deimos, getting right on top of him— tucking their head under his chin. Deimos lowered his arms to wrap them around Hank’s shoulders, one hand tracing slow, shapeless lines on his neck. “Rough day?” Deimos asked softly.
“Mm.” Was the only thing Hank said, but Deimos understood. He just needed time to relax. Deimos made a good pillow when they needed one, and Hank made a good— albeit heavy— blanket.
“Wanna talk about it?”
“No.” Hank slid his hands behind Deimos’s back, squeezing him tightly- but not enough to hurt him. Hank was capable of hurting Deimos, but they never would.
“Got it…” Deimos shuddered, filled with that anxious but lovely warmth he felt when he was with Hank. His cheeks got a little warm with blush as Hank pushed themself up to nestle against his neck, their breath hot on his skin. “Enjoying yourself…?” He chuckled.
“Mhm.” Hank replied, gently pressing a kiss right beneath his lover’s jaw. Their lips were rough, but Deimos didn’t mind. It was comforting. “Tired…”
“You can sleep if you wanna…” He rested a hand on Hank’s cheek, gently stroking the scarred skin with his thumb. Hank looked peaceful. “I’ll probably sleep too, if you do… my legs are kinda going to sleep underneath you anyways. Heh.”
“Then I can’t talk to you…”
“I’ll be here when you wake up, big guy.”
Hank growled softly, taking his arms out from underneath the smaller man and using them to lift himself up and slide up until he was on all fours. They breathed heavily on Deimos’s face, and Deimos remained immobile beneath them.
“Hank…?” He said softly once Hank had been there a little while, not saying anything but just staring. Suddenly they stooped down and kissed him, leading Deimos to take his hands up to their face and place them on their cheeks. It was pleasantly warm. “I wasn’t-“ They kissed him again, briefly. “-expecting that.”
“Sorry.”
“No, it was nice.” Deimos assured with a smile, knowing that Hank was still a little new to romance. “C'mere…” He gently pulled Hank’s face closer, and pressed a tender kiss to the corner of their mouth. “I think we both need some real rest, don’t you…?”
“Mm…” Hank moved off the top of his partner, lying on his back next to him. They beckoned him to join. “Come on.”
“Okay, let me pull the blanket up, I’m freezing now.” He reached down, and pulled up the sheet so they were covered, moving about until he was lying on top of Hank.
Hank helped a little and pulled the blanket up and over Deimos, who snuggled up against him. He laid his head against his chest, hearing the slow and steady beat of his heart. Hank took a hand up and placed it on the back of Deimos’s head, gently ruffling the smaller man’s hair. There was a deep rumble, sort of like a purr, emanating from them. Happy .
“G’night Hank…” Deimos yawned, shutting his eyes as Hank gently petted his head.
“Good night.” Hank replied, sighing deeply. They wrapped their other arm around Deimos, pulling him extra close, and planting a kiss on the top of his head before lying their head down to rest.
Deimos smiled as he drifted off.
A very satisfying way to end the day.
