Summary:

He fucking hated her sometimes. Especially when she treated him more like a prop then her son.

.........

Bakugou wants to be a hero but his parents lust for fame, social media's hatred of him, and Deku keep getting in the way.

Notes:

Several of my future fics had similar premises so I decided to combine them into one story. I don't know how long this will be but with multiple plot lines to work through this may take a while. It's a challenging concept but I'm going to try it. Thanks for reading. 😁

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

“Will you just stay still!”

“I don’t want to take any more pictures!”

“For god’s sake Katsuki, just stay still for one more second!”

“No!”

“God Damnit, you fucking brat, just sit down!”

Bakugou’s relationship with his mother had always been tumultuous. They never clicked correctly into a proper mother son relationship. He was constantly butting heads with the woman. The screaming got so loud families two houses down could tell you what the Bakugou’s were fighting about.

Besides the inane things Bakugou’s mother usually yelled at him about there were two things that constantly came up in their arguments. His mother’s career and Midoriya Izuku.

It was difficult for Bakugou to remember when his relationship with Midoriya, or Deku as he liked to call him, really went wrong. To be honest he didn’t think they were ever friends. His mother and Mrs. Midoriya were school friends. The type of people who grew up in one neighborhood and stayed in that neighborhood. They grew up telling each other,

“We’ll totally live next to each other.”

“Our kids will be the best of friends!”

However, they didn’t consider the fact that you can’t force kids to like each other. It may have been fun for the two kids at first, but Bakugou and Midoriya’s personalities quickly began to clash.

“Wait for me Kacchan!”

“You’re not supposed to do that Kacchan.”

“Let me help you Kacchan!”

“Listen Kacchan!”

“Listen!”

Bakugou couldn’t remember when he began to hate Midoriya, but he sure as hell knew why he hated him now. He constantly felt under attack from two fronts. Midoriya was always behind him, he was always there questioning his decisions and following him when he didn’t want to be followed. Midoriya’s mere existence put Bakugou on edge. The sound of his voice grated against his psyche and listening to him talk filled him with uncontrollable rage. To be honest, Bakugou wonders how he went so long without beating up the kid. The first time he broke Deku’s nose—the first time he saw fear on Deku’s face—filled him with such relief. He just had to do it more. Plus, no one bothered to stop him, so how could it be wrong?

While Midoriya was constantly behind him, challenging his abilities, his mother was always in front of him. She’d like to tell Bakugou that she was pushing him to be greater, but in reality, it felt like she was trying to put him into a box. A box that wasn’t big enough or sturdy enough to hold up his ideals and ambitions.

“Stop stomping around, fucking brat!” In fact—

“You think Izuku treats his mother this way?!” The box she wanted him to fill was very Deku shaped.

“Katsuki!” Bakugou’s eyes fluttered open. He rolled onto his back with a grunt before straightening his arms above his head. “Katsuki!” Looking at his clock it was just past 8:30am. It was the last day of summer. “KATSUKI!” He would’ve thought his mom would let him sleep in one final time at least.

“What!” When he yanked open his door and screamed into the hallway, he wasn’t expecting his mother to already be there. She was about to barge into his room and the expression on her face made it clear she didn’t appreciate him screaming in her face.

She let out a huff and spoke through her teeth. “Give me your phone.” She held her hand out to him with a glare. Bakugou had to stop himself from rolling his eyes. At every little infraction or perceived slight against her, her first instinct was to take his phone away. Like he gave a damn. It’s not like he had anyone important he needed to be talking to anyway.

“The fuck did I do this time Hag.” The smack to the side of his head was swift and hard.

“For making me come up here and wake your lazy as up and for being a brat.” Once the phone was in her hands, she shoved it in her pocket and walked back towards the stairs. Before descending she turned back to Bakugou with a heavy glare.

“Get dressed. I’ll be taking photos outside in 10 minutes.”

Bakugou clenched his fists, “I told you—”

“And I don’t care what you said. The least your freeloading ass can do is help me and your father out with our business!” Mitsuki turned away and stomped down the stairs. Bakugou glared daggers as he heard her voice shouting back at him. “Don’t make me come up and get you again!”

And there it was, the other reason why they were constantly fighting. Bakugou slammed the door and stomped towards the bathroom. He took a ten-minute shower then made sure to take his time getting dressed. His mother was tapping her foot aggressively when he walked down the stairs. If he was going to do this against his will pissing her off was the least, he could do to make himself feel better.

It was hot out when they got outside. The sun burned his eyes. He could feel a headache building as his mother positioned him this way and that. When it was over, he plopped down on the couch with a scowl on his face. His mother acted none the wiser as she smiled down at her phone.

He fucking hated her sometimes.

Especially when she treated him more like a prop then her son. Getting attention for his father’s clothing line and maintaining a following for her modeling career was more important then how Bakugou felt about it. Most kids were used to getting their photos taken during milestones. However, photos of Katsuki weren’t just shoved into albums only to be taken out years later. His photos were shared. Bodily autonomy wasn’t honored in his household.

Bakugou jumped up from the couch then made his way back to his room. If he wasn’t going to sleep in today the least, he could do was be productive. He changed into a pair of gym shorts and a black tank top. He grabbed his headphones and was out the door before his mother could make him take more pictures. He passed the corner store as he jogged down the street. He remembered watching All Might on the TV there. He remembered finding a limited addition All Might card with Deku, of all people. He also remembered how a stranger approached him as he bought a soda. They called him Katsuki and asked about his father’s birthday. The person had acted so familiar with him. They’d known so much about his life and that scared him.

That was the first time Bakugou realized how much of his own life his mother had been sharing with the world and it wouldn’t be the last.
