Work Text:

He wasn’t sure what he could expect from that meeting. After all, they were done. They were supposed to be done. Yet he didn’t hesitate when he received his call or when he agreed to see him one more time. Sitting on a bench, next to a basketball court, Kuroko wondered what he was doing there.

The sky is red tonight

We're on the edge tonight

No shooting star to guide us

He looked up to the sky. The sun was starting to hide, to give his place to the moon. Soon the stars would shine over their heads. He was trying to find some sort of answer, but nothing. It was ridiculous, but they were stuck and it was time to face their faith once and for all.

Eye for an eye, why tear each other apart?

Please tell me why, why do we make it so hard?

Look at us now, we only got ourselves to blame

It's such a shame

He wanted Aomine to change, to make an effort in their relationship. But perhaps he wanted something that his boyfriend couldn’t give him. Perhaps it was time for him, Kuroko, to face the reality, even though it meant that his heart would get shattered into pieces. Because, after all, he loved Aomine.

How many times can we win and lose?

How many times can we break the rules between us?

Only teardrops

All of the sudden, he felt that someone was taking a seat next to him. He didn’t even need to turn around to know that it was Aomine. He wanted to reproach him, since he was late as usual. But the words refused to get out of his mouth, almost like they were all stuck in his throat.

Aomine sat next to him and grabbed his hand. Silence. Kuroko closed his eyes, he still didn’t know what to say. He loved those long hugs that only Aomine could give to him, they were always so warm and he always felt safe between his arms. He wondered if he would ever experience something like that ever again. Even the thought of loving someone different than Aomine sounded crazy in his mind.

How many times do we have to fight?

How many times till we get it right between us?

Only teardrops

“Tetsu”, Aomine stared at the ground.

“Aomine- kun ”, Kuroko kept looking at the stars, searching for an answer still.

“Daiki. My name is Daiki”, he said, a bit annoyed.

He didn’t get a response. To be completely honest, he wasn’t even sure what to say next. Did they reach a dead end in their relationship? Aomine hated this situation, it forced him to think more than he would like to. Yet he knew that he was on the verge of losing the person who he loved the most.

So come and face me now

Here on the stage tonight

Let's leave the past behind us

Aomine stood up and walked a couple of steps, before turning around to face Kuroko. What was he supposed to do without him? He frowned. Sure, he made a lot of mistakes during their relationship, but nobody was perfect, right? Right?

“Tetsu, look at me”, he demanded.

Kuroko shook his head and then focused on his boyfriend. He still loved him. He still held their precious memories as a treasure in his mind. He could remember every single firsts that they had shared.

“Do you still love me?”

“Aomine-kun”, Kuroko took a couple of minutes to reply. It was hard, because despite everything, his heart was still beating hard every time he saw Aomine, “I do”.

Aomine cracked a smile, “I love you too, Tetsu. Then why does it feel that this is over?”

“Because it is”, Kuroko said. Aomine kept disappointing him time and time again, and there was just so much he could handle. Perhaps they could get another chance later on, but Aomine needed to grow up first.

“Damn it”, Aomine wished his answer was different. He was hoping that he could talk him out, for another chance. But he realized that Kuroko was completely set on ending things. He considered even pleading with him, but maybe it was just too late for them.

“I’m sorry, Aomine-kun”, Kuroko said. He thought that if he saw him one last time, he could change his opinion. But he remembered all those times where Aomine didn’t just show up all on pure laziness or when he simply didn’t answer his phone. He was still hurt.

Aomine sat down again. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

“I love you, Tetsu”, he said again, with tears falling down his face. If he only had done things differently…

“I’ll miss you”, Kuroko said before leaving. He needed to get away as fast as he could, before he regretted his decision. His eyes were full of tears, yet he was sure of his decision. Then, why it was so painful?
