Angela called in favours with Tim as a Godfather on a semi regular basis, Wesley did too. He was closer and more open with his schedule than the Godmother, a cousin of Wesley’s out in Long Beach. So when Wesley had to go to a prison outside county limits and Angela was giving key testimonials in court, Tim and Lucy were playing house with little Jack.
Tamara was visiting from university for spring break, and the weather was perfect for picnics in the park. So it’s no surprise that Jack wanted to run around the jungle gym nearby with all of them. When it came time for the swings, Tamara became the favourite when she declared him too big for the baby swing.
“Look Uncle Tim! Tamara is pushing me so high on the big boy swing.” Jack was calling out at the height of his forward push.
“You’re flying bud!” Tim called back.
“It’s so cute how he wants to impress you. He wants to be as strong as Daddy and Uncle Tim.”
The food was coming out across the giant blanket Lucy had insisted on, “I’m not spoiling our food with ants and spiders Tim. I’m at least going to make it a little cleaner.”
“I mean it's a pretty good measuring stick.” Tim grinned, bright at the pride of being looked up to by such an amazing kid, he loved the little dude.
The dual smash of playground rocks wasn’t too high on their radar but the combination of Tamara’s cut off exclamation and Mario’s panicked cry was.
Heads whipping in synchronicity, already sprouting off the ground from their sitting positions Tim and Lucy were on the move. Even if Kojo had them beat on speed.
The bit of blood on Jack's chin was visible two steps in, “I’ll get the first aid kit from the truck,” and Lucy was off at a run, barely caring about her skirt flapping behind her.
“Hey bud, what happened?” Tim had a hand cupping Jack’s head and another on Tamara’s shoulder. Kojo kept sniffing between them, whimpering.
“I...I…” Jack was starting to drip with tears, Kojo kept tapping his nose against each one as they slid down his face.
A gasp from Tamara got Tim looking her way, “We had a little accident, I was too close to the swing and I got the wind knocked out of me by our little wrecking ball here.”
She was saying it all with a smile, rubbing Jack’s arm.
“Okay, we are gonna get you cleaned up and then we can take a break and eat some lunch. How’s that sound?” Tim addressed Jack.
“It needs a kiss, it won’t get better without a magic kiss before the bandaid.” Jack sniffled.
“Okay then you’ll get a kiss before the bandaid goes on. And it won’t just be from Kojo either”
“But Aunty Lucy is the one with the magic kisses!” Suddenly Jack was very invigorated, forgetting about his pain but very worried that things wouldn’t be done right.
“Oh, I am?” Lucy asks, smiling small and soft. She picked up the toddler, “Let's get you all on the blanket and we’ll check it all out.”
“You have to kiss it better, Aunt Lucy! Mama always does and there’s a kissy mark between the ouchie and the bandaid. Daddy’s don’t get the same mark so Uncle Tim’s won’t either”
“Kissy mark? I won’t leave enough of a kissy mark?” Tim teased, helping Tamara up and out of the dusty gravel.
Everyone gets dusted off, wiped down with antibacterial cloths from the kit and food in their hands pretty quickly.
And yes, Lucy leaves a chapstick kissy mark between Jack’s scraped skin and the Paw Patrol bandaid she had layered around the edge of his chin.
It was only in the car back home from dropping him off with Wesley that it got brought up again.
“We are so fixing that ‘only Lucy can make it better’ thing with our next kid.” Tim said as he pulled back from the Evers house.
“Kid?” “Next? Kid?” Lucy and Tamara seemed to have different emphases on their questions.
Lucy’s devious smile grew and she started poking Tim’s arm and ribs, “You wanna have kids with me?”
“More importantly, you are already claiming to share a kid with Lucy?” Tamara butted her head through the space between them from the back seat.
“Well yeah, we’ve got you and Kojo. I figure when we’re ready we’ll have another. Lucy’s too mushy to not do the mothering thing and I don’t dislike kids, it’s just some adults that are stupid.”
Both women giggled and gushed about how soft “Officer All-Bark” had gotten.
“Just so you know, I’d love to have more kids with you.” Lucy said into his ear before leaving another chapstick kiss mark on her favourite boy, just so long as Jack didn’t learn that it wasn’t him.
