The absolute irony of their song choice was not lost of the boys, especially Anthony who was stood just shaking his head at Colin “Col, you’re mental. This is absolutely ridiculous” he said to his younger brother.
“I’m with Ant on this one Col” Benedict said with an amused chuckle.
“Can you two just show some faith in me please. Trust me, if this doesn’t drive the girls mad, I will personally get up at the next Sunday dinner and sing an embarrassing song of your choice” Colin said with a wicked grin on his face. “I sung this in the radio in the car with Pen a week ago and trust me… it was mind blowing” he smirked
Anthony and Benedict both sighed “Fine. but we will make you pay if this backfires” Anthony said. He wasn’t as sure as Colin about Kate’s reaction about this, yes Kate loved it when he sung in the house but this… this was just nuts..
Benedict shrugged “whatever. Can we just get this over with please” he said with reluctance to his voice. He hated doing stuff that attracted attention and why he let Colin drag them into a karaoke bar, after the three of them went on a triple date… he had hoped to watch the girls singing, but nooooo Colin wanted to do something for the girls and whilst he didn’t think Sophie would take the piss, he wasn’t so sure about the other two.
Colin had every faith this would work. What better way to Bridgerton triple date night by blasting this out, the irony would just be perfect. Anthony ordered a round of drinks, getting him and Benedict a whiskey as he knew they would need it, he had the barman send the drinks to the girls as they waited at the side of the bar to go get this over with.
Benedict and Anthony downed their whiskey like it was tequila, shot Colin an annoyed look and climbed onto the stage after their brother who practically skipped onto the stage.
“Good evening ladies and gentleman” Colin grinned in his usual charming way, there was a wolf whistle from the crowd, Anthony and Benedict looked over at the girls, Kate had her fingers in her mouth whistling at them and Anthony felt his cheeks go red, what on earth was he thinking, He was 31 years old for goodness sake…
Benedict couldn’t help but grin back at Sophie who was beaming up at him and Penelope was just laughing.
“We are Anthony, Benedict and Colin” he grinned pointing to each of them as he introduced them to the crowd who roared, another whistle from Kate who now had her phone in her other hand, Anthony wanted the ground to swallow him whole.
“And we would like to dedicate this song to the incredible, beautiful and infinitely, far too good for us, women in our lives… Kate, Anthony’s fiancée,” he said pointing at Kate, “Sophie, Benedict’s new fiancée as of like… two weeks ago…” he said pointing at Sophie who just turned bright red “and my own wonderful and beautiful girlfriend Pen” he grinned.
“We love you ladies” he grinned as he turned to the Karaoke master and said “hit it”
Kate and Sophie smirked at each other as they saw how uncomfortable Benedict and Anthony were as the first chords of the song rang out and they watched their fiancée take a deep breath and swing down the last of their drinks.
They liked to pretend they hated this, but they did rather like singing as brother’s, they had done it as kids and they were rather good as a trio, and as the Whiskey burned giving them confidence, the three raised the microphones to their lips, each finding the eyes of their respective partner
“ ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh, ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh,” they started and Kate actually squealed, Penelepe burst out laughing and Sophie covered her mouth to hide her giggles.
The three of them had sung this before and they were off, rewinding the years to being 16, 14 and 9 dancing around the living room for their mother in their matching double denim outfits. Things that they did for their mother’s birthdays…
But it was Anthony who started them off “ Uptown girl, She's been living in her uptown world, I bet she never had a back street guy, I bet her mama never told her why ”
Benedict unable to keep his eyes of Sophie picked up the next lines “ I'm gonna try for an uptown girl, She's been living in her white bread world, As long as anyone with hot blood can, And now she's looking for a downtown man, That's what I am ”
Colin trying to encourage his brother’s to move around the little stage, as he was only 9 at the time and couldn’t really remember too much he only ever got little parts of this song but he still managed to belt out “And when she knows what she wants from her time, And when she wakes up and makes up her mind ”
And the three of them, now getting into their stride, sung the chorus together at full belt, Sophie and Penelope were both stood on their chairs now dancing along, Kate was whistling in an unladylike manner as she was jumping around dancing.
“She'll see I'm not so tough
Just because
I'm in love with an uptown girl
You know I've seen her in her uptown world
She's getting tired of her high class toys
And all her presents from her uptown boys
She's got a choice
Oh, oh”
They were now really into it, the room watching them, but they only had eyes for their girls, who were clearly loving it.
Anthony and Benedict picked up the next verse together smirking, at the absolute irony at the words “Uptown girl, You know I can't afford to buy her pearls, But maybe someday when my ship comes in, She'll understand what kind of guy I've been, And then I'll win”
Kate and Sophie were giggling and singing along in their seats as Colin sung “ And when she's walking she's looking so fine, And when she's talking she's saying that she's mine”
Penelope was dancing in her seat, all three of the girls laughing at their idiot partners but loving the show, loving the song and loving them even harder than they had before they walked in. they looked ridiculous, and Kate was filming the entire thing but all three girls would remember this night as the three boys then sung the chorus and end of the song
“ She'll say I'm not so tough
Just because
I'm in love
With and uptown girl
She's been living in her white bread world
As long as anyone with hot blood can
And now she's looking for a downtown man
That's what I am
Uptown girl
She's my uptown girl
You know I'm in love with an uptown girl
My uptown girl
You know I'm in love with an uptown girl
She's my uptown girl
You know I'm in love with an uptown girl
My uptown girl
You know I'm in love with an uptown girl
She's my uptown girl
You know I'm in love with an uptown girl”
As they sung the last lines, cheers rang out from the entire bar, but the cheer from their ladies was the highlight and the loudest, Kate’s whistled rang through the bar as the three men, made their way back over to their women like the cats that got the cream as their girls all greeted them with kisses and smirks.
Sophie was the first one to whisper something into Benedict’s ear, with him getting up rather quickly grinning at everyone with a “we’re going home, see you later” and they ran from the bar giggling like a pair of school children.
Kate smirked at Anthony as she let her hand trail up his thigh “shall we head off?” she smirked as she cupped him through his jeans, causing him to choke on his drink but he nodded, smirked at his brother who grinned back.
Penelope and Colin left in the taxi behind them.
The following morning Colin woke up to a few messages in the ABC Chat
B: Col… you are a genius. Best night ever. 👌🏻
A: Bro… i owe you a bottle of whiskey... 😂
B: Sophie’s promised you some scones… but she’s not making them today.🤪😈
C: Oh ye of little faith… I told you… 🥵 they go mad for it… maybe next time we go Jonas Bros or you show the girls your PJ and Duncan routine 😂😂😂😂
