Work Text:

“Never knew I could feel like this”

Loki never believed that he was worthy of being loved, least not in the way it ever seemed to truly matter. They didn’t mind getting in bed with whoever showed interest, loved being adored and showered with compliments. But when the morning came, she was always alone. Alone and feeling used, second-best, never enough to stay the night. Until Mobius came into his life and looked at him with kind, loving eyes.

“Every day I love you more and more”

Mobius had seen love bloom on the sacred timeline, saw how it can change people, and he couldn’t help but feel a tinge of jealousy. There was no time for love when working for the timekeepers. That would certainly cause a branch in the sacred timeline. Completely oblivious to the small flutter in his chest when he met Loki.

“Listen to my heart, can’t you hear it sings”

It began with soft glances, a gentle pat on the shoulder, palms brushing as they walked side by side.

A metaphor and a ruined salad, journeys to apocalypses, and long nights in the archives.

Laughter filling the cafeteria, eyes glistening with joy, oblivious to the world around them.

“We’re the only ones who are actually free.”

Walks back to their shared living quarters, leaning on each other after a hard day in the field.

Loki sleepily describing the gardens of Asgard as Mobius sat beside her on the living room floor. Forgotten TVA files spread around them. Eyes flickering to one another’s lips between glances, both too scared to shatter the fragile unspoken thing growing between them.

It continues on like that; Mobius cooking breakfast, protecting each other on the field, lunches together at the table, conversations about anything other than the weight in their chests growing heavier with each passing day. At the end of the day, they’ll walk side by side to their living quarters.

Jealousy and betrayal, bickering like a married couple when Loki is captured with the variant. Saved from a dying planet. Why had they ran off? Was Mobius not enough? Was he wrong to have believed he could change Loki? “You’re all variants!” She had shouted, how could he believe him?

A risk. A stolen TemPad. What was he expecting to find? His heart sank as he watched the footage of C-20 and Ravonna. A spark turned into a fire, he had something and someone to fight for now.

“You can be whoever, whatever you wanna be, even someone good.”

“Seasons may change, winter to spring”

Life after the TVA took some getting used to, Mobius decided to settle down along the coast near Oregon. A quiet cabin in the redwoods, a welcoming change from the constant movement of the TVA. There was something comforting coming home to the cabin surrounded in the lush green scenery, the cold morning air that nipped at his cheeks that reminded him of an embrace shared on a grassy hill not too long ago.

After ensuring everyone at the TVA had a life to return to, it didn’t take long for Loki to find himself on the porch of a cabin. Heart pounding in their chest, what if he had moved on? What if they misread all the signs? What if they were too late? Before they could knock on the door, it swung open to reveal the shorter, grey-haired man. “You came back.”

“Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place”

Coffee untouched as the world disappeared around them, both lost in conversation. Mobius loved hearing Loki talk about their adventures across timelines, how Casey was a fisherman in a past life. He loved the way Loki talked with his hands, animated, excited, happy. He would be lying if he hadn’t noticed the way Loki looked at him with such admiration, hanging onto every word about his quiet life there on the coast. Neither of them had noticed when their hands became entwined on the table until the conversation slowly dwindled down.

Perhaps it wasn’t too late for them to be together.

“Mobius, all those times back at the TVA… I thought that was-”

“An act? No, no I-” Mobius looked up from their tangled hands to meet the eyes of the person he loved, “I have seen you change, grow into someone beautiful. Someone who puts others before themselves, someone who is worthy.” Tell her.

“Loki, I love you. I understand if you aren’t there yet or if you don’t feel the same, but I just thought you should know.”

Mobius glanced down at their hands, feeling exposed like a nerve. There was no going back now.

“Mobius, I have lived for thousands of years and have seen countless timelines. I have seen what love does to people, what it has done to me. I came back because I realized life is meaningless without someone at your side. I came back because that someone is you. I love you, Mobius.”

“Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste”

It wasn’t long for them to fall back into their routine; loving glances, cooking together in their kitchen, kissing as they cuddled on the couch, clothes abandoned in a trail to the bedroom. Slow dancing on the beach, laughter and music filling their home. Oblivious to the world around them. They had eternity to spend together, come what may.
