Prompt: Day 2 – “Possessive”
When Tohru woke up that morning she didn’t realize what she would be up against as the day progressed. Now that she and Kyo had come out to their school as an official couple it seemed that the girls were even more vicious than they had been towards her in the past.
On their walk to school she noticed that the girls from school would keep staring at them and whispering. She knew that her fears were unfounded and they could be talking about something else, but she still couldn’t help but wonder. She started to walk more slowly and Kyo noticed.
“Is everything okay?” He asked as he stopped and turned towards her.
“Yes. Everything’s fine.” She smiled her fake smile like she did when she was hiding something. He immediately picked up on it, but decided to let it go.
They continued their walk to school. “What are you doing for the project we have coming up?” He asked her, trying to get her mind off of whatever was bothering her.
“I think Uo and Hana are going to meet me at the house to work on the project together this weekend. We have to write a paper in English about global warming.” She paused, then continued. “What about you?”
“I think we are doing something similar. Ours is about the current state of the ozone layer.” He held her hand and squeezed it softly. They chatted all the way to school. Once they got to school Tohru found her friends and they went off on their way.
“Tohru.” Hana started. “Your waves seem distressed. What’s wrong?” She started to massage Tohru’s temples as she sat in the chair in their classroom.
“I’m fine.” She lied. “I’ve just got a lot on my mind.”
“You need me to break someone for you?” Uo chimed in. “If someone’s messing with you I’ll kill them.” She got out her steel pipe and slung it over her shoulder.
Uo took a moment then continued, “It’s not Carrots is it? If he’s not treating you right I’ll make sure he pays.”
Tohru waved her hands. “No. No. Everything is fine with Kyo.” Tohru looked down and fidgeted with her hands, unable to look Uo in the eyes now. “I just have been feeling strange lately when other girls look at him. And, I don’t understand why.”
Uo and Hana both broke out laughing.
Tohru didn’t realize what was so funny.
Once they stopped crying and had a chance to compose themselves, they both looked to Tohru. “You’re feeling possessive of him?” Uo asked. “I never thought I’d see the day.” She hugged Tohru’s head in her arms. “You’re so adorable sometimes, Tohru.”
“Possessive?” Tohru asked. “I don’t know… maybe. Though, I never considered myself a clingy person.”
Both Uo and Hana had to agree with that sentiment. Tohru never had been a very clingy person. She always put others feelings before her own, she never had the opportunity to be possessive of anything. The old Tohru would step aside and let Kyo be taken away by some random girl. However, this wasn’t the old Tohru, and they both had to acknowledge that.
“You’ll be okay. He loves you. There’s no way he’s going to let some random girl take him away.” Uo said, then paused. “Remember when we were at the school trip? He denied that one chick.”
Tohru remembered that girl. She was a part of his ‘fan club’. However, she always thought that he had rejected her because of the fact that he would be confined in a cage once he graduated. She’d never considered the fact that perhaps he did it for her.
Once lunch time rolled around she met with Kyo at their usual spot under a tree on the school grounds. Often they would be joined by Yuki, Uo and Hana, but today it was just the two of them. She liked that. She seldom got time with just the two of them alone.
During their meal, a girl walked over and asked Kyo if she could speak to him in private. “Go away.” He waved his hand. “Not interested.”
Tohru did her best to ignore it and Kyo didn’t give in to her advances and knew what she was doing. However, the girl kept pushing the issue.
“Please. It will just take a moment.” The girl begged.
At this Tohru did something out of character for her and stood up. “Go away.” She pushed the girl and she fell to the ground.
Tohru shocked at what she had done immediately apologized in true ‘Tohru’ fashion. “I’m sorry. Please leave us.”
Kyo looked on in shock from the ground. Not quite believing what had just transpired.
The girl got up with as much dignity as she could and started to leave. “That’s a really nice girlfriend you have there.” She said in a snarky fashion, then left.
Once the girl was out of sight, Kyo stood up and looked at Tohru. “Are you okay?” He asked. He ran his arms along her body looking for anything that might be wrong with her physically.
Tohru started to bawl her eyes out, mostly out of embarrassment for what she had done. “I’m so sorry, Kyo.” She continued sobbing.
“You have nothing to apologize for.” He started. “You have nothing to worry about, though. I love you.” He pulled her close. “It’s an annoyance for now, that’s all. Soon we’ll be moving away, right?”
She started to regain some of her composure. She was looking into the chest of his school jacket and holding onto the hem of it with her hands. “I don’t want anyone to take you away from me.” She rubbed her face into the side of him.
Kyo blushed at her confession but quickly regained himself. “No one will. I love you. Please have faith in me.” Part of him couldn’t believe that she was capable of feelings like this as she rarely showed any negative emotions. Though, he knew that most of that was an act that she had been playing for so long. “Talk to me when you feel like this.”
He knew all to well of her innate fears regarding being abandoned as she had been so many times before. He would do all in his power to make sure that she would overcome these fears. There was nothing that could possibly take him away from her. He would stay with her for as long as she would allow him to.
