What's stopping you?

Summary:

Khari Yagi.
The national pop star who rose to fame at the age of twelve, but is that really all she is? Just a star? After helping the LOV make their way as the group who ambushed Class 1-A at the USJ incident, she gets found out as an accomplice.

But with her past stopping her from wanting to be a pro-hero, her feeling more comfortableness with the League, and her father, who let her mother be killed who now teaches at the same school she is now forced to attend, to keep her affiliations a secret, she must play by the rules. Then again, being one of the few black people in Japan, makes it all the more harder on her.

''What's stopping you?!''

Chapter Text

''THE DAY HAS COME!''

I sang out the last few words of our song, mic in my hand and raised high, as the concert amphitheatre was dead silent.

The sea of dark, imperceptible bodies, stopped moving, almost like stilled statues. They probably would have been, except for the occasional twitch of bodies that betrayed that. The colourful lights bouncing off the thousands, if not millions of people here not lessening the tense atmosphere.

I could feel the heat and exhaustion radiating off my two bandmates, a few feet behind me. They were just as tired, if not more so than I was after that gruelling and long 2-hour concert we were doing was about to be finished.

I brought back my attention to the fans in front of me.

Maybe this was a fail. I'm gonna have a chat with that manager later.

Just when I was thinking this was a major bust and waste of time, a thunderous roar erupted from the crowd, making my head snap up, and my smile returned. Only a thousand times brighter, and wider than before as the crowd hooted and clapped for us. Confetti exploded over our heads and all around the hall, as I felt two familiar presences at my back. A tan arm coming into view went around my shoulders and I also felt another warm palm on my head sitting there.

I relished in their comfort before shaking free from them and finally addressing the crowd,

''Thank you all for coming out tonight and supporting our band! And from us, ''Earth, Wind n' Fire'' have a good night everybody!''

They erupted in cheers once again as I grabbed my two partners' hands, and headed for the stairs leading backstage. The minute we got back into our shared dressing room, the smile slipped easily off my face and turned into a frown as I slouched in my dressing chair and laid my head back.

The second I closed my eyes to grab some sleep, I heard a pair of feet stop in front of me.

''You're already sleeping. Khari, at least let out your hair and take off your makeup. You know Mai will get angry.''

I jarred my eyes open and looked at the figure towering over me, Michaelis or as I like to call him, Michael.

Still, in his stage outfit, he looked pretty hot.

He wore a grey turtleneck, with a short-cut black leather jacket and ripped jeans. His hair had faded on the sides and his dreads were pulled back into a low ponytail, with a few strands framing the front of his face. His ear and nose piercings shined in the light from the vanity in front of me as his golden-brown eyes stared at me waiting for a reaction.

''If I get up and change, will you leave me alone? '' I grumbled.

''If your bad attitude leaves me alone, sure'' he smirked and left to his station.

I sighed before getting up and trudging out of the room and down the hall to the bathroom, to get Ayato to help me. I hated removing my makeup so he did it for me, while I did his own since it was less than mine. It became a sort of tradition between us for the two years we've been in this band together.

I knocked on the bathroom, and he came out a few seconds later with a white towel on his head.

His black hair was wet as he had just taken a shower to wash off all the sweat from dancing and singing on stage for hours. He wore a red sweater and black workout pants. But the thing that got me every time is how he looked so much like Levi from AOB.

(Name the anime, wrong answers only ;) )

Drying his hair he finally spoke, ''What's up, Khari? I know you don't like using these bathrooms.''

''You left me in a room with that ass, and you forgot to help me with my makeup you idiot,'' I complained huffing and crossing my arms.

He let out a small smile as his eyes softened from their usual stoic expression. He grabs my right arm and pulls me into the bathroom. When I was seated on the toilet seat, he grabbed both my hands and crouched in front of me.

''Sorry Ri, you looked really tired and I remember you saying that he called you before the show  for the plan you concocted for their first heist,

I looked down at our entwined hands and softly squeezed them.

''But now that you're here,'' he wrapped his arms around my waist and lifted me unto the bathroom counter near the sink, ''I'll do it for you now if you want?''

I blushed. But thank the Lord for my mother, being black and passing those genes to me, I didn't have to worry about him noticing as all it looked like on my face was a big smile. I nodded my head at him as he slipped through the doors to get wipes among other things.

I turned to stare at myself through the mirror to see if I looked bad from being on stage for so long but I was fine. My black hair was still tied up in two buns with my white streaks of hair were tucked in as well, my sideburns laid by the sides of my face done by my stylist earlier in the day. My grey eyes roamed across my body and looked at my black tank top with a small rose on it that stopped just above my belly button, and a dark maroon red skirt that was styled with a thick belt.

I got to say, she does know how to pick clothes when she's not flustered by Michaelis.

I chuckled as Ayato finally came through the door with the wipes. After we finished, we headed back to the room to see Michael and Mai arguing.

I heard Ayato beside me sigh before he walked up to them and whispered into her ear, leading her away.

Thank you, I mouthed.

He smiled at me before disappearing out of the room. My expression immediately turned solemn as Michael came closer.

''Dabi called while both of you were in the washroom'' he reported, turning around.

''Did he say anything about Shiggy?'' I inquired, striding further into the room and changing my previous outfit to a dark crop top and sweats. I pulled my hair out of its bun and let it go.

''No, he just reminded me about the mission and for us to meet at the hideout at exactly nine pm for the operation to begin'' he replied putting on his hood and gloves.

''Well we better get going I don't want to face an angry man baby'' I admitted, chuckling.

I grabbed my mask and we left out the back door. The moon was covered tonight by the clouds as we left the hall.

''I guess it's just another one of those nights'' I muttered to myself as I pulled my hood up tighter and lifted my mask to my face, disappearing into the alleys. To meet with what will soon become the League Of Villains.
