Chapter Text
『𝓭𝓪𝓲𝓼𝔂』
❝new beginnings❞
❀
"Oi, Y/N! Where're my socks?"
"Y/N! Have ya seen my jersey?"
Sighing, Y/N hands over their clothes and shoots them a glare.
"Ya two need ta find them on yer own! I ain't yer maid, dumbasses!"
Being the menaces her cousins are, Miya Atsumu and Miya Osamu, they just shrugged, pretending they didn't hear her. Y/N sighs for the second time and reaches for your shoes, wears them and calls out to her aunt.
"We're leaving!"
"Bye, Mom!"
Her aunt, Miya Yuriko, looks at Y/N and waves, suds still on her hands. The three of them always walk to school and every single time, Y/N has to deal with the twins' silly rivalry, competing over who could reach the gates faster. They once asked if she wanted to join, only to be met with a gaze saying 'are-you-idiots-you're-not-in-grade-school-anymore', thus they never dared to ask Y/N again, afraid they're gonna see her belittling look.
"Bet I can beat ya again 'Samu!"
"Fat chance 'Tsumu. Ya cheated yesterday."
"Ain't my fault ya got distracted by an onigiri, glutton."
"Shut up, shithead."
And just like that, they start bickering. For the third time, Y/N sighs, exasperated with the twins' antics.
"Whatever. I'm goin' ahead," Y/N starts walking faster, ignoring her cousins' pleas and heavy footsteps behind her. She shakes her head, thinking it's too early to deal with their bullshit.
'I ain't paid fer this shit.'
The trio arrive at the school gate; Atsumu getting excited, Osamu biting on his onigiri (Y/N doesn't know where the hell he got it from but she shrugged it off, unwilling to waste her brain cells on finding out how he magically whipped one), and Y/N with an exhausted look on her face. Suna sees them and lazily waves, in which Y/N and Osamu did the same but Atsumu didn't seem to understand the assignment.
"Sunarin~!" He yells and tries to lock Suna in a hug, but the latter evades him, making Atsumu lose balance and lie face flat on the ground.
"Sigh. What a way ta start the year," Y/N facepalmed as Osamu and Suna snickered. When Atsumu seems to regain the last bit of his dignity, he turns to Y/N, eyeing her with those disgusting (according to Osamu and Suna) puppy eyes of his.
"Y/N! Ya didn't even help me!" He huffs and tries to act cute (in which he failed, for she is immune). Y/N walks over and helps him dust his clothes.
"Yer the oldest 'n yet ya act like ya ain't," She gets a lint roller from your bag and starts removing dirt and dust from Atsumu's clothes.
"Told ya he regresses five years."
"I thought that only applies when he's playing volleyball?"
"Nah. This jus' proves that."
Suna grins and Osamu looks smug, proud as if he just solved one of the world's mysteries. Atsumu glares at both of them.
"Alright. Let's go ta class. Y'all are makin' me late," They all walk to their respective classes, only after making promises that Y/N will eat lunch with them.
❀
"So Y/N-chan... when will ya eat lunch with us?" Y/N whipped her head to look at one of her friends, Umemoto Yuki, shooting her a questioning look.
"What do ya mean? I always invite both of ya ta eat with us," Rin, another one of your friends, shakes her head and Yuki huffs her cheeks.
"Yuki meant the three of us. Excluding your cousins and Suna," Y/N makes a knowing face and then an apologetic look at her friends.
"I'll make it up ta ya. Let's go ta that café y'all wanted ta go after school," Yuki's face lights up upon hearing about food. Rin lightly smiles, nodding her head as Y/N smiles back.
Once the bell rang, classes resumed. Y/N's math teacher walks in and she scans her classmates' faces, seeing clear agony for the subject and pure hate for the teacher.
"Alright. Get yer textbooks and study pages 5 through 30 fer 15 minutes. We'll have a quiz after that," Now, all of them groaned. This isn't unexpected but the whole class shares the same sentiment (hate and loathing) for this math teacher, he always does this and it's only the first day!
Dejected, Y/N reluctantly opened her textbook, but not without glaring at her math teacher, in which her classmates did too.
❀
"And this marks the end of our discussion," Just like that the bell rang, and Y/N's classmates began chattering, gossiping about how much of a demon their math teacher was. She starts arranging her belongings when her phone pings.
<1 new message from 'Samu😌>
Y/N unlocks her phone and reads the message.
<'Samu 😌 >
Oi where are ya
I'm in my class
Why?
As she finishes sending a response, she goes back to arranging her stuff.
"Y/N-chan~" Y/N glances at the doorway and sees her friends along with, surprisingly, her cousins and Suna. Her eyebrows crease, confused as to why they were together. Not that Y/N's friends disliked the company of her relatives, rather they enjoy it; Yuki and Osamu are food buddies (if that's a thing) and Rin has this crush on Atsumu, but they don't hang out much.
"Hurry up, slowpoke!" Y/N rolled her eyes and gave her loud cousin a look, distinctly saying how hypocritical his statement was. She slings her bag onto her shoulder and walks over to the group.
"I can't go ta yer practice today. I'm going out with Yuki and Rin," Y/N turns to Osamu and he nods.
"Text me when yer done. I'll pick ya up," Y/N scoffs at Osamu as he ruffles your hair, breaking into a slight smirk. She slaps his hand and her face contorts into a scowl, annoyed at how he still treats her like a kid, disregarding that she's more mature compared to her cousins.
"Ya don't need to. I ain't a kid anymore."
Atsumu sneers at Y/N's words. "Yer the baby of the family, ya can't escape from yer fate!" Irked, she whacked his head, showing that scornful stare that gives him the chills.
"Ya better run ta Shin-chan or I'll make sure ya can't practice fer a week," Atsumu makes a whining sound, similar to when a puppy gets kicked.
He attempts to coax his cousin, despite knowing it was futile. Atsumu knows he can only dream of appeasing Y/N's anger, not without a peace offering. Sighing at his twin's antics, Osamu dragged Atsumu by his collar, the latter trying to free himself but Y/N shot him a disapproving look. Atsumu looks crestfallen, he could only let his twin drag him on the way to practice with Suna following behind them, snickering as he videotapes the whole scene..
'Good lord. I'm aging faster 'cause of them, 'specially 'Tsumu.'
Y/N turns to her friends and smiles at them, feeling sorry for her cousin's behalf. Yuki dismisses her apology with a wave while Rin struggles to suppress a grin, her cheeks were pinkish.
'Ah, Rin's malfunctioning...'
"Let's just go," Rin spoke after composing herself, deeming it unnatural to fuss over something so stupid, although she definitely thought Atsumu was cute.
The three head over to a newly opened café near the station, Leaf & Bean. As they entered, the strong aroma of ground coffee beans greets them, along with hushed chatters and lush green plant pots near the entryway. A waitress greets the three, ushering them to find a comfortable seat as Yuki shuffles to the dessert stand, peering at the array of sweets on display.
Once Y/N and Rin settle on a table, the waitress returns with two menus in hand. The former both thank her and start flipping through the menu; the waitress clicks her pen and smiles.
"Are ya both ready ta order?" As soon as she asks, Yuki appears out of nowhere and starts reciting her tall order of desserts and an iced americano. Rin and Y/N gave theirs after Yuki, the waitress then confirmed their orders before walking away.
The trio casually chat about school and their romantic endeavors, mostly Y/N ranting about their math teacher and Yuki teasing Rin about her oh-so-secret crush on the loud-mouthed Atsumu.
"Why'd ya even like that jerk? He's clearly yer polar opposite," Y/N squints at her friend, not bothering to hide her evident confusion. The corners of Rin's lips quirk, her cheeks flush pink as she turns her head away from her friend's gaze.
"You're right, we're polar opposites. That's also the reason why I'm attracted to him," Her statement made Y/N's brow perk up, hinting at Rin to continue her explanation.
"People are somewhat afraid of me because I look... mean or something. Throughout the years, I've lost confidence and became a bit insecure," Rin pauses to sip on her drink. "But Atsumu... despite others calling him an asshole, he still shines and excels in what he does."
"So... yer attracted ta him 'cause he's something ya aspire ta be?" Rin lowers her head and nods, ever so slightly. "You know how people say a crush is just another term for admiration, mine is similar to that."
Y/N huffs and gives her friend a knowing look. "Ya better not let yerself fall deeper. My cousin is... nevermind. I shouldn't be tellin' ya that," Rin has a curious look on her face but she remains silent, she respects other people's privacy, especially Atsumu's.
After they finished, they called for the same waitress and paid. The three of them walk toward the station, Rin splitting from them since her way home is different from the others.
"Ahh~ We should visit that café again next time!" Yuki beams, gripping her bag with a dreamy expression. Y/N chuckles at her friend, agreeing while they board the train.
The ride home was uneventful, the two slumped in their seats, seemingly content with their little trip. When it was Y/N's stop, she bid goodbye to Yuki, who's a bit distracted because of a ramen ad. As soon as Y/N got off the station and swiped her card, she saw Suna in the corner, leaning on a pillar while scrolling through his phone.
Y/N calls out to him. "Yo, Sunarin. Whatcha doin' here?" Suna lifts his gaze and looks at her with his signature deadpan expression.
"I'm here to pick you up," Y/N's eyebrows knit, contemplating as to what reason Suna has to do this.
'I don't think I owe him anythin'?'
Suna notices her look and shakes his head. "I lost a game of poker. This is my punishment, as per the twins," His words clear her thoughts, she turns to him with an understanding look, then her gaze quickly turns sharp and scrutinizing.
"Why the hell would ya make this a punishment?" Suna shrugged, as if he could care less what's going on with the twins' minds. Y/N facepalms, she could already guess it was Atsumu's idea, his consequences always border stupidity and ingenuity.
"Whatever. Let's jus' go home, I'm tired of all that eating," The boy just nods and follows you out the station.
Whenever you two are alone, silence translates to an unspeakable tranquility and understanding between you. Both enjoy the little background noises, the sound of cicadas and the crunch of dried leaves beneath your feet. It feels like the world has finally found its peace.
"Oh. We're already here," You look to your left and see your house. You didn't even notice you've arrived.
"Mhm, thanks fer walkin' me 'ere Sunarin. Take care," He pats your head and in turn, you lightly smile at him. You wave at him as you enter your house, in which he also returns.
"I'm home!"
