Chapter Text
Wonwoo read the message again, not that it would change anything.
'Sorry about this Wonwoo but I can't make it tonight. My cat got sick '
Wonwoo sighed before typing out a reply.
He was ruined. He checked the message below that his mother had sent an hour ago. He had confirmed that he would bring his date tonight who he had been seeing for two years. If only he hadn't sent it.
Wonwoo went through his contacts again but he had already asked everyone he could ask of.
He put his phone down and poured himself a glass of wine. He still had three hours to find himself a date and bring them home for the Christmas eve party that his parents threw every year.
He picked up his phone again. There was a new message from Dokyeom.
'Hyung, Should I buy a gift for your girlfriend too ? '
He typed out a reply and deleted it several times. He finally called Dokyeom, who was the one person he hadn't thought to ask for help.
Dokyeom picked up on the first ring.
"Hyung, What should I buy for your girlfriend? I'm at the mall" Dokyeom asked immediately.
"Dokyeom, I need a favor "
"What is it, hyung?"
"I need a date for tonight. Can you find someone to pretend, just for a few hours?" Wonwoo asked, desperate.
"Is your girlfriend not coming?" Dokyeom asked and Wonwoo heard a gasp followed by, " Did you two break up ?"
"Okay. Listen carefully. I'm going to tell you some things that I need you to keep a secret. You can't tell anyone, even Shua. "
"What's wrong? I will keep it a secret. Just tell me what's going on, hyung." Dokyeom sounded worried. Wonwoo couldn't believe he was explaining all this to brother's boyfriend.
"I lied. I'm not seeing anyone. I asked a friend of mine to help me get my parents off my back. Something came up and my friend can't make it tonight. I need your help." Wonwoo paused to make sure Dokyeom was still with him.
"Why not just say that your partner's parents got sick and they couldn't attend. "
"I said that for mom's birthday party. "
"Work emergency?"
"Last Christmas."
"Sick pet?"
"That's how I got out of the house on Easter."
"Accident?"
"I would have to go to the hospital. Mom would want to come with me and I would get caught. "
"Hyung !"
"What ?"
"Should I set you up with someone? Just tell me your type. I won't let you down."
"That's not really necessary. Just help me find someone to pretend to be my boyfriend for tonight. Please. "
"Boyfriend?" Dokyeom squeaked.
Wonwoo closed his eyes, thinking of a way to explain himself. He hadn’t meant to give himself away.
"It doesn't matter. Just make sure they aren't from our circle. Someone who my parents and shua don't know about." Wonwoo said, opting to bury it.
"Hyung, I may not be able to find someone. Its Christmas eve and we only have a few hours before the party. Hyung, You really….
Are you….. "Dokyeom said quietly, trailing off.
"Dokyeom-ah, please help me out. If I get caught, I don't even wanna think about it. You know how my parents are."
"Okay, hyung. I'll ask my friends. I'll call you as soon as I set things up. “Dokyeom said and ended the call. Wonwoo was grateful that Dokyeom didn’t ask more questions.
Wonwoo stared at his phone for a few more minutes. He thought of all the lies he could come up with if he couldn't find someone. He had already used most of the excuse that could warrant missing the parties for the past two years.
Ten minutes later, Wonwoo's phone rang.
"Hello." Wonwoo said, bracing himself for the bad news.
"Hyung, I found someone. He's one of my friends from university. Shua hyung has never met him. I told him about your situation. He's okay with helping you. "
"Thank you so much, Dokyeom. I didn't think you'll be able to find someone at such short notice. "
"You just have to pick him up. I'll text you the address and his number. If you leave right now, he'll be ready." Dokyeom said.
"Do you want me to pick you up too?" Wonwoo asked.
"It's okay, hyung. My boyfriend is coming to pick me up." Dokyeom said in a tone that Wonwoo guessed was boasting.
"I'll see you at the party. Don't tell anyone about this." Wonwoo said, ending the call.
Wonwoo got ready, he had already picked out the suit and his hair didn't need much work.
Wonwoo entered the address Dokyeom had given him into the GPS. It took him twenty minutes to get there. Wonwoo debated on whether he should wait or call the person. He decided to call as he got out of his car.
A few minutes later, Someone came out of the apartment building.
The guy was tall, probably taller than Wonwoo. That was Wonwoo's first thought as he walked towards him.
"Hi, you must be Wonwoo. I'm Mingyu. Nice to meet you. " Wonwoo’s pretend boyfriend introduced himself.
"Yes, I'm Wonwoo. Thank you so much for agreeing to this on such short notice. I'm sorry for taking up your holiday." Wonwoo said.
Mingyu was wearing a plaid shirt and distressed blue jeans.
"That's fine. Should we get going ?" Mingyu asked, looking at Wonwoo.
Wonwoo blinked and thought hard on how to broach the subject.
"Please don't take this wrong way. The- "
"That definitely means you are gonna say something offensive " Mingyu said, interrupting him.
"The event has a formal dress code. Do you have a suit you can change into?" Wonwoo asked, meekly.
"I have one but I don't think it will fit your definition of formal."
"Will it be okay if I buy you a suit?"
"What's the catch?"
"What?"
"So, you are just gonna buy me a suit for free?"
"You are already accompanying me to a party as my boyfriend. It's the least I could do."
"Sure." Mingyu said, shrugging.
Once they were at the shop, Wonwoo picked out a suit for Mingyu to try on. Mingyu took it without any questions.
When Mingyu came out with the suit on , Wonwoo was struck by Mingyu's face. It seemed as if Mingyu’s appearance had changed. He went from looking cute to handsome. Wonwoo noticed that Mingyu’s tall and fit structure was good on the eyes. His parents would definitely like him. He looked nice and dependable.
"Whoa, I feel like a female lead in a romcom getting a makeover." Mingyu said, giving a twirl making Wonwoo laugh.
"Well, you could be Cinderella for tonight. " Wonwoo said, still laughing.
Mingyu scoffed at him as Wonwoo handed him another suit to try on.
"Just remember to leave before midnight. " Wonwoo said.
Mingyu gave him a charming smile and left.
After a few tries, Wonwoo finally found a suit that matched both Mingyu and the one he was wearing.
"You look good in this." Wonwoo said as he paid for the suit.
"I look good in everything. You're just too picky." Mingyu said.
“This suit has more zeros than my college fee" Mingyu said, removing the tag on the clothes.
“Is that a problem?”
“No. Just making an observation. “ Mingyu said, as they walked to the parking lot.
“What should I call you? Baby? Honey? Darling ?" Mingyu asked rather enthusiastically as Wonwoo started the car.
"Hyung will do just fine. Don't over do it or else my family will find out." Wonwoo said.
"We are supposed to be dating for two years. " Mingyu reminded.
"Everything will work out if you keep quiet. Don't answer anything. I'll take care of it." Wonwoo said. He had assumed Mingyu would be nervous but it seemed that wasn’t the case. Wonwoo was the one feeling anxious.
"Okay. What are you gonna call me, hyung ?" Mingyu asked. He almost seemed to be having fun.
"I'll just call you Mingyu. Is that okay ?" Wonwoo asked.
"Fine. Anything I should know about your family?" Mingyu asked.
"I have a brother named Joshua. Just call him shua hyung when I introduce you to him. My parents are very inquisitive but there will a lot of guests at the party. Just make sure you aren't alone with them. You'll be fine if you stick to me." Wonwoo instructed.
"Tell me about yourself ." Mingyu asked.
"My name is Jeon Wonwoo. I'm 27 and working at my father's company. Now, tell me about you"
"I meant your interests and hobbies but whatever. My name is Kim Mingyu. I'm 24 and majoring in photography. I like dogs. I want to raise one but the apartment don't allow it. And I'm really good at cooking. " Mingyu said, smiling.
"I like cats"
"Do you have any ?"
"No. Too busy with work "
"Okay. Where and how did we meet each other ?" Mingyu asked, leaning closer.
Wonwoo didn't think Mingyu would be this chatty.
"We met at a bar?" Wonwoo said.
"Do you want your parents to think you pick up random guys from bars ?"
"Okay. Maybe not. How about we say a mutual friend set us up ?" Wonwoo said.
"Basic but okay. When is our anniversary?"
"What?"
"We've been dating for two years. When is our anniversary?"
"That's not really necessary "
"Your parents are gonna think I'm such a brat. I didn't even get them anything and this is the first time I'm visiting in two years. " Mingyu said, pouting.
"Mingyu, I think you are getting too involved. Just be natural. And behave. My extended family will be there too. Just don't talk to anyone."
"Okay. I will try to shut up."
"We can do this. " Wonwoo said, mostly to himself.
"Yes we can. How much skin ship is allowed? Is it just hand holding or do I get a goodbye kiss ?" Mingyu asked, teasing Wonwoo.
Wonwoo hit the brakes suddenly. He took a few moments to calm himself.
"That won't be necessary. It's just a few hours. If I'm lucky I will drive you home. If I'm not, I will call you a taxi, Mingyu “ Wonwoo said, still trying to calm down.
"You think you will be lucky enough to take me home tonight?" Mingyu asked, smirking.
"Mingyu, we will be arriving shortly. I’ll introduce you to my parents first and then the rest of my family. If you are feeling uncomfortable with them, just tell me “ Wonwoo said completely ignoring Mingyu’s taunt.
Wonwoo led Mingyu straight to the garden where the party was being held. Mingyu trailed close behind him, looking around, at the decorations.
Wonwoo saw his parents talking to some of the guests. The party was already filled. He headed for his parents, smiling at few of his relatives on his way.
Wonwoo was only a few feet away from his parents when Mingyu suddenly took his hand. Wonwoo turned to him startled. Mingyu was smiling at something ahead of him.
Wonwoo turned back to see his parents attention on them. He couldn't pry back his fingers with them watching. He didn’t miss the surprise on their face. He really should have warned them.
"What do you think you're doing?" Wonwoo whispered, putting a smile on his face.
"Are you nervous? Your fingers are cold" Mingyu asked a bit loudly. His parents smiled, they probably heard it.
"It’s december. " Wonwoo muttered.
"Wonwoo " His mother came forward to hug him and Mingyu let go of his hand.
"Oh, and you must be..?"
"I'm Mingyu. It's a pleasure to meet you finally, Mrs.Jeon . I'm sorry I couldn't visit you sooner." Mingyu said, hugging his mother.
"Oh Mingyu, You look amazing. I didn't know Wonwoo had such a handsome boyfriend and kept you hidden for almost two years" His mother said, patting Mingyu's hands.
Mingyu gave her charming smile and Wonwoo knew his mother was a goner.
"Mr. Jeon, pleased to meet you " Mingyu said extending a hand to his father.
"Mingyu, Nice to finally meet you. I hope you enjoy the party. Wonwoo, please take him to your seats." His father said, pointing to the table his brother was sitting.
Wonwoo led Mingyu to their table. Mingyu laced their fingers together again. Wonwoo tried to pull his hand away from him subtly, but Mingyu just tightened his grip, while smiling.
Joshua was talking to Dokyeom whose laughter was audible even from a distance. Wonwoo waved to Joshua with his free hand as they noticed him walking towards them. Joshua's eyebrows raised in question while Dokyeom stared at them nervously.
Wonwoo mentally prepared himself to explain the situation. He had to completely fool his brother if he wants to pull it off.
"Dokyeom?" Mingyu asked in disbelief that Wonwoo knew was fake. He had no idea what Mingyu was doing right now. He had thought him and Dokyeom would pretend not to know each other.
Dokyeom gave a startled yelp and covered it up with a nervous laugh. Wonwoo looked at Mingyu, hoping he would stop whatever it was he was doing.
"Wow. I can't believe I ran into you here." Mingyu said, patting Dokyeom's shoulder.
Dokyeom laughed again.
"Yeah. What a coincidence. I definitely didn't think I would meet you here tonight. Mingyu, how do you know Wonwoo hyung?" Dokyeom said, looking between Wonwoo and Mingyu.
"You two know each other?" Wonwoo asked, playing along. He saw his brother’s confused look.
Wonwoo made Mingyu sit down next to him, before he could gather more attention.
"Yeah, we go to the same university. We share the same elective." Mingyu said, smiling wide.
"Yes. Yes. We have the same elective" Dokyeom agreed eagerly, looking at Joshua.
"Well, hello. I'm Wonwoo's brother Joshua. It seems you already know Dokyeom " Joshua said, extending his hand to Mingyu.
"Oh, sorry. I'm Mingyu. It's a pleasure to meet you. Wonwoo had talked about you a lot." Mingyu said.
"We both know that's a lie, Mingyu." Joshua said, laughing.
"It's not a lie, Joshua hyung." Mingyu said.
"Forget about that. Tell me about yourself. He's been hiding you for two years. I'm really curious about you." Joshua said, smiling at Wonwoo.
Wonwoo clenched his hand over his knees. This was a bad idea. He should have just come up with an excuse. Mingyu placed his hand atop Wonwoo's and unclenched his fingers, all the while carrying out a conversation with Joshua and Dokyeom. Wonwoo tried to shrug him off.
"Relax." Mingyu whispered, leaning in close. Wonwoo stiffened.
"How did you meet him Wonwoo?" Joshua asked.
"Hmm?"
"Wonwoo, are you okay? You seem to be spacing out a lot today." Joshua asked.
"I'm fine, hyung. What were you saying?"
"How did you two meet each other?"
"Ah, we met-" Wonwoo started but was immediately cut off by Mingyu.
"That's a funny story. I spilled coffee on him accidentally. I told him I'll pay for it but he wouldn't let me. So I just followed him around and eventually he stopped being so cold to me." Mingyu said. Wonwoo was too baffled to even react. He thought the best option is to be quiet right now. He had to get Mingyu away before he starts making up more stories.
"That sounds just like you, Mingyu, spilling things" Dokyeom commented, laughing.
Wonwoo’s eyes met with Dokyeom and he could see that he was trying hard.
"We should greet others, before mom comes to drag us to it." Wonwoo said, getting up.
Wonwoo pulled Mingyu along with him and kept moving introducing Mingyu to the people in their way until they were away from the guests.
"What do you think you are doing?" Wonwoo asked, his voice strained.
"Saving your ass." Mingyu said.
"I told you I'll take care of it. Just shut up and let me do the talking."
"I don't think your brother will believe your version of the story. You're literally shaking. Anyone can see how nervous you are. You told me to be natural. I think you should take your own advice. " Mingyu said, crossing his hands.
"Stop complicating things. You can't just say whatever you want. We already agreed on a story " Wonwoo reminded him.
"Our only mutual acquaintance is Dokyeom. If we had gone by your story we would have gotten both ourselves and Dokyeom in trouble " Mingyu said, looking at him.
"Just don't open your mouth at all. I know you are doing me a favor here and I'm thankful but just don't cross the line. "
"Okay. Fine, you deal with it. " Mingyu said with an exaggerated shrug.
"And no more holding hands " Wonwoo added.
"Why? Is it too much excitement for you ?" Mingyu asked getting closer.
"Stop saying pointless things , Mingyu. "
"Wonwoo, what are you doing here ? Why aren’t you at the party ?” Jeonghan asked him, suddenly coming into view.
Wonwoo felt his heart stop. He hoped that Jeonghan hadn’t heard anything of their argument.
"Oh, Hyung. It's nothing. How was your trip to New York? " Wonwoo asked, moving away from Mingyu.
"The trip was just fine. Aren't you going to introduce me to your friend?" Jeonghan asked him, smiling.
"Hyung, meet Mingyu. He is my boyfriend- "
"So this is the one aunt has been talking about for so long. Mingyu, Nice to meet you"
"Likewise." Mingyu said extending his hand.
"Ah, I'm Jeonghan. Wonwoo's in-law. " Jeonghan said and left with an excuse that he was searching for his husband.
Wonwoo spoke to his relatives and Mingyu to his word had kept quiet, silently standing by his side. It made Wonwoo feel bad about his earlier outburst.
After dinner, most of the guests had left and only his family remained along with his cousin and his husband who would staying over for Christmas.
“Wonwoo, Can I talk to you for a second?” His mother asked him.
Wonwoo nodded, leading his mother to one of the sitting room.
“ What is it, mom?” Wonwoo asked, already knowing the subject of their conversation.
“ Wonwoo, is this why you didn’t want do bring your partner home ?” his mother asked.
“What do you mean?”
“You never told us you had a boyfriend.”
“Mom, I’ve been telling you for two years.”
“You never mentioned that you were dating a guy.”
“I didn’t feel the need to correct you.”
“ Wonwoo, I don’t see why you felt the need to hide it.”
“Why, mom? Is that a problem?” Wonwoo asked, his voice too defensive even to himself.
“Of course not, honey. I’m just sad that you felt like you had to hide yourself from us. Wonwoo, you know this doesn’t change anything.” His mother said, placing a hand on his shoulder.
“I’m sorry, mom. I didn’t mean to hide it. It never came up.” Wonwoo said, smiling at her.
“Oh, honey. I wish you’d talk to me if you have anything troubling you, Wonwoo. I’m here for you.” His mother said, hugging him.
Wonwoo held her tightly, whispering assurances that there was nothing troubling him. There really wasn’t. He had known his preferences early on. Both his brother and cousin never hid the fact that they were gay and Wonwoo never felt the need to announce it.
Mingyu was talking to Dokyeom when he went back. Wonwoo tugged at his sleeve to get his attention.
Mingyu turned towards him in question.
"It's time. We should leave. Let's tell our goodbyes and leave" Wonwoo said, walking towards the house.
"Okay" Mingyu said and trailed after him.
"Thanks for your help today. I'm sorry for snapping at you earlier. " Wonwoo said.
Mingyu just shrugged.
His parents were talking to Joshua who waved them over when he saw.
"Mingyu, How was the party? Did you have fun ?" Joshua asked Mingyu, smiling.
"Oh, Yes, Hyung. It was fun. I wish I could stay longer but I am so sorry I have to leave. " Mingyu said, smiling.
"Thank you for having me, Mr and Mrs. Jeon" Mingyu said, turning to his parents.
"You are leaving already, Mingyu? Aren't you staying?" Wonwoo's father asked Mingyu.
Mingyu just started at Wonwoo.
"He has to leave now. He has work tomorrow "Wonwoo said, looking at Mingyu, whose face suddenly changed.
"Tomorrow is Christmas. It's a holiday" His mother said.
"I thought he was a student? " Joshua asked him, looking at him in confusion.
"I'm sure he is just saying this to get his boyfriend away from us. " Seungcheol said, joining them.
Wonwoo opened and closed his mouth several time but couldn't think of something that actually made sense. He looked at Mingyu. Mingyu smiled at him before turning towards his parents.
"I have a part-time job tomorrow. Since it's Christmas, it will be busy. So I have to go home early and get some sleep. " Mingyu calmly said, smile still on his face. Wonwoo breathed out a silent sigh. He was grateful for Mingyu’s timely save.
"Ahh, that's sad. Can't you take the day off ? I want to know more about my favorite cousin's lover " Seungcheol said, looking at Mingyu.
" Unfortunately, I can't. It will be hard to find someone who can cover my shift. " Mingyu said apologetically.
"Why don't you stay for a few more drinks then ? I didn't get to talk to you at all. I thought you would be staying over, Mingyu " Wonwoo's mother said.
Wonwoo really wanted to help Mingyu. His family was ganging up on him. Even though Mingyu was smiling, Wonwoo knew he must have felt the pressure.
"Stop pestering him. This is why I didn't want to bring him at all. You all-"
" I can stay for a few more drinks, Mrs. Jeon." Mingyu said politely cutting him off, placing his hand on his back. The gesture did not go unnoticed by his parents.
"You have a beautiful house, Mrs. Jeon. "
"Thank you Mingyu . How are your classes going? Dokyeomie said you go to same university " Mrs. Jeon asked leading him to sitting room.
"Well, they are going great. I'm on winter break right now " Mingyu said.
Mingyu sat next to his mother on the couch. Wonwoo took the seat next to him before anyone could. His father sat opposite to them.
Joshua called for Dokyeom before they both sat on the couch next to them.
"Dokyeomie, Why didn't you tell me that your friend was the one wonwoo was seeing?" His mother asked Dokyeom.
0 Wonwoo felt bad for him, he didn't think Dokyeom could lie.
"I didn't know either, aunt. Mingyu never told me " Dokyeom said, the panic was clear in his voice. He saw Joshua reach over and whisper something in Dokyeom's ear.
"Ah, It just never came up. " Mingyu said, taking the wine glass his mother gave him.
"Oh, what is your major, Mingyu?" Wonwoo's father asked Mingyu.
"Photography, Mr. Jeon. "
"Oh really ?" His father echoed. Wonwoo could see his father wasn't that impressed. Mingyu's face faltered for a second before he covered it up with a smile.
"We bonded over our love for photography. Mingyu has such talent. He will be doing an exhibit soon, I can't wait for it" Wonwoo said, patting Mingyu’s shoulder.
Dokyeom laughed and covered it up with a cough.
"Oh, that's sound good. Please invite us Mingyu. I would love to see your work ." Joshua said, smiling at Mingyu .
" When is the exhibit ? We will all come to support you " His father asked, looking both at Mingyu and Wonwoo.
Maybe Wonwoo should have just shut his mouth. He didn't want Mingyu to feel bad so he tried to make him feel better, which absolutely backfired.
"Ah hyung, Why did you say it like that? It's just a project. I’ll invite you when it’s decided. " Mingyu effectively lied.
Mingyu leaned in closer to him.
"Now, who's the one complicating things ?" Mingyu whispered.
"I'm sorry." Wonwoo whispered back.
"What do your parents do, Mingyu?" Wonwoo's father asked.
"They own a restaurant." Mingyu said, looking at Wonwoo.
"Is Seungcheol-ie here ?" Jeonghan asked, entering the room.
"I'm here, Jeonghan. "Seungcheol called out, waving.
Jeonghan walked to Seungcheol and sat in the armrest of his chair, wrapping a hand around his shoulder. Jeonghan smiled at him when saw that Wonwoo was looking at him. There was a glint in Jeonghan’s eyes that made Wonwoo restless.
"Ah, You are all taking to Mingyu. They aren't boring you too much, are they ?" Jeonghan asked Mingyu.
"No, This is fun. " Mingyu said.
Wonwoo saw the confusion on his face.
"Mingyu, this is Jeonghan. You met him earlier”
It seemed his entire family was interested in Mingyu.
"Are you staying here for Christmas?" Jeonghan asked looking curious.
"I'm going home shortly."
"Oh, haven't you heard the news ? There is a blizzard outside. No one can go anywhere. Even the temporary staff we hired are staying here. I wondered if the guests got back safely." Jeonghan said. He smiled eerily when he met Wonwoo’s eyes.
"What ?" Both Wonwoo and Mingyu said at the same time.
Wonwoo looked it up on his phone and Jeonghan was right. There was a blizzard.
He looked at Mingyu in worry.
"Mingyu, How are you going to go home?" Dokyeom asked, worry evident in his voice.
"It's okay. I will wait it out. It would only be a few hours right?" Mingyu asked hopefully.
"Oh, Mingyu. No. Absolutely not. It's too dangerous. Stay over and leave in the morning when it’s safe. " Wonwoo's mother said, grabbing Mingyu's hand in hers.
"It's alright, Mrs. Jeon. I will be fine. "
"Just stay over Mingyu. I insist ." His father said.
"Wonwoo-ya , say something. Even if the blizzard passes, the roads won't be safe. " Joshua said, urging Wonwoo to convince Mingyu.
"Yeah, you should stay tonight, Mingyu. I'll take you to your work in the morning. We can leave early." Wonwoo said finally looking at Mingyu. Mingyu nodded at him silently. As much as Wonwoo wanted to leave, he agreed with his family.
The rest of his family continued the conversation with Mingyu. Wonwoo tuned them out.
"Are you sure ?" Mingyu whispered, a while later.
"Yeah. It's too dangerous."
"Okay, then." Mingyu said, smiling.
"Whoa, look at the time. We should go to bed.” Dokyeom said, getting up.
"What are you talking about, Dokyeom-ah? It's not even midnight. " Joshua said, laughing.
"Hyung, I wanna wake up early tomorrow to open the presents." Dokyeom whined.
Wonwoo was sure Dokyeom was trying to help him and Mingyu.
"Dokyeom-ah, are you tired already?" Jeonghan asked.
"Yes, hyung. I was out shopping gifts for hours." Dokyeom said.
"You should have bought them earlier." Seungcheol said, laughing.
"Let's just go to bed. " his mother said, getting up.
"Goodnight, kids. Don't stay up too late. " His father said, walking out.
"Mingyu, come on. I will show you where the guestrooms are. " Dokyeom said, gesturing Mingyu over.
Wonwoo saw the dumbfounded looks the others sent Dokyeom.
"Dokyeom-ie, why would Mingyu stay in the guest room?" Joshua asked.
Wonwoo looked at him confused. He didn't understand why his brother was asking something so obvious.
"Because he is a guest." Dokyeom answered.
Joshua burst out laughing.
"Ah, Dokyeom-ah." Jeonghan said, shaking his head.
"What did I say wrong?" Dokyeom asked, looking around.
"Do you stay in the guest room?" Seungcheol asked, barely controlling his laughter.
"No. I stay in shua hyung's room because I- oh. Oh!" Dokyeom said and looked at Mingyu, eyes widening in realisation.
Wonwoo finally understood what had seem to be obvious to others.
"Wonwoo, are you okay ? You're so quiet today." Seungcheol asked.
"As if he talks a lot usually. " Jeonghan commented.
"I’m tired. Let's just go to bed. " Wonwoo said, getting up. Mingyu followed him, saying his goodbyes to the others.
"I'm so sorry about this, Mingyu. I didn't think you would have to stay here " Wonwoo said, as soon as he locked his door.
"It's fine. I will sleep on the couch " Mingyu said, looking around.
"Oh no, you should sleep on the bed. I don't think you would fit on the couch " Wonwoo said.
"You wanna share the bed?" Mingyu asked.
Wonwoo felt his cheeks redden. That wasn’t what he had in his mind.
"That's not what I meant. I'll take the couch. Since I'm the one who got you into this mess." Wonwoo said.
"I don't think you'll fit in the couch either. " Mingyu said.
"It’s fine. Just take the bed."
"Hyung, " Mingyu called.
"Why are you suddenly calling me hyung?"
"The bed is big enough. I'll promise to stay on one side. "Mingyu said, looking at him.
"Fine. Stay here, I'll get you some clothes to change into." Wonwoo said.
"Thanks hyung ." Mingyu said, smiling.
Wonwoo gave Mingyu a set of his pajamas and left him to wash up.
"Wow, these are so soft. " Mingyu commented, when Wonwoo came out of the shower.
"Good night, Mingyu" Wonwoo said, getting on the bed.
"Are you just gonna sleep ?"
"Yes. Why?" Wonwoo asked, from under the covers.
"You know, it's Christmas tomorrow. "
"So?"
"Merry Christmas." Mingyu said with a fake cheer in his voice.
"Merry Christmas to you too. Now, can we go to sleep?" Wonwoo said, peaking at Mingyu.
"I'll have to spend tomorrow morning with your family."
"I'm sorry about that, I'll get you out as soon as I can." Wonwoo apologized.
"Joshua Hyung told me you guys have a tradition of gifting each other. I didn't buy gifts for anyone. " Mingyu said, sullen.
"Don't worry about that. I'll tell them I picked the gifts with your help." Wonwoo said, turning to look at Mingyu.
" You know they're gonna ask more questions in the morning, right ?" Mingyu asked, lying down.
"So? "
"We should just practice something to tell them. "
"Like what? "
"Like, who asked who out first? Where did we go on our first date? What did we do for our anniversary? How did we fall in love? What is your favorite food? "
“Is that all? " Wonwoo asked, staring at Mingyu.
"No, but it's a start." Mingyu said, oblivious to the sarcasm.
"You seem way too into this for a guy who got roped into this at the last minute. " Wonwoo said, turning away.
"Well I am having fun. You're family seems fine. Is there a reason you're still single?" Mingyu asked.
"I don't have time for stuff like that" Wonwoo said turning away.
" We went to a restaurant on our first date. Some fancy name that I can't pronounce. You asked me out first. Even though I was the one who was chasing after you for days to offer to pay for your laundry "
"I don't think-"
"You don't get to say anything. Just listen. Then we went on several different dates to the parks , cafes, etcetera. Our anniversary is in february 19th. We didn't do anything on our first anniversary because you are a workaholic and I had exams. For our second anniversary we are planning on going on a trip. Personally I prefer that you take me somewhere overseas but I don't really mind. "
"Aren't you getting a little too ahead of yourself? " Wonwoo asked, quietly listening to Mingyu’s rambling.
" Anyways, your favorite food is whatever I cook for you. With that in mind, do you have any allergies?"
"I can't eat seafood."
"That's too bad. When is your birthday anyways?"
" Why?"
"What do you mean why? I'm your boyfriend." Mingyu teased.
"I don't think you need to know that."
"God, you're impossible."
"Good night ." Wonwoo said, pulling the blanket up to his chin.
"wait, I'm not done yet"
"what else is there? "
"Shouldn't we practice something else too? "
"Hmm? "
" You wanna practice kissing? " Mingyu said suggestively.
" How about we practice having an argument and you sleeping on the couch? " Wonwoo said, completely flustered.
"okay, I'll stop. Good night, hyung " Mingyu said, laughing.
Wonwoo closed his eyes but sleep evaded him. Next to him Mingyu slept soundlessly. Wonwoo wasn't used to sharing his bed with anyone, let alone some stranger he met today.
Wonwoo heard his alarm go off. He sat up groggily and checked the time. It was six, too early for Wonwoo to be awake.
Wonwoo looked around his bedroom, disoriented. His surroundings were strange but familiar. He remembered going to his parents house. He felt like something was missing but he couldn't remember it . He went back to sleep when he couldn't keep his eyes open anymore.
"Wonwoo, wake up. "
Wonwoo woke up to the sound of his brother calling him.
"Hyung? "
"Wake up. We are having breakfast downstairs. Come on. I kept your coffee on the table. Also, Mingyu is getting interrogated by mom "
"Mingyu? " Wonwoo asked, confused.
" Man, you're really out of it. Just come down as quick as you can "
Wonwoo waved him off and went to shower.
Last nights events came crashing into his mind as the hot water washed over him. Wonwoo showered quickly and ran downstairs. It took him a few minutes to find Mingyu.
Mingyu was in the kitchen, which Wonwoo had been to only twice in his life. His mother's laughter was audible all the way down the corridor.
"Ah, hyung! You woke up." Mingyu announced as Wonwoo walked into the kitchen.
"Good morning " Wonwoo smiled, swallowing his nerves.
"Good morning. Merry Christmas, Wonwoo. What took you so long? The others are already at the table.” His mother said, turning to him.
"Merry Christmas, mom. I slept through my alarm." Wonwoo muttered, walking around the counter to get to Mingyu.
Mingyu smiled at him brightly. Wonwoo tried not to look away.
"Hyung, Merry Christmas. Did you sleep well?" Mingyu asked.
"Yes. Why didn't you wake me up?" Wonwoo whispered, leaning towards Mingyu.
"How could I wake you up when you were sleeping so peacefully, hyung. You were tossing around last night too. " Mingyu said, pouting.
Wonwoo stared at him, confused. This isn't what he had planned.
"What are you doing ?" Wonwoo asked, keeping his voice down, not wanting his mother to hear.
"Pancakes." Mingyu replied with a smile.
"That's not what I meant !" Wonwoo exclaimed.
"Hyung, are you hungry? " Mingyu asked, sweet and loud.
"Wonwoo, we'll be done in a few minutes. Just wait until then." His mother said, steering him out of the kitchen.
Wonwoo heard Mingyu's laughter as he left and walked back to the dining room. Most of his family were already there, chatting.
"Hyung, merry Christmas!" Dokyeom wished, getting up and hugging Wonwoo.
Wonwoo hugged him back muttering his greetings.
"Hyung, why did you let Mingyu come down here alone ? He's been telling them stories for hours. You better be careful, hyung." Dokyeom whispered, looking around.
"What did he say ?" Wonwoo asked, placing his hand on his forehead.
"Just stories about how you met and stuff like that. " Dokyeom answered.
"What are you whispering about?" Joshua asked, leaning in.
"Nothing "
"Nothing "
Both Wonwoo and Dokyeom said frantically moving away.
Joshua raised an eyebrow.
"Seungcheol, It's too early for drinks " Jeonghan said as he walked into the dinning room, stealing the attention.
"It's Christmas " Seungcheol said as an excuse.
"Jeonghan hyung, Merry Christmas " Dokyeom said, taking off.
Wonwoo said his greetings to the rest of his family.
" Wonwoo, what did you get me ?" Joshua asked, smiling.
"I'm not telling. You'll know after breakfast anyway "
"Wonwoo, just tell me " Joshua asked, following to his seat.
"Nope. You know the rule " Wonwoo reminded.
"What rule?" Mingyu asked , placing the pancakes on the table, followed by his mother. Wonwoo hadn’t heard him coming. Mingyu sat next to him .
"We are not supposed to talk about the gifts before breakfast " Jeonghan said, eyeing Seungcheol.
"Why?" Mingyu asked, curiously looking around.
"Because-" Jeonghan started only to be interrupted by his husband.
Seungcheol covered Jeonghan's mouth his hand, making the room burst into laughter.
" It's because we get quite upset if we don't like the gifts. It has led to many fights, mostly because of Jeonghan, who likes to prank and Seungcheol, who is always the victim of his pranks." Joshua said leaning across Wonwoo.
"It was just one time that I got too upset." Seungcheol said, glaring at both Joshua and Jeonghan.
"Let's eat." His father said, patting Seungcheol’s back.
"What did you say to my mother ?" Wonwoo whispered, when everyone was busy with their food.
" You know she was just asking some stuff about our relationship. Don't worry I didn’t say anything important. " Mingyu said back.
"Here, I made this for you." Mingyu said, loudly, placing the pancakes on his plate.
Wonwoo's gave him a pointed look and forced a smile on his face. Mingyu smiled back oblivious to Wonwoo's ire.
"Thank you" Wonwoo said, taking a bite. He had no appetite, too nervous to even think about food.
"It's delicious " Wonwoo said. He hadn't expected Mingyu to be such a good cook.
"Of course. I know all your favorites " Mingyu said, smiling.
Wonwoo choked on his food.
Mingyu patted his back, handing him a glass of water.
It was the longest breakfast Wonwoo had ever had in his life. Mingyu was more fussier than his mother when Wonwoo stopped at his second pancake.
After breakfast, Wonwoo dragged Mingyu to the living room. Wonwoo just wanted to know what had Mingyu told his mother earlier. The rest of his family would be here in a while so they had to make it quick.
Wonwoo sat down on the couch and motioned for Mingyu to sit next to him.
Mingyu sat, close enough that their arms were pressed together.
"What are you doing? There is no one around. What are you playing at?" Wonwoo asked as heat rose to his cheeks.
"Oh, You are one who told me sit next to you." Mingyu said, moving few inches away which was still too close for Wonwoo.
"We need to leave. The blizzard ended." Wonwoo said, clasping his hands. He had forgotten his gloves upstairs and his hands were starting to get cold.
"What? I thought we were doing well." Mingyu said with a pout.
"We need to leave after they open the presents. They won't let us go before that. I hope the roads are cleared. " Wonwoo said, looking to the window to see the snow.
Mingyu's warm hands enclosed his own. Wonwoo turned to him for an explanation.
"Wow, You are freezing " Mingyu said, rubbing his hands.
"Thanks but I'm fine" Wonwoo said, pulling his hands from Mingyu.
Mingyu nodded, looking down. Wonwoo shivered as he lost the warmth of Mingyu's fingers.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Mingyu asked, moving closer again.
Wonwoo felt himself blush as Mingyu placed his hands on either side of Wonwoo's face, not quite touching but hovering there as if he was asking for permission.
Before Wonwoo could do anything about it, Joshua walked in and stopped short as he saw them. Wonwoo jumped away from Mingyu, hiding his face.
"Should I ask everyone to come back
later ?" Joshua asked, laughing.
"Hyung! " Mingyu whined. Wonwoo placed his hands over his face and pretended he didn't exist.
"You could have just gone back to your room, Wonwoo. " Jeonghan teased, walking in.
"Hyung, it’s not what you think." Mingyu said, laughing along.
"Wonwoo hyung, are you okay ? Your face is so red. " Dokyeom asked, sitting beside Joshua.
"I'm fine." Wonwoo said, looking down.
"Ah, young love! Don't they look so cute together." Wonwoo's mother said.
Wonwoo groaned. He really wanted to disappear as heard snickers from his family. He knew he would never live this down.
"Let's just open the gifts " Wonwoo said, picking up a random gift.
He gave it to Dokyeom when he saw the name tag.
Soon, the crinkle of wrapping paper filled the room.
Wonwoo searched for one which had his name on it. He found one, wrapped in blue. It was scented candles from Dokyeom. Wonwoo thanked him but Dokyeom didn't seem to notice as he was more focused on opening his presents.
Wonwoo picked up another one with his name on it.
"Here, Mingyu " Joshua said. Wonwoo turned to see him handing Mingyu a gift. He hadn’t thought his brother would get Mingyu something. Though he had informed he would bring his partner home for christmas he didn’t think his family believed him. After all, he had been saying it for two years.
Mingyu looked at the present in confusion.
"Wonwoo never told us your name so I didn't know what to write in the name tag" Joshua said with a laugh.
Wonwoo saw Mingyu smile politely and thank Joshua as he took the gift.
Mingyu looked eager as he opened the present. Wonwoo moved closer to look at the gift.
Maybe Wonwoo should have bought him something, after all he was doing him a favor. He was sure they would be able to leave last night and would have avoided this whole situation all together.
"Ah Hyung, not this again. " Dokyeom's loud voice took his attention away from Mingyu.
Wonwoo saw him unwrapping a guitar case and started laughing.
"This is the sixth one. You got me one for my birthday this year, Jeonghan hyung." Dokyeom said keeping it away.
"Ah really? Did I?" Jeonghan said, with a sly smile.
"Hyung, buy me something else. I know I can play the guitar but I am afraid that my apartment is going to be filled with guitars at this rate."
Eventually Dokyeom's whining faded into the background.
Wonwoo opened another present. It was a bracelet with purple beads from his brother. He was sure that Joshua had made it.
A tap on his shoulder got Wonwoo's attention. He turned to see Mingyu, showing him something on his phone.
Wonwoo moved closer and noticed that the bracelet Joshua had given him was identical to the one in Mingyu's hand.
"I don't think we'll be able to leave anytime soon." Mingyu said, giving the phone to him.
Wonwoo read the news article Mingyu showed. It said that due to the heavy blizzard that occurred, all roads were blocked and the highways haven't been cleared.
"Is something wrong , Wonwoo?" Seungcheol asked, leaning over Wonwoo and seeing the phone.
"Oh, the roads are blocked. Mingyu, what are we going to do ? You can't go to your work" Seungcheol said.
"What ? Why? " Dokyeom asked, looking around.
"The roads are still blocked. There's no way he can leave now. Well, none of us can leave now" Jeonghan said .
"Are you going to get in trouble at your work ?" His father asked Mingyu.
" No, it's alright. It's not like we can do anything about the blizzard. "
"The circumstances are unfortunate but I'm glad we can spend time with you " His mother said, smiling.
Wonwoo looked at Dokyeom and saw the same nervousness reflected there.
"Ah, Choi Seungcheol, you idiot " Jeonghan exclaimed loudly, startling Wonwoo.
"What's wrong? Why?" Wonwoo's father asked.
"How would I know you would do the same thing? I thought you were asking me get the tickets. That's all you were talking about for this entire month" Seungcheol said.
"I was telling you that I'm getting it. I was giving you a clue. So you would be free on that day. I can't believe I married an idiot like you " Jeonghan said getting up.
"Sit down, Jeonghan-ie." His father said, laughing.
"This is why we don't open presents before breakfast " Joshua said to Mingyu.
"Are they gonna fight?" Mingyu asked Wonwoo, leaning closer.
"No" Wonwoo said.
"They will probably make up in a few minutes " Dokyeom said, tugging at Joshua.
"Let's go upstairs." Wonwoo whispered, to Mingyu and left the room.
Mingyu followed him after a minute.
"What's up ?" Mingyu asked as he walked into wonwoo's room.
"I don't think you'll be able to leave for today or tomorrow. I'm really sorry about this. I know I said it's only for a night but I really feel bad about-" Wonwoo rambled.
"Hyung, it's fine." Mingyu said, interrupting Wonwoo.
Mingyu grabbed Wonwoo's shoulder and leaned in, looking him in the eye.
"Its really fine. Your family is so nice to me that I feel guilty for lying to them. You should just talk to them. I'm sure they will understand. " Mingyu said, not looking away from Wonwoo.
"What makes you say that ?" Wonwoo said, pushing his hands away.
"They're your parents, you should know. If I had brought home a boyfriend for Christmas, that would have been a disaster." Mingyu said, shrugging.
"Your family doesn't know?" Wonwoo asked, curiously.
"Well, yours didn't either. At least not until yesterday. Your mom was quite sad that she didn't get me a gift. Apparently she brought a pair of earrings for your lover. She was really embarrassed when she told me about it. " Mingyu said, crossing his arms.
"There's nothing to say." Wonwoo said, walking away.
"So, no tragic backstory as to why you're still single." Mingyu asked, grabbing Wonwoo.
"Nope." Wonwoo said, plopping down on his bed.
"Then what? Don't give me that nonsense about being too busy to date. I'm pretty sure your brother is busier than you. " Mingyu said, sitting next to him.
"Why do you care ?"Wonwoo asked, propping himself on his elbows.
"I don't."
"Then stop asking useless questions."
"Humor me." Mingyu said, unrelenting.
Wonwoo sighed.
"I don't know. I'm just not interested in dating. Does that answer your question ?" Wonwoo asked, falling back on bed.
"Why ?" Mingyu asked, lying next to Wonwoo.
"What do you mean why ?" Wonwoo asked back, turning sideways to look at him.
"There's really no dark past to uncover ?" Mingyu asked, smiling.
Wonwoo blushed at the teasing tone of his voice.
"What about you?"
"I'm a final year undergrad student. I'm sure you remember how frantic that was ." Mingyu said, still smiling.
"I'm sure you're not busier than Dokyeom. " Wonwoo said, recounting Mingyu's words.
Mingyu laughed, loud and melodic. Wonwoo stared at him, at the curve of his lips.
"I'm sure Dokyeom doesn't have to work two part time jobs to pay for his rent and tuition. " Mingyu said.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-" Wonwoo stammered.
"It’s fine. " Mingyu waved him off.
“Okay but you still haven’t answered my question.” Wonwoo said, turning away.
“I got dumped by my girlfriend last month. I’m still recovering from heartbreak.” Mingyu said.
Wonwoo smiled at the playful tone of his voice.
“Stop kidding.” Wonwoo said, hitting him lightly. He wasn’t sure whether he should be surprised about the break up or the fact Mingyu had a girlfriend. He thought Mingyu was gay.
“Why do you think I’m kidding?” Mingyu said, catching Wonwoo’s hand.
“Why would anyone want to break up with you? You look-" Wonwoo mumbled and realized he was saying it aloud. He turned to see Mingyu’s amused expression and buried himself under the covers.
“Hyung, finish your sentence.” Mingyu said, laughing.
“Did you really get dumped by your girlfriend ?” Wonwoo asked, looking at Mingyu.
“Which part are you curious about? The break up or the girlfriend?” Mingyu asked, with a grin.
Wonwoo realized Mingyu knew exactly what he was thinking. He was beginning to think maybe he had got Mingyu all wrong.
“Both.” Wonwoo admitted.
“Yes. I did get dumped by my girlfriend. It wasn’t a serious relationship. We were just having fun and then we weren’t.”
Wonwoo blinked in disbelief, he couldn’t think of any reason someone could find to reject Mingyu. Then he remembered he had only known him for a day.
“Why are you so surprised?” Mingyu asked.
“I thought you were… you know. Its just you were so comfortable around me.” Wonwoo said, trying to beat around the obvious.
Mingyu laughed.
“I’ve had boyfriends too. I just have the worst luck when it comes to dating.” Mingyu said, looking at him.
"What do you usually do for Christmas?" Wonwoo asked, changing the subject
"Hmm?" Mingyu laughed.
"For Christmas? Do you usually not go home ?" Wonwoo asked.
"Not really. Its just a hassle to go all the way there just to stay for a week. Besides I usually pick up another gig during break." Mingyu said turning away.
"Do you live alone ?"Wonwoo asked.
" Are you finally interested in me?" Mingyu asked, suddenly turning around.
"Never mind." Wonwoo said, pushing him lightly.
"I have two roommates. One is a performance arts major and other is a foreign exchange student. They are both really fun. " Mingyu said grinning.
"Why not stay at the university dorms ?" Wonwoo asked.
" I didn't like it. I spent a year there." Mingyu said, scrunching his face as if remembering something bad.
"What else you don't like ?"
"You know, people usual ask someone their likes before their dislikes." Mingyu said.
"You already told me what you like."
"Did I?" Mingyu asked, leaning away.
"I can't think of anything I dislike. What about you ? What do you like and hate ?" Mingyu said, looking at him again.
"Are you interested in me?"
"Yes, terribly. " Mingyu said, nodding his head.
"Stop joking around" Wonwoo said, laughing.
"Are you not gonna answer it?" Mingyu said , pouting at him.
"No." Wonwoo said, trying to keep his laughter in.
"Tell me." Mingyu whined, shaking Wonwoo wildly.
"I'm not gonna tell you " Wonwoo said in between laughter.
"Should we go downstairs? Shouldn't you be with your family or are you usually holed up in your room even in holidays?" Mingyu asked.
Wonwoo sat up, still trying to catch his breath.
"It’s fine. I don't want you to feel suffocated by them. " Wonwoo said, looking at him.
"Why ?" Mingyu asked, sitting up.
"I didn't think you'll be comfortable with strangers." Wonwoo said.
"Let's go." Mingyu called, standing up.
" What?"
Mingyu dragged Wonwoo downstairs with him.
"What are you doing Mingyu ?" Wonwoo whispered furiously. He could hear voices as they went down.
"If we stayed in you room for too long, your family's gonna think we were doing something else " Mingyu said, raising an eyebrow.
" Mingyu!"
Mingyu's laughter echoed as he went inside.
Wonwoo took a few seconds to calm himself before he too went in.
The next two days that they were stuck went more comfortable than Wonwoo had expected it to be. It was filled with idle chatter and video games.
Mingyu fit into his family better than Wonwoo had expected him to. Mingyu had an carefree attitude which made him easier to get along with everyone. He also fit in with Wonwoo, which he never expected because of their opposing personalities. They had a lot more in common then he thought. He thought it wouldn’t be too bad to have Mingyu as a friend.
Wonwoo stopped worrying about his parents figuring it out. He answered the many questions that came his way without thinking and Mingyu did a good job of adding useless details to his answers which his family seemed to buy. Wonwoo thought Mingyu had an vibrant imagination to come up with such detailed stories that said nothing about the two of them.
" Mingyu, the roads are cleared. " Wonwoo said, checking the news.
They were playing video games in Joshua’s room with Seungcheol. Mingyu was next to him, watching him play.
" Are we leaving right now ?" Mingyu asked hesitantly.
"It's almost time for dinner. We'll leave after it." Wonwoo said.
Mingyu nodded smiling.
"Are you guys leaving? I just heard the news downstairs. " Dokyeom asked, coming in with refreshments.
"Yeah, After dinner. " Mingyu said.
"That soon ? Can't you stay the night ? We are leaving in the morning. You could leave with us " Seungcheol said.
"I have work and so does Mingyu. " Wonwoo said.
"I am so glad I became a doctor instead of joining the company " Joshua said, laughing.
"Well, I don't have to worry about work. Ah, Mingyu. Are you free on the 31st?" Seungcheol asked.
Wonwoo gave Mingyu a glance and shook his head lightly. He thought he was being subtle but Seungcheol called him out on it.
"I take it that you are free. Here, these are the tickets for the musical. We have an extra pair. Since we didn't get you any gift for Christmas, please take this. Enjoy the show with Wonwoo. " Seungcheol said handing him an envelope.
"Thank you " Mingyu said, taking them.
After dinner, they said their goodbyes. His parents wanted Mingyu to visit them. Wonwoo was already thinking of excuses to give them the next they brought him up.
The ride to Mingyu's apartment was quite with them listening to songs. Mingyu turned to him when Wonwoo parked the car in front of his apartment .
"What should we do about this?" Mingyu asked.
Wonwoo saw that he was holding the tickets.
"Oh you can go watch it with someone. It's for you."
"Do you have any plans on the 31st ?" Mingyu asked.
"What ?"
"Do you have plans on new year's eve ?"
"Nothing as of yet. But I'll probably be working. I can’t say. "
"I'm sure you won't be working. It's after 9 anyways . "
"Mingyu, I don't that will work out " Wonwoo said, looking at him.
"What if I run into your cousin and his husband ?" Mingyu asked.
"Just tell them I'm busy. They won't question it." Wonwoo reasoned.
"Hyung, you're so cruel. I just spent two days at your place pretending to be your boyfriend. You won't even go to a show with me in return." Mingyu complained, with a pout.
"Okay. I'll go. " Wonwoo said, giving in quickly. He patted Mingyu's hand.
"Really? No taking back, okay? No last minute cancellations, okay ?"Mingyu said, grabbing Wonwoo's hand.
Wonwoo smiled, shaking his head.
"Hyung, you know this was one hell of a first date. I don't think anything can out do this one. " Mingyu said, leaning closer.
Wonwoo blinked, not wanting to understand Mingyu's words. Mingyu closed the distance between them and pressed a kiss to his lips. Wonwoo stilled in shock, barely breathing.
"I'll see you later hyung. Call me when you get home.” Mingyu whispered in his ear and left the car.
Wonwoo sat in his car, unmoving for a few minutes. He stared at himself in the mirror and was surprised to see his smile, reflecting back at him.

Chapter Text
Mingyu was still smiling as he walked into his apartment. He had kissed Wonwoo just minutes ago. His head felt like it was spinning.
"Why are you smiling like a creep?" Minghao asked, bringing Mingyu back to reality.
"Nothing." Mingyu answered, grinning.
"It doesn't seem like nothing. What are you wearing?" Soonyoung asked, twisting his neck to look at Mingyu from the couch.
"I told you I was staying with a friend, right? It's his clothes." Mingyu said, walking into his room.
Mingyu was staring at his phone the rest of the night. He thought Wonwoo would call him. Mingyu fell asleep waiting and the first thing he did when he woke up was check his phone.
There was still no calls or messages from Wonwoo. But there was a message from Wonwoo's mother asking if he had gotten home safely.
Mingyu replied to her before he went to shower.
"Call them." Minghao said.
They were watching some Christmas rerun in their living room. Mingyu looked to him in question.
"Whoever you are waiting for, call them instead of staring at your phone." Minghao said.
"Whose call are you waiting for?" Soonyoung asked, turning from the chair he was sitting on.
"My boyfriend. " Mingyu said, making the both of them laugh.
"Since when?" Soonyoung asked.
"Since Christmas. "
"Did Santa give you a boyfriend this year ?" Minghao asked, laughing.
"Maybe. I don't know. He isn't calling back. " Mingyu said, waving his phone at him.
"Ok. Tell us what happened . " Soonyoung said, joining them on the couch, the movie forgotten.
"So, you guys know my friend Dokyeom right? Apparently his boyfriend's brother has been lying to his parents that he was dating someone and the person he was supposed to bring to the Christmas party couldn't make it. So, my friend asked me for a favor. "
"And you said yes?"Minghao asked, judging.
"Yeah. It's a party. With expensive food. I had nothing to lose. Of course I said yes."
"Ok. Good job." Soonyoung said, giving him a thumbs up.
"Then, I met the guy who was super handsome. He was beautiful. Sharp eyes, long nose, nice lips. And his shoulder. They were so broad. " Mingyu said, remembering Wonwoo.
"Ok Mingyu. Move along. We got it. He's your type." Minghao said.
"Anyways, his family was so nice. I didn't know they were 'Rich' rich. The house was so big. But he can't lie. He is so bad at it. I covered for his ass. So, I was supposed to leave after the party. But then the blizzard hit. His family wouldn't let me go until it was safe. So I stayed the night. With him. In his room. We shared the bed."
"You said their house was big. Couldn't you have found a guest room to sleep in?' Minghao asked.
"Ah, I was pretending to be dating him for like two years. Of course I am going to be sleeping with him. "
"Did you sleep with him?" Soonyoung asked, horrified.
"You just met him. How could you do that?" Minghao asked.
"Relax, nothing happened. He is a goody two shoes. Then, I had to stay there until the roads were clear. I just hung out with him and his family. You know they bought me gifts. "
"Really?"
"Yeah. For someone they never met. Look. His brother made it. " Mingyu said showing the bracelet he was wearing in his hand.
"His cousin gave me two tickets to a musical for new year's eve."
"Are you going to see him again?" Soonyoung asked curiously.
"I want to. Except he isn't calling me. I told him to and he didn't. Does that mean he is not interested? We even kissed." Mingyu said.
"You kissed him ?" Soonyoung yelled.
"It was just a peck. But he blushed like I did something else. He is so cute. But why wouldn't he call me ?" Mingyu asked with a pout.
"Why don't you call him? If you want something, go for it." Minghao said.
Mingyu's phone rang.
The three of them turned to it. Mingyu snatched it, only for his enthusiasm to drop when he saw it was Dokyeom.
"Hey, Dk. How's it going?" Mingyu asked.
"It's good. You? Did you get home safe ?"
"Yeah. What's up?"
"Just called to check up on you. I really owe you one."
"Don't bother about it. It's fine. "
Mingyu was disappointed. He thought it would be Wonwoo.
The musical was in two days. Mingyu wondered if Wonwoo would call him before that or call him at all.
Two days passed by in a blur. Mingyu ran into Wonwoo's brother while he was hanging out with Dokyeom. Wonwoo's mother had called him once asking if he had lunch and they talked some more about his classes. Even Wonwoo's cousin had texted him. But there was still nothing from Wonwoo. It was almost as if Wonwoo was avoiding him.
"Are you still waiting for that guy to call ?" Minghao asked, dropping next to him on the couch.
"No." Mingyu said, defeated.
The show was in three hours and he was yet to hear anything from Wonwoo.
"Yeah, that sounds totally believable." Minghao said, laughing.
"Hey guys, there's a car parked right in front of the apartment. Do you wanna call the cops and watch it get towed. It looks expensive. " Soonyoung said, leaning in from the balcony.
"They're probably just gone somewhere for a few minutes. Just let it go and come inside. " Mingyu said, throwing some paper at him.
"It's been there for more than an hour." Soonyoung said.
"The better question is what were you doing out there for more than an hour?" Minghao asked.
"Relaxing. " Soonyoung said, walking in.
Mingyu's phone rang. Mingyu's eyes widened as he saw the caller id. He had given up hope. Mingyu took his phone and went out into the balcony before his roommates could see it.
"Hello ?" Mingyu said quietly.
"Hey, Mingyu. How are you ?" Wonwoo asked, awkwardly.
"I'm fine. What about you, hyung ? Are you okay? " Mingyu asked, just as awkwardly.
"Yeah, I'm fine. " Wonwoo answered.
There was just silence as the both of them tried to think of something to say.
"Hyung? Are you still there ?" Mingyu asked.
"Yeah. Sorry. I just called to ask if you have a date to the musical. If you're going that is." Wonwoo said, hesitantly.
"I thought you were my date for the musical. You promised me, hyung. " Mingyu said, looking down.
Something familiar caught Mingyu's attention.
"Oh. " Wonwoo said with a chuckle.
"How can you forget it? You promised. "
"Are we still on? I could come get you in an hour. We can still make it on time." Wonwoo said.
"An hour?" Mingyu asked, getting out of his apartment.
"Is that not enough time? I'm sorry I should have called you earlier but I was a bit busy with work." Wonwoo rambled.
"Where are you now ?" Mingyu asked, getting out of the elevator.
"Me? I'm still working. I can pick you up when you are ready. " Wonwoo said hesitantly.
"Oh, really?" Mingyu asked.
"Yes." Wonwoo answered.
Mingyu knocked on the window of the car parked in front of his apartment building. The window rolled down.
" I didn't know your office was around here, hyung." Mingyu said, leaning down.
Wonwoo let out a startled noise as he saw Mingyu and hid his face.
"Oh, come on hyung! How long have you been sitting here?" Mingyu asked, opening the car door.
"I just came here. I didn't want to rush you." Wonwoo said, looking at him.
Mingyu laughed at the lie. Wonwoo was as red as a beet.
"why don't you come up with me?" Mingyu asked, inviting him to his apartment.
"No, I don't wanna disturb you. I'll wait here. "
"I hope you know this is a no parking zone. Sooner or later someone is going to report you. Park it down the road and come on. I'll wait for you here." Mingyu said.
"Okay." Wonwoo nodded as he started the car.
Mingyu watched as Wonwoo drove away and waited until he walked back to him.
"You should have called me earlier. " Mingyu said, as they waited for the elevator.
"Sorry." Wonwoo muttered, looking down.
"So what were you upto the last three days?" Mingyu asked.
"Just work. I was a little busy. " Wonwoo said.
"Cool." Mingyu said, getting into the elevator. Wonwoo followed him.
"What about you ?" Wonwoo asked, looking at him.
"I just hung out with my friends, did my part time jobs, waited for your call." Mingyu said, looking at him pointedly.
Wonwoo wouldn't meet his eyes. Mingyu opened the door to his apartment.
"Come in." Mingyu said, smiling.
Wonwoo walked into the living room.
"Who is this ?" Minghao asked.
"Is this your boyfriend you told us about?" Soonyoung asked with a smile.
Wonwoo looked at Mingyu in alarm.
"Yes. This is Wonwoo hyung. I told you about him. " Mingyu said, clutching Wonwoo's hand.
Wonwoo blushed again, looking between Mingyu and his roommates.
"This is Soonyoung and Minghao, my roommates. " Mingyu said.
"Its nice to meet you. " Wonwoo said to his roommates waving.
"Would you like to wait here ? Why don't you sit here? I'll get you something to drink ."
"No, it's fine." Wonwoo said, sitting down on a chair.
"I'll be back in a minute. " Mingyu said, going to his room to change. Mingyu had already picked out what to wear, something casual.
Wonwoo nodded, looking at him.
Mingyu returned after changing. Wonwoo was talking to Minghao and Soonyoung. More like his roommates were talking to him.
"Let's go." Mingyu said, getting Wonwoo's attention.
"When are you coming back? Tonight or three days later ?" Soonyoung asked, grinning.
Wonwoo choked on air as Mingyu smirked at Soonyoung.
"It's just our second date." Mingyu said, patting Wonwoo's back.
They walked to Wonwoo's car.
"This is our first date though ?" Wonwoo said once he started the car.
"You waited that long to say that?" Mingyu laughed.
"Put your seatbelt." Wonwoo said shyly.
"We still have some time before the show. Why don't we have dinner first ?" Wonwoo asked.
They were currently somewhere in an area that Mingyu didn't recognize. They had passed by a lot of restaurants and Mingyu had asked Wonwoo to stop at a few.
But Wonwoo kept driving, telling him he knew a place. Mingyu was beginning to think that maybe Wonwoo was lost.
They finally stopped in front of what Mingyu assumed was a restaurant. They got out of the car and Mingyu blinked as Wonwoo gave the key to a valet. Right, he forgot.
"Wow, it seems like the kinda place that you have to wait months just to make a reservation. Are you sure they do walk ins? Maybe we should have just had dinner at that diner we passed by. " Mingyu said, leaning in.
Wonwoo smiled at him as he held out a hand for him. Mingyu stared at him in suprise. That was a first. Wonwoo was almost never the first one to make any move as far as knew. He took his hand, unsure.
Wonwoo led him inside.
"Is that english ? I don't think it is." Mingyu said, as he tried to read the restaurant's name.
"It's French. " Wonwoo said as they reached the reception desk.
"A reservation under Mr. Jeon Wonwoo. " Wonwoo said to the receptionist.
Mingyu laughed. They led them to their table.
"So it only takes three days to make a reservation?" Mingyu asked as he sat down. He had a hard time controlling his laughter.
"Yes. Though I had a hard time finding a restaurant with a name I hoped you couldn't pronounce. " Wonwoo said, smiling at him. Mingyu could see the tip of Wonwoo's ears turn pink.
"Why would you do that ?" Mingyu asked, confused.
"Because it's our first date." Wonwoo said, giving him the menu.
Mingyu raised an eyebrow but took the menu from him.
"What does that have to do with a French restaurant and a menu I can't even read, let alone order from? " Mingyu asked, as he flipped the menu.
"You don't remember ? First date at a fancy restaurant with a name you couldn't pronounce? Doesn't ring any bells?" Wonwoo asked, looking at him expectantly.
Mingyu stared at him, speechless. He was sure he was blushing. He hadn't expected Wonwoo to remember that story, it was just something he came up with.
"You planned this for me because of the story I told your parents." Mingyu said, with a smile.
Wonwoo shrugged, he was still smiling. Mingyu wanted to kiss him. Mingyu shook his head to fight the temptation.
"I think your idea is working perfectly. I can't read the menu." Mingyu said, laughing.
"To be honest with you, neither can I." Wonwoo said, laughing along.
"So what do we do?" Mingyu asked, peeking at Wonwoo from above his menu.
"Think of it as roulette, pick a random one and see what you get." Wonwoo said, grinning at him.
Mingyu couldn't take it, he buried his face in the menu.
They chose some random dishes to order. Mingyu didn't bother to even try to read it aloud, he just pointed it to the waiter.
"This is better than I expected. " Mingyu said, halfway through the dinner.
"Me too. " Wonwoo said.
"You're good at this. I didn't expect that either." Mingyu said.
"I'm good at everything." Wonwoo replied.
"Oh really?" Mingyu asked, his eyes roaming down Wonwoo.
"Mingyu." Wonwoo blushed and smacked Mingyu's hand.
"Why? what did I do?" Mingyu asked, faking his innocence.
"You know what you did." Wonwoo said pointedly.
Mingyu smiled mischievously, riling up Wonwoo was fun.
After dinner, they went to the theater. Mingyu waved when he noticed Wonwoo's cousin and his husband looking at them.
"Your cousin is here. Should we go say hello ?" Mingyu whispered when they sat down.
"The show is about to start and don't worry, they wouldn't let us leave without saying hello." Wonwoo whispered back.
Mingyu found himself immersed in the show as it went on.
"Did you like it ?" Wonwoo asked, leaning in after the show ended.
"Yeah. It was really good. " Mingyu said, getting up.
"Wonwoo, Mingyu how are you guys?" Seungcheol called them once they were outside the theater. As Wonwoo said, his cousin was waiting for him.
They greeted them. Mingyu noticed that Jeonghan was eyeing them weirdly.
"Mingyu, how have you been ? "
"It's only been three days since I last saw you all. I'm doing great." Mingyu said, he was feeling great. He looped his arm around wonwoo's arm.
"Mingyu, did you enjoy the show ?" Seungcheol asked.
"Yes, it was good. Did you guys enjoy it?" Mingyu said.
"Yeah. Do you wanna have dinner with us?" Jeonghan asked.
"No, we already had dinner on the way." Wonwoo said.
"Ah, that's unfortunate. I was hoping to spend more time with Mingyu." Jeonghan said.
"Wonwoo, I thought you won't make it tonight. Didn't you say you had a meeting or something? " Seungcheol asked.
" It got cancelled." Wonwoo said, quietly.
Mingyu could see he was lying. It was all over his face.
" Mingyu, I guess you got lucky. " Seungcheol said.
"I guess so, I didn't think he would show up either. " mingyu said, smiling.
Wonwoo denied feebly, saying he wasn't always like that.
"So, what are you guys upto? " Jeonghan asked, looking at Wonwoo.
Mingyu felt like something was off in the way Jeonghan was looking at him. Seungcheol must have noticed something too, he was staring at Jeonghan strangely.
"What? " Wonwoo asked.
"What are you guys doing after? " Jeonghan clarified. Seungcheol snickered and slapped Jeonghan's back lightly.
"I'm gonna drop Mingyu off and go home. "
"You're kidding me right? It's new year's eve." Seungcheol said, looking between Mingyu and Wonwoo.
"We didn't actually plan anything because Wonwoo hyung was busy. New year isn't that big of a deal." Mingyu said with a shrug.
"Darling, why don't you bring the car around?" Jeonghan said sending Seungcheol away after a while.
Seungcheol whined, but relented. He left after saying goodbye to them. Mingyu leaned on Wonwoo as he waved to Seungcheol.
"Ah, you don't have to pretend in front of me. I actually didn't expect to see Wonwoo here at all." Jeonghan said, pointing to them.
Mingyu blinked in confusion. He turned to Wonwoo. He didn't know if Wonwoo told Jeonghan about them but he looked shocked.
"Hyung-" Wonwoo started.
"Don't worry. I won't tell anyone. So you don't have to worry about putting on a show." Jeonghan said, gestured to their joined hands.
Mingyu tightened his grip on Wonwoo.
"We are not pretending . We are on a date." Mingyu said, smiling.
"Oh? You don't have to lie. I kinda overheard your conversation at the party. "
"So, you knew since then? Why didn't you say anything?" Wonwoo asked, a little frantic.
" Well, I could see you were doing your best. I didn't want to make things awkward. "
"It dosen't matter. I'm dating Mingyu now. For real. We aren't pretending." Wonwoo added.
"That's good to hear. Best of luck, Mingyu. You have to work a lot with this one. I'll see you both later. Now you don't have anymore reasons to avoid social gatherings, Wonwoo. " Jeonghan said, leaving them.
"Bye." Mingyu said, waving.
Mingyu turned to Wonwoo. He looked like he was still in shock.
"Hey, it's fine. He said he will keep it a secret. " Mingyu said, pulling Wonwoo along.
"It's fine. Let's go ." Wonwoo said, leading him to the car.
"It was nice of Jeonghan hyung to keep it a secret. Imagine if he told us he knew at the party, you would have freaked out. More than you were already freaking out ." Mingyu said once they were in the car.
"I wasn't freaking out. I was completely normal."
"Sure. You were literally shaking. Let's not forget the amount of times your brother had to ask if you were okay."
"Stop teasing me. " Wonwoo whined.
"Oh, by the way I ran into brother while I was hanging out with Dokyeom."
"Really? Did he say anything? Does he also know?"
"No. He asked me how you were and I told him you were too busy to even call me. He thinks that sounds like you. He even made excuses for you." Mingyu said, staring at him pointedly.
"Ah, I'm sorry about that. I really don't have an excuse. I wanted to call but you know..." wonwoo trailed off. He looked flustered.
"Oh my God, don't tell me that my kiss scared you away. It was just a peck. " Mingyu said, loving the way Wonwoo turned red.
"That's not it." Wonwoo stammered.
"Then what ?" Mingyu asked, leaning towards him.
"I was too nervous. I didn't know what to say. " Wonwoo said, looking down.
"Fine. You can make it up to me, hyung." Mingyu whispered suggestively.
"Mingyu!" Wonwoo gasped.
Mingyu laughed at his shock.
"I didn't say anything wrong." Mingyu mumbled.
"Your tone says otherwise. You only call me hyung when you want something. " Wonwoo complained.
"I didn't say anything wrong. You are the one thinking strange things. What are you even thinking of doing to me? " Mingyu teased, leaning away from Wonwoo.
"Then what did you mean by it ?"
"I just meant that you can take me on another date. But it seems like you have other ideas."
"I don't have any other ideas."
"Of course you don't. What am I talking about? You couldn't call me for three days because I kissed you. " Mingyu said laughing.
"That wasn't even a kiss." Wonwoo said defensively.
"And yet you lost your mind over that ." Mingyu said, still laughing.
Wonwoo leaned in, suprising him.
"What are you doing?" Mingyu asked, trying to control his laugh. Wonwoo was close enough for Mingyu to feel his breath on him.
"You can't intimidate me into silence." Mingyu said, leaning closer to Wonwoo.
Wonwoo pushed him back gently with a shove. Wonwoo's hand was pressed to his chest, keeping him in place. Mingyu swallowed, his heart racing. Wonwoo leaned in close until he could feel his breath on him. Mingyu eyes closed on their own accord.
Just as he felt Wonwoo's lips brush against his ears, Wonwoo moved away. Mingyu looked at him confused.
"Seatbelt. " Wonwoo said with a smug smile as he started the car.
"Hyung, that's a really old trick. " Mingyu complained, trying to calm down.
"You still fell for it. " Wonwoo teased.
It took them longer than Mingyu expected to reach his apartment. The traffic was bad and Wonwoo drove especially slow. Mingyu didn't want to comment on it and make it awkward. Wonwoo kept checking his phone every once in a while.
"We're here. " Wonwoo said, parking the car, in front of his apartment.
"Took you long enough. " Mingyu muttered to himself.
"What? " Wonwoo asked.
"Nothing. Doesn't this feel familiar? Mingyu asked, smiling at the memory that rose up.
"Oh, no. Am I forgetting something? " Wonwoo said, looking around.
"It's nothing. "Mingyu said, disappointed.
Wonwoo checked his phone again.
" Is something wrong? You keep checking your phone ." Mingyu said.
"It's nothing. " Wonwoo said, checking his phone again.
" Listen, If you have any work, we can-"
Mingyu paused as Wonwoo's phone chimed.
Mingyu glared at him.
" If you have important work, we can always-"
"Let me take this call. It's important." Wonwoo said, getting out of the car.
Mingyu fell back in his seat, shocked. If it was really an emergency, Wonwoo could have told him to take a cab. He didn't have to be rude.
Mingyu checked his phone. There was a message from Dokyeom asking if Wonwoo showed up. And one from Minghao asking when he'll be back.
Mingyu typed out a reply that he will be up in a few minutes.
Wonwoo opened the car door. Mingyu turned away from him and chose to ignore him.
"Mingyu. I'm really sorry. I just had to take it."
"That's what I am saying. If it was that important why didn't you say anything soon-" Mingyu said turning around but paused when he saw the flowers Wonwoo was holding.
Wonwoo held out the flowers to Mingyu.
" This is what you had to take? The important thing-" Mingyu asked, taking the flowers.
Wonwoo leaned forward and kissed him softly, cutting him off. Mingyu gasped with wide eyes, he wasn't expecting Wonwoo to do this. It was one surprise after the other and Mingyu's heart couldn't take it.
" Happy new year, Mingyu." Wonwoo whispered, leaning back.
Mingyu blinked at him, shocked.
Wonwoo smiled at him, cheeks red.
"You planned this. This entire night. You planned it like this. This is why you were driving so slow. " Mingyu said in disbelief.
Wonwoo kissed him again. This time Mingyu was prepared. He took off his seatbelt and leaned further. Mingyu placed his hands on Wonwoo's shoulder, slowly feeling his way down.
Wonwoo pulled away, flustered. Wonwoo stooped him with a hand on his chest, leaning away from him.
"Scared already? " Mingyu taunted. He hoped he didn't scare him away. Maybe it was too fast for Wonwoo. Mingyu should have been careful but he slipped.
"Just surprised." Wonwoo said, sitting back in his seat properly.
"You sure? You look out of sorts. " Mingyu said, leaning back in his seat.
"You should look in the mirror, Mingyu. You aren't any better. " Wonwoo said, with a teasing smile.
Mingyu huffed. Wonwoo laughed, ruffling Mingyu's hair.
" Hyung, happy new year." Mingyu said, grinning.
"So, Did you have fun today? " Wonwoo asked, looking shy.
"Yes, I had lots of fun. Thank you for today. "
"It's late. You should go in." Wonwoo said.
Mingyu nodded.
"I'll see you later, Mingyu. Call me when you are free. " Wonwoo said.
Mingyu gave him a peck on his lips. He got out the car and waved to Wonwoo as he stepped into the building.
Wonwoo was still smiling at him. Mingyu took out his phone and called him.
Mingyu saw Wonwoo laugh as looked at his phone.
"Go inside Mingyu. " Wonwoo said, laughter still evident in his voice.
"After you leave. I'll see you off. "
"Get inside. I bet you are cold. " Wonwoo said.
" Okay, I will. When can I see you again?"
"Will tomorrow be too soon? " Wonwoo asked.
"No. "
" Lunch then? "
" Okay. Also, you don't have to pick me up. Send me the address. " Mingyu said. He didn't want Wonwoo to drive him back and forth when he must be busy with work.
"Okay. Good night. Go up. " Wonwoo said.
Mingyu caught his reflection on the elevator door as it closed. He was smiling like a fool yet he couldn't stop it. He hugged the flowers again.
Mingyu couldn't contain his excitement. He wondered how he was supposed to sleep now, he was already thinking about meeting Wonwoo tomorrow.
Mingyu met up with Wonwoo on the afternoon and two days after that, they went to a park.
Mingyu's classes were starting today and he was sad he wouldn't be able to spend time with Wonwoo.
Mingyu had a class at ten. So he got up at nine thirty and got ready. There was a text from Wonwoo wishing him luck.
'Good luck on your first day'
Mingyu laughed before typing out a reply.
' It's not like it's my first day at the university. '
'Don't you have a morning class? Shouldn't you be leaving? '
' Hyung, how do you know I haven't left yet? '
' I've been waiting here for an hour and there's no way you left that early. '
'you are here?? why didn't you just call me?!? I'll be down in a minute. '
'Take your time '
Mingyu rushed out of his room, grabbing his bag.
"Slow down Mingyu. " Soonyoung said as Mingyu almost crashed into him on his way out.
"I'll see you guys later." Mingyu yelled out, running out.
Mingyu spotted Wonwoo standing near his car. Wonwoo waved when he saw him.
Mingyu ran to him and crushed him in a hug.
"Good morning. " Wonwoo said, fixing Mingyu's hair.
"Good morning." Mingyu said, smiling down at Wonwoo.
Wonwoo opened the door for him and handed him coffee as he sat inside.
" You're the best boyfriend ever. " Mingyu said taking a sip.
"It's just coffee. "
"Won't you be late for work? " Mingyu asked.
"It's fine. I don't have anything scheduled for the morning. " Wonwoo said.
"You can just drop me off at the subway, hyung. "
" I can just drop you off at your university. "
Mingyu smiled at that.
Wonwoo was sweeter than had Mingyu had expected him to be and he loved it. Wonwoo made time to be with him even when Mingyu thought Wonwoo would say he was busy. Wonwoo texted him good morning and good night everyday for the past two weeks since their first date. Seeing Wonwoo's messages always put Mingyu in a good mood.
Mingyu kissed him when Wonwoo dropped him off at the entrance.
" Are you free tonight? "
"No. There will probably be a party. I will text you later."
"Don't stay out too late. " Wonwoo said.
"Okay, baby. " Mingyu said.
Wonwoo gave him a weird look.
"No? " Mingyu asked.
Wonwoo shook his head.
"Okay, hyung. I will call you later. " Mingyu laughed and left for class.
Mingyu's phone started chiming. He took it out and saw it was his class group chat blowing up.
Mingyu scrolled up, he can see it was about him.
There was a picture of him getting out of Wonwoo's car. Mingyu was thankful that Wonwoo wasn't seen in the picture.
Mingyu looked around and spotted a few of his classmates standing near the main building.
He waved, quickly walking to them.
"Kim Mingyu. Who was that? " One of his classmates asked him as they gathered round.
" My boyfriend. "
"Oh, looks like you snagged someone rich this time. "
It irked Mingyu but he laughed it off. He was used to this. Nothing good will come out of it if he called them out on it.
"Let's go or else we'll be late. " Mingyu said, urging his classmates.
Wonwoo had texted Mingyu at seven asking if he was going to a party.
Mingyu replied that he had no other choice and that he had to go. If he didn't they would pester him to no end.
'Okay. Don't stay out too late and drink moderately. Call me when you get home. '
Mingyu smiled as he read Wonwoo's message. Mingyu wanted to call him but he didn't want to disturb him while he was working.
"Mingyu, here. " Jisung called, as he called Mingyu over to their table.
"You guys are all here? " Mingyu asked, sitting next to him.
"You're the one who's late. " Heemin said, pouring him a drink.
Mingyu gave her a smile before he knocked down the alcohol. The rest of the night was blur of alcohol and games.
Mingyu woke up next morning with a splitting headache. He felt like he was still drunk.
"Looks like you're finally awake." Soonyoung said, as Mingyu walked into the living room.
"Don't you have classes? " Mingyu asked, closing his hands over his ears.
"Afternoon classes. What about you?" Soonyoung asked.
"Same. Minghao?"
"He left. Do you remember what happened last night? " Soonyoung asked with a freaky smile.
"Sort of. I remember drinking with my friends but I don't remember how I got home. Was it Heemin or Jisung this time?" Mingyu said, drinking some water.
"You really don't remember who brought you home? "
"If I knew, would I be asking you?"
"Wonwoo brought you home last night. " Soonyoung said, smiling at him.
Mingyu choked on water and coughed. He stood there for a few moments before he rushed off to find his phone. He checked the call log and collapsed to the floor. He had called Wonwoo at one in the morning. He clicked on his name. The call had lasted for thirty eight minutes. He was screwed. He didn't even remember calling him, he had no idea what he said to Wonwoo.
Mingyu stared at the log for a while as the situation slowly sunk in. He picked up whatever courage he had and called Wonwoo.
Wonwoo picked it up after a few rings.
"Mingyu, can I call you back? I'm in a meeting. " Wonwoo said.
"Yeah. " Mingyu said and ended the call.
"You should eat something." Soonyoung called from the living room.
Mingyu stared at his phone for a while. He hoped he hadn't embarassed himself in front of Wonwoo.
Mingyu took a shower and was halfway through his breakfast when Wonwoo called back. Mingyu picked it up as soon as he saw the caller id.
"Wonwoo hyung, about last night -" Mingyu started.
"Mingyu, How are you feeling? " Wonwoo asked, cutting him off. He didn't sound angry. Mingyu almost sighed in relief.
"I'm fine, hyung. Just a little headache. " Mingyu said.
"Make sure to eat something and take your medicines. I left it on your table. " Wonwoo said.
"Hyung, I'm sorry about last night. I called you that late and disturbed you. I tried to leave but my friends wouldn't let me and then I got too drunk. " Mingyu rambled.
"You don't remember what happened last night, do you? " Wonwoo asked, stopping Mingyu's ramblings.
"No. Hyung, I did something wrong, didn't I? What is it? Hyung, please tell me what I said on the call last night." Mingyu asked frantically.
"Mingyu, relax. You didn't do anything wrong. You were just drunk." Wonwoo said.
"Hyung, I'm sorry for whatever trouble I caused last night."
"Hey, Nothing happened last night. You don't have to apologize. It was actually fun watching you in that state. You were so cute. " Wonwoo said.
"oh my god! What did I do? "
"Don't worry about last night." Wonwoo said.
"How can I not worry? I feel like you're not telling me something on purpose. "
"Don't you have classes? What are you gonna do? "
" I only have afternoon classes. "
" Should I come and drop you off ?"
"No, hyung. You're probably busy. You don't have to. "
"But I want to see you, Mingyu. I'll be there in two hours. Will that work?" Wonwoo said.
"Hmm. Yeah. "
" I'll see you later, Mingyu. I have to go now. "
"Okay hyung. Bye. " Mingyu said, ending the call.
Mingyu scrolled through his phone, there were several messages from his friends. He ignored most of them. He froze as he saw Wonwoo's name on the chat list. There it was again, the good morning message. He clicked on it and almost dropped his phone. He had sent a lot of pictures to Wonwoo from last night. Most of it was too blurry to see anything clearly but there were a few selfies of him with his friends.
Even though Wonwoo had told him it was okay, Mingyu felt guilty that he had disturbed in the dead of the night.
Mingyu was already waiting downstairs when Wonwoo called him.
"What is that? " Wonwoo asked as he noticed him.
" Just something I cooked for you. You can just heat it up again before eating. " Mingyu said, handing Wonwoo the box in his hand.
Wonwoo got it from his hand, pressing a kiss to Mingyu's lips. Mingyu stared at him in shock. He looked around but thankfully there wasn't anyone around.
" How's your headache? " Wonwoo asked, smiling at him.
" I'm fine. Hyung, about last night- "
"Mingyu, you didn't make any mistakes. You just introduced your friends to me and then I drove you home. That's all. "
"Okay. "
"Stop sulking, Mingyu. It doesn't suit you." Wonwoo said patting his back.
Mingyu was relieved that Wonwoo wasn't mad at him for last night. Now that one of his problems had resolved, he stepped into his class, facing the other thirty five.
Everyone had questions for Mingyu. Why did he leave so early? Where did he go? Who was the one who picked him up? How long was he dating him?
Mingyu was grateful when the class started. He could only dodge so many questions. Somehow, only a few of them had actually seen Wonwoo. Mingyu had remembered flashes of what happened and cringed realising he had said such things to Wonwoo.
Mingyu called Wonwoo again but he didn't pick up. Mingyu left to his work after classes ended. He had managed to slip away from his friends without answering their questions.
"Hyung, you said I didn't say anything weird to you last night. " Mingyu complained as soon as Wonwoo picked up.
"Did you finally remember?" Wonwoo asked, laughing.
"Not everything. You lied to me. That was a mistake, okay? I didn't mean it. " Mingyu said, defensively.
"Which one you didn't mean? The part where you said you missed me or the part where you explained in detail why you like me? " Wonwoo asked, laughter still in his voice.
"Promise me you'll forget everything I said when I was drunk. "
"why? You were so cute."
"You mean cringy. You're just laughing at me."
"I thought you were cute. You were funny but don't drink too much. It's not good for your health. "
"Are you being concerned about me?"
"Of course, I am. "
"Stop being so sweet."
"Are you going out tonight? "
"Nope, I have work. I'll call you later, hyung. "
"Okay. "
Mingyu was surprised to see Dokyeom at the cafe.
"Hey, Mingyu. "
"hey dude, what's up? "
"I was just around here. You done yet? " Dokyeom said, smiling at him.
" Almost. Just a few more minutes then I'll be done with my shift. "
"Then, I'll wait for you. " Dokyeom said and moved to sit at one of the tables in the back.
When Mingyu's shift ended, he joined Dokyeom.
"So, how are classes going? " Mingyu asked.
"It's going fine. Are you going to classes regularly? "
"Of course." Mingyu said, laughing. He didn't skip classes often. He just did it when he didn't feel like going.
"You know you're really popular at the university. " Dokyeom said, out of nowhere.
"Not you too. What weird rumour is it this time? " Mingyu asked, sighing.
Mingyu was used to being a recurring topic in the university community board. Almost all of his relationship dramas were open to the public. He had hated it at first but as time went on he had no choice but to just let it go. Every time he asked someone to take down a post about him, ten more popped up as to why that post went down. He had stopped responding long way back.
"I didn't know you were still talking to Wonwoo hyung. " Dokyeom said, looking at him.
"Yeah, about that. We're dating. " Mingyu said, watching as Dokyeom's eyes went wide.
"And you didn't tell me? " Dokyeom yelled, hitting his arm.
Mingyu shushed him. They were still inside the cafe.
"I totally forgot to tell you. Sorry. " Mingyu said.
"Since when? "
"Since new year. "
"Wow, that was three weeks ago." Dokyeom huffed.
"I know. It just happened and then I was busy dealing with other things. "
"You know, I was so shocked when I saw the post in the board with you and Wonwoo hyung. I thought you were just dating someone from your department and that's why everyone was making such a fuss. "
"Hyung came to pick me up last night from the party and that ended up being the hot topic of the day. I wish everyone would stop. My phone's blowing up with messages. It wasn't even this bad when I was dating Heena."
"Does Wonwoo hyung know about this? There was a lot of comments calling him your sugar daddy. "
"No and I'm not gonna tell him about it. It's just silly. They'll move on to the next person soon. "
"How is Wonwoo hyung? "
"Surprisingly warm. He dropped me off today too. I thought he'd be mad about last night but he was cool about it. He even left me medicine for headache. He's so sweet. "
"Wonwoo hyung is a good person. He's really caring though he doesn't look like it. "
"Stop. I can see where you're going with that. " Mingyu said, scrunching his nose.
Dokyeom was one of Mingyu's closest friends and he knew all of his relationships. He wouldn't be wrong in judging Mingyu for it but he hoped atleast his friends didn't see him like everyone else did.
"I'm not going anywhere with it. Just be good to him. He must really like you if he's treating you like this. "
"I'm not playing around, Dokyeom. I really like him too. "
"You met him a month ago. "
"He met me a month ago too. I'm serious this time. "
"That's what you say everytime. "
"Well, contrary to the popular belief, I don't play around with people, Dokyeom. I am hoping this time it will work out. "
"Does Wonwoo hyung know you used to date girls? "
"He does. Why are you only worried about him? I'm your friend too. " Mingyu whined.
"Because it's probably Wonwoo hyung's first relationship and I'm the one who introduced you to him. "
"So he wasn't lying when he said that he doesn't have any experience."
" Take it slow, okay. " Dokyeom said, with exaggerated concern.
"Stay out of my relationship, dude. I'm not gonna break his heart or something. " Mingyu said, pushing him away.
Dokyeom laughed at him.
"You don't know how many hearts you're breaking just by being in this relationship. " Dokyeom said in between laughter.
Mingyu scoffed.
"Dude, really. You should read the comment section. Me and Shua hyung had lots of fun going through it. "
"I'm glad my misfortunes amuse you and your boyfriend." Mingyu said.
"It's me and my fiancé now." Dokyeom said, showing off his ring.
"Oh my god! Congratulations. When did this happen? Why didn't you tell me sooner? "Mingyu said, loud and happy.
They got strange looks from the people. Mingyu apologized and turned back to Dokyeom.
"So, when did he propose? "
"New Year. Shua hyung proposed to me after dinner. It was so amazing. Ah, Mingyu." Dokyeom said, as if he couldn't contain his joy.
Mingyu smiled at him excitedly. They caught up some more and Dokyeom invited him to the engagement party.
"So when are you meeting Wonwoo hyung, again?" Dokyeom asked.
"Why? " Mingyu asked.
"Let's hang out together. "
"I think I'll pass. "
"Come on, let's do a double date. I can't do it with anyone else. Jeonghan hyung won't say yes either. " Dokyeom said, pulling at his hands.
"Nope. I'm leaving, bye." Mingyu said, leaving him alone.
"Wait for me. " Dokyeom called out as he ran to him.
Mingyu hung around with him at Dokyeom's apartment for a while before leaving for home.
The next two weeks were hectic as Mingyu prepared for the cultural festival with his classmates. The rumours had finally quieted down.
Mingyu barely had any free time between classes, his work and the festival preparation. When he had first thought of dating Wonwoo, he was ready for Wonwoo to be busy to make time for him. He hadn't expected himself to be the one who couldn't make it to their dates. He felt bad that he couldn't spend time with Wonwoo even though Wonwoo told him not to worry about it.
Mingyu had invited Wonwoo to the festival that was happening in the campus. Wonwoo had said he'll come but Mingyu had been waiting for him for an hour with no word from Wonwoo. He didn't pick up Mingyu's call either. The sun went down and the festival didn't seem like it would die down any time soon.
" Mingyu, what are you doing here? Jisung is looking for you everywhere. Shouldn't you be at the booth?" One of his classmates asked, grabbing him.
Mingyu cursed as he saw the time. It was his turn to manage the booth. He had five missed calls from Jisung. He should have been there ten minutes ago but he had lost track of time waiting for Wonwoo.
"I'll go there right away. " Mingyu said, running back to his booth.
Mingyu made some feeble excuses as he got chewed out by Jisung for being late.
"Where's Minhee? Shouldn't she be here too? " Mingyu asked.
"She'll come. You stay here. We need you for people to actually come here. So many students already came looking for you. "
Mingyu glared at him, but Jisung just smiled at him.
"Now just stand there and keep smiling. "
Mingyu glared at him again.
"Or just glare at them. It works too. " Jisung said as he took a photo of him.
Mingyu kept smiling as students came to their booth. He knew some of them by name and others he recognized from department parties.
"Mingyu oppa, will you take a photo with us? " one of his Juniors asked, as she pulled at his hand.
It was not the first time someone had requested it this night and Mingyu was getting tired of it.
"I'll take the photo. Mingyu here hold this. " Minhee said, handing him a heart shaped balloon. She smiled delightfuly, she was enjoying his obvious torment.
Mingyu smiled as he stood between Heejin and Siyeon. Two more girls he didn't recognize joined them. Mingyu smiled clutching the balloon as Heejin and Siyeon looped thier arm around his. Mingyu bent down until he was in the shot.
"Say cheese. " Minhee said, as she took the photo.
"Take another one, I think I closed my eyes. " Siyeon said.
"Okay. Stay right there. I'll take another one. " Minhee said and turned around as someone walked in. She said something to the person and turned back.
"Say cheese. " Minhee said.
Mingyu eyes focused on the newcomer. The balloon in his hands burst as he accidentally crushed it.
Wonwoo laughed as he waved to him. Mingyu blinked as he looked at him. Wonwoo looked so out of place in the suit he was wearing but he looked so good that Mingyu didn't wanna take his eyes off him. He could see the other students trying to get a look at Wonwoo .
The girls complained about the balloon, wanting to take the photo again but Mingyu moved away.
"Hey." Mingyu said, walking to Wonwoo.
"Hi, Sorry I'm late. Work got in the way." Wonwoo said smiling.
Mingyu forgave him easily. It wasn't even Wonwoo's fault.
"It's alright. You look handsome. You didn't have to dress up." Mingyu said, pointing to his clothes.
Wonwoo looked down with a small smile.
" You look good too. " Wonwoo said.
"Kim Mingyu." Minhee called out.
"You look busy. I can wait. " Wonwoo said, pointing to the line.
"I'll be done in a few minutes. It won't take too long. " Mingyu said, scratching his ears.
"Mingyu, who's this?" Minhee asked as she came to them.
"This is Wonwoo, my boyfriend. Hyung, this is Minhee, she's -" Mingyu said.
"I'm his ex. " Minhee cut in, extending her hand.
"Hi. " Wonwoo said, taking her hand.
Mingyu smiled nervously. He was gonna gloss her over as a friend but it looked like she had other plans.
"Do you two wanna take a photo? " Minhee asked, pointing to the booth.
"Sure. Mingyu oppa, will you take a photo with me? " Wonwoo whispered as he walked past him. His tone imitating Heejin.
Mingyu blushed as they chose the props.
"How long were you standing here?" Mingyu asked.
"Long enough."
"You should have called me."
"I didn't want to disturb you. You were busy with the booth. I didn't know you were this popular." Wonwoo said, smiling.
"Stop teasing me. " Mingyu said, nudging him.
Wonwoo picked up a flower crown and placed it on Mingyu's head. Mingyu smiled as he chose a headband for him with a red bow.
"Say cheese. "
Wonwoo put his arms around him and pulled him closer. Mingyu giggled leaning on Wonwoo's shoulder. Minhee took the photo with a sigh.
"I'll print these later. Can you wait for a few more minutes?" Mingyu asked.
"Okay. Take your time. " Wonwoo said, watching him.
"Your new boyfriend seems sweet. Looks like you've found a good one." Minhee said, once Wonwoo was out of hearing distance.
"He is. I got lucky. " Mingyu said, smiling at Wonwoo.
Though Mingyu had told Wonwoo to look around, he waited until Mingyu was done with his booth.
Mingyu took him around the campus, showing him the various booths. They ate at the Joseon themed restaurant by the history department. They walked around for a while.
Mingyu spoke to few of his juniors as they greeted him. Thankfully no one brought up Wonwoo, who looked glad to be ignored by them.
"Hyung, let's try that one. " Mingyu said, pulling Wonwoo towards a stall with some games.
"Okay. " Wonwoo said, laughing as he followed Mingyu.
"Oh, Mingyu. Come on in. " Jinah called him as soon as she saw them walking to the booth. Jinah was his friend from the literature department.
"Hey, how is it going? " mingyu asked.
"We've been busy. How's your booth doing? " Jinah asked, with a smile.
"We're doing just fine. "
"What are you doing here? " Jinah asked, eyeing Wonwoo.
"We're here to play. " Wonwoo said, stepping in.
"These are for couples. " one of the guys in the booth said, smiling. The others around him snickered.
"Yeah, we know. " Mingyu said, intertwining his fingers with Wonwoo.
"So you have to pop at least three balloons within twenty seconds. If you win, you get a gift." Jinah explained, giving Wonwoo a once over.
Mingyu was begining to think maybe this was a bad idea. Wonwoo looked like he came straight out of a movie, with his handsome face and perfect build.
Wonwoo took off his coat as he stepped closer. Mingyu's mouth went dry. It was unfair to everyone how Wonwoo had broad shoulders that magically tapered into a thin waist. Mingyu should have left this place and taken him somewhere else.
"Mingyu, are you listening?" Wonwoo asked, waving his hand in front of him.
"Yes. What? " Mingyu said, looking at him.
Wonwoo laughed, putting his hand on his shoulder.
"Where should I hold you? " Wonwoo
whispered.
"Just put your arms around me and push as hard as you can. " Mingyu said.
Wonwoo wrapped his arms around him.
"One, two, three. Go. "
Mingyu grabbed a balloon and kept it between them. He grabbed Wonwoo's waist. He wasn't gonna get another chance anytime soon, so he made use of it. Mingyu pulled Wonwoo to him. The balloon burst with a loud pop. Mingyu frantically took the next one and did the same. The third balloon took some time but they did it before time ran out.
Mingyu jumped, laughing. Wonwoo was still holding his hand, watching him quietly. He could hear the other people cheering. They had attracted a small crowd.
"You won. Pick one from here. " Jinah said.
Mingyu picked up a stuffed fox. He shook it to show it Wonwoo who was smiling at him now.
"Looks like your tastes has changed, Mingyu." someone said from the crowd. Mingyu's face fell as he recognized the voice. Now was definitely not a good time. He was just starting to have fun.
"Is something wrong ?" Wonwoo asked, taking his hand.
Mingyu shook his head, looking down.
"Let's go. " Wonwoo said, leading them away.
Mingyu waved to Jinah before leaving.
"Mingyu, why are you running away?" Taeho asked, coming around them.
"What do you want Taeho?" Mingyu asked, glaring at him.
"What? Come on man, can't you say hello for old times sake? We used to date." Taeho asked.
"Hi, I really wish I hadn't run into you. There. Go away. " Mingyu said, annoyed. Wonwoo squeezed his hand lightly. Mingyu squeezed back.
"That's it? Introduce me to your friend? Is that your sugar daddy everyone is talking about? " Taeho asked, looking at Wonwoo.
"Shut up. " Mingyu warned, pushing ahead of Taeho.
"Mingyu. " Wonwoo called, as Mingyu dragged him away.
"Don't leave so soon. Let's have some fun. Your friend can join too. " Taeho said, loud enough for others around them to hear. He sounded very drunk.
Mingyu wanted to punch him. They had went on two dates before mingyu realized Taeho was a two timing bastard who had been lying to him since the start. It was the shortest relationship he ever had. Mingyu had ignored him after that.
Mingyu took a step back, ready to throw the punch he very much wanted to. Wonwoo stopped him, placing a hand on his shoulder. Mingyu turned to look at Wonwoo. Mingyu hadn't thought of how Wonwoo might feel about these things.
Mingyu looked at Wonwoo but Wonwoo was glaring at Taeho who had suddenly gone quiet. Mingyu stared at Wonwoo, He looked like a different person.
Wonwoo took a step forward, his eyes dark. Mingyu watched, not saying anything. Wonwoo was stepping in for him but Mingyu was too dumbstruck to notice anything but Wonwoo. Taeho shrugged, taking a step back.
"Let's go, Mingyu." Wonwoo said, leading Mingyu away. He didn't let go until they were near his car.
"Get in. " Wonwoo said, opening the door. Mingyu got in the passenger seat without a word.
"Hyung, I'm really sorry about that. He usually just ignores me. " Mingyu started. He had no idea what to say but he figured starting with an apology might be the right thing.
"Don't apologize. It's not your fault. Are you okay? " Wonwoo asked, looking at him.
Wonwoo was back to his usual self. There was no trace of anything that happened a few minutes ago.
"I'm okay, hyung. Are you okay? I really didn't think we'd run into these kinda problem. I shouldn't have made you come here." Mingyu said, looking down.
Mingyu couldn't meet his eyes. He was still figuring whether he should be feeling bad about what happened with Taeho or whatever he felt when he saw Wonwoo glaring at him. Maybe he was bit ashamed that his body was too honest.
"Mingyu, look at me. I had a good time today until that happened.. I'm glad I came here today. I had fun. It was nice meeting your other friends. " Wonwoo said, tugging at Mingyu to look at him.
Mingyu took Wonwoo's coat from the back seat where Wonwoo had dropped it.
"Put it on. You'll get cold." Mingyu muttered, giving the coat to Wonwoo. It was too distracting, he couldn't focus.
Wonwoo laughed as he took it from him.
"You seem to know everyone. " Wonwoo commented.
Mingyu turned to look at him.
"So, I'm your sugar daddy? " Wonwoo teased, the laughter in his voice barely controlled.
"Stop, hyung. I already hear it enough from my classmates. " Mingyu said.
"I'm not old enough to be your father, Mingyu. " Wonwoo said, not even trying to control his laughter.
Mingyu laughed, despite himself.
"It's not funny. " Mingyu muttered.
"You're still laughing. " Wonwoo said.
"I'm not. " Mingyu said, turning away.
"Why didn't tell me anything? It must have been going on for a while. " Wonwoo asked, pulling Mingyu to look at him.
"What? About the gossip? That's how college students are hyung. They'll be bored of it in a few days. Don't worry about it. It's nothing I can't handle. " Mingyu said with a smile.
"Okay. " Wonwoo said, but he didn't sound convinced.
"Hyung, put your coat on. How can you just take it off like that? " Mingyu said, hoping Wonwoo didn't notice the blush on his face.
"Why? Is it distracting? " Wonwoo teased.
"Do you have any idea how handsome you are? Everyone was staring at you. That shirt is too tight. "
"You think it looks hot? " Wonwoo asked, still teasing him.
"Of course. Hyung you look so hot. I know it is supposed to be a serious mood or something but I couldn't see anything other than you. Earlier too. You look so sexy when you are angry."
" Mingyu!" Wonwoo exclaimed, blushing.
"Sorry. " Mingyu said sheepishly.
Wonwoo shook his head and turned to look at him. Mingyu stared at him and leaned back in his seat. It felt good to get it off his chest with bonus points for making Wonwoo blush.
Wonwoo leaned to him, moving closer.
"I'm not falling for this trick again. " Mingyu said, remembering their first date.
Wonwoo kissed him gently before moving away. Mingyu smiled, surprised by Wonwoo's sudden kiss.
"It's not a trick, Mingyu." Wonwoo said, smirking.
Mingyu hid his face in his hands.
"How long are we going to sit in this parking lot?" Mingyu asked after a while.
"Where do you want to go?" Wonwoo asked.
"That sounds like I have options."
"Well, I can take you to your apartment...or.. we can go to my house ?" Wonwoo asked, looking suprised at his own question.
Mingyu laughed.
"Your apartment it is. Forget I ever said anything. " Wonwoo said, starting the car.
"No, no. I want to see your house. Take me there, hyung."
"There you go. You are doing it again. "
"Hyung, I'm not doing anything." Mingyu whined.
"Fine. " Wonwoo said.
Mingyu tried hard not to stare at Wonwoo as he drove. It was a night of surprises and Mingyu was still giddy from the last one. He caught himself grinning and closed his hand around his mouth. His heart was racing.
Wonwoo was quiet but restless through the ride. Wonwoo sneaked glances once in a while, but turned away when Mingyu caught him.
"So, this is where you live ?" Mingyu asked, as they got out of the car.
"Yes. You sound disappointed. " Wonwoo noted.
"I thought you'd be living in a penthouse or something." Mingyu said, scratching his ear.
Wonwoo laughed as he let him inside his house.
It was a two story house. It wasn't too small or too big.
Mingyu had expected it to be the same as his parents house. He was delightfully surprised to see the clutter of Wonwoo's house.
Mingyu followed patiently as Wonwoo gave him a small tour of the house. But on the inside his heart was pounding. Maybe he shouldn't have been so eager to come here.
"Do you want something to drink? Coffee?" Wonwoo asked once they were back in the living room. He could hear the nervousness in his voice.
"Coffee? At this hour ?" Mingyu asked, laughing.
"Water?" Wonwoo asked, almost running to the kitchen.
"Don't run away." Mingyu followed after him, laughing.
"Do you want something to eat?" Wonwoo asked, opening the fridge. Wonwoo paused for a few seconds. Mingyu walked to him and leaned over Wonwoo's shoulder to see what was wrong.
"There's nothing in here." Mingyu said smiling. He looped his hand around Wonwoo's middle and pulled him away. He nudged the fridge close.
"I don't usually cook, that's why it's like this." Wonwoo made an excuse, trying to wriggle out of Mingyu's hold.
"How do you even live like this?" Mingyu asked, snuggling up to Wonwoo.
"What's wrong with that?" Wonwoo asked, trying to be defensive but he started giggling as Mingyu tickled him.
"Stop it." Wonwoo said, pushing Mingyu away.
"You're so cute, hyung." Mingyu whispered.
"Stop it, Mingyu. " Wonwoo said, laughing.
Mingyu stepped away, laughing. Wonwoo turned around to look at him.
"You're really something Mingyu." Wonwoo said, grabbing his shirt to pull him closer.
"That's a horrible way of complimenting someone. " Mingyu said, leaning down.
Mingyu wanted to know what Wonwoo would do. The closeness was driving him crazy and he didn't want to make any mistakes.
"That wasn't a compliment." Wonwoo said, slipping away from him.
Mingyu followed him to the living room.
"So, that's all there is to see." Wonwoo said, dropping onto the couch.
Mingyu stared at Wonwoo, he was just sitting there, looking at him to join him.
"Well, I like what I see." Mingyu said, eyes trained on Wonwoo.
"Oh, why don't you come here and take a closer look." Wonwoo said, patting the space next to him.
Mingyu cocked his head to the side, Wonwoo was trying hard to get away from him a few seconds ago and now he was taunting him.
Mingyu laughed as Wonwoo hid his face as if he just realized what he said. He sat on the couch, next to Wonwoo.
"So, am I only allowed to look or?" Mingyu whispered, leaning in.
Wonwoo turned to him, his eyes wide. Mingyu moved back, giving wonwyoo a way out. He wanted to do something reckless, it was taking everything in him to control himself.
Wonwoo kissed him slowly, as if he was answering his question. Mingyu wrapped his around arms Wonwoo, pulling him until they were pressed to each other. He kissed Wonwoo back, hurriedly. He didn't have the kinda patience Wonwoo had.
"I think you're going to suffocate me." Wonwoo breathed out as they pulled away.
Mingyu laughed, pulling Wonwoo to him.
"Won't your roommates worry if you don't go home? They seemed a little protective towards you." Wonwoo asked, looking at him.
"Seriously, you bring them up now? I'm right here in your arms and you're asking about my roommates?" Mingyu grumbled.
Wonwoo laughed.
"Are you trying to kick me out right now?" Mingyu asked. He couldn't stop the laughter though he tried.
"You can stay if you want." Wonwoo said, kissing his shoulder.
"What do you want, hyung?" Mingyu asked, putting as much innuendo as he could into that sentence.
Wonwoo laughed again and ruffled his hair.
Mingyu looked at him, feeling grumpy that his teasing didn't have any effect on him.
"Do you really want me to leave? It really sounds like you're kicking me out politely. Is it because of what happened with that jerk? " Mingyu asked, looking at Wonwoo.
"No. I want you here, Mingyu. I wouldn't have suggested my place If I didn't want you here."
"You want me here ?"
"Yes. I want to sleep with you."
Mingyu coughed.
"Hyung."
"Not like that. Stop thinking weird things. Like before. I just wanted to sleep next to you. "
"You clearly said 'with you' before."
"You sure you didn't hear it wrong?"
"Since when were you this confident?"
"I've always been-"
Mingyu kissed him, not letting him finish the sentence. Wonwoo gasped against his lips.
Wonwoo's hand slipped under Mingyu's tshirt. Mingyu shivered, Wonwoo's hands were cold on his skin.
"Your hands are so cold." Mingyu said, pulling away from Wonwoo's lips.
Wonwoo laughed before he pulled Mingyu down. Mingyu's fingers did quick work of unbuttoning Wonwoo's shirt.
Mingyu kissed Wonwoo's neck, his hands exploring Wonwoo's skin. Mingyu paused when he heard the doorbell. Mingyu looked at Wonwoo.
The doorbell rang again followed by someone banging on the door.
Mingyu moved away to let Wonwoo up.
"Were you expecting someone ?" Mingyu asked.
"No." Wonwoo answered, buttoning up his shirt.
Mingyu watched as Wonwoo went to the door.
Someone was yelling as they walked into the living room and paused as they saw Mingyu.
"Who are you ?" The guy asked.
Mingyu looked to Wonwoo.
"This is Mingyu, my boyfriend And this is Jihoon, my friend. " Wonwoo introduced them.
"So this is Mingyu. What's he doing here?" Jihoon asked, moving to Wonwoo's kitchen. It seemed Jihoon was familiar with Wonwoo's apartment.
"What are you doing here? No, don't open the fridge. There's nothing in there. " Wonwoo said, sitting next to Mingyu.
Mingyu looked at Wonwoo, unsure of what he should do. Wonwoo reached over and fixed Mingyu's hair.
"Ah, didn't you hear anything I just said? Like some stupid kid picked a fight with me. He called me a middle schooler. That bastard. If I ever find him again, I'm going to break his leg." Jihoon said, returning to the living room empty handed.
"Jihoon, now isn't a good time for this." Wonwoo said, looking at Mingyu.
"Of course it isn't. Ah, I can't believe I had to leave because of that pathetic little shit."
"Jihoon, language. " Wonwoo said.
"I think I should leave now." Mingyu said, getting up.
"Why?" Jihoon asked.
"No, don't go." Wonwoo said, grabbing his hand.
Jihoon looked at them and at their joined hands. His eyes widened in realization.
"I'll leave. Oh my God, I'm sorry Wonwoo, I will never barge into your house again." Jihoon said and left, just as quickly as he came.
"Sorry about that." Wonwoo said after Mingyu sat down.
"Yeah, it's fine. Don't worry." Mingyu said.
"So, that's your friend?" Mingyu asked, looking at Wonwoo.
"Yeah. He works with me. We went to the same school too." Mingyu said, smiling.
"You must have known each other for a long time. " Mingyu said leaning on Wonwoo.
"Yeah, We even went on a date. " Wonwoo said, trying to sound nonchalant.
Mingyu laughed.
" Why are you laughing ?"
" Is he your type? "
"What? No. Ten mintues into our first date we realised it would never work out. " Wonwoo said.
Mingyu could see Wonwoo was embarrassed.
"Did you ask him out?" Mingyu asked. Wonwoo had told him he had no experience in dating.
"No. Everyone kept telling us that we'd be good together. So we just tried it out but it didn't work. We agreed that we should just remain as friends. " Wonwoo said.
Mingyu laughed, ruffling Wonwoo's hair. Wonwoo huffed.
"Aren't you going to ask me? " Mingyu asked.
Wonwoo looked at him in confusion. Wonwoo didn't have to explain it to him but he had. Mingyu thought Wonwoo had expected Mingyu to talk about his relationships.
" Hyung, didn't you tell me about Jihoon being your ex because you wanted to know about mine ?"
"No." Wonwoo said alarmed.
" Aren't you curious about me at all?" Mingyu asked.
"I am curious about you but I didn't tell you about Jihoon so you will talk about your exes. I didn't want you to hear it from someone else."
"Hyung, you are so cute. " Mingyu said, squeezing Wonwoo's cheeks with both of his palms.
"Mingyu stop. " Wonwoo said, laughing.
"Are there others? Your exes, I mean." Wonwoo asked.
" Yes. "
"How many are there?" Wonwoo asked, playfully.
"I've dated a lot of people, hyung. Twenty two." Mingyu said, looking at Wonwoo carefully.
Wonwoo started laughing.
"Hyung, I'm not kidding " Mingyu said, which only made Wonwoo laugh harder.
" So I'm number twenty three? " Wonwoo teased.
Mingyu whined, hiding his face in Wonwoo's shoulder.
"Hyung do you have any appointments tomorrow?"
"No. I am free tomorrow. Why? What do you want to do? "
"No. There's somewhere I want to go after breakfast. "
"Where? "
"You will know tomorrow. "
"Ah, tell me now. " Wonwoo said, grabbing Mingyu's hands.
Mingyu shook his head.
"Mingyu tell me. "
Mingyu faked a yawn.
"Are you tired? "
"Yes. I went to work at the booth as soon as I was done with my work. " Mingyu said.
" Let's go to bed. " Wonwoo said, getting up.
" I will take the couch. " Mingyu said.
"The guestroom is upstairs. " Wonwoo said.
"Ah, I forgot. "
"What? "
"That you are rich." Mingyu said, laughing.
Wonwoo smacked his shoulder lightly before going upstairs. Mingyu followed after him.
"This is the my bedroom. The one down the hall is the guest room. Why don't you go in? I will get you some clothes to change into. " Wonwoo said.
Wonwoo opened the door to his bedroom, stepping in. Mingyu went in after him.
Wonwoo turned around to look at Mingyu in shock.
"What? You told me to get in. "
"I meant the guest room. Mingyu. "
"Hyung, can I look around your room? " Mingyu asked, acting innocent. He looked at Wonwoo until Wonwoo nodded.
"You have a lot of books. Do you really read these or are they for decoration? " Mingyu asked, sitting down on the bed.
"Of course I read them. " Wonwoo said, looking at him weirdly.
Mingyu kept asking him useless questions. Wonwoo answered him patiently. The more Mingyu knew about Wonwoo, the more he realized that his first impression of him was far away from how he really was.
"You have no thoughts of leaving this room do you ?" Wonwoo asked handing him a set of his pajamas.
"No. You said you wanted to sleep with me and you're kicking me to the guestroom. You're such a tease, hyung. " Mingyu said, pouting.
"Mingyu. " Wonwoo said, hiding his face in his hands.
"Okay. Correction. You wanted to sleep next to me and not in the next room, right? " Mingyu said.
Wonwoo looked at him skeptically.
"I promise I'll keep my hands to myself. " Mingyu said, with his charming smile.
"You better. " Wonwoo muttered.
They washed up before changing into pajamas.
" Good night. " Mingyu whispered with a smile. Wonwoo slipped into the covers beside him.
"Good night. " Wonwoo muttered, kissing his forehead.
Mingyu's eyes fluttered close, feeling happy. He smiled as he pulled Wonwoo closer.
"You said you'll keep your hands to yourself. " Wonwoo chuckled.
"Hyung, how could I resist when you're this cute." Mingyu said, peppering kisses.
"You said you were tired. Go to sleep." Wonwoo said giggling.
"Strangely I am not sleepy anymore, hyung. " Mingyu said, looking at him.
"Close your eyes, you will fall asleep. " Wonwoo said, placing a hand over Mingyu's eyes.
"Hyung." Mingyu whined.
Mingyu gasped as Wonwoo kissed him softly. Mingyu moved Wonwoo's hand away from his eyes to see Wonwoo staring at him.
"Good night. " Wonwoo said quietly, moving away.
Mingyu pulled him back, laughing.
"You're such a tease. " Mingyu muttered against Wonwoo's mouth.
Wonwoo smiled as Mingyu kissed him. Mingyu pulled him closer, breaking the kiss.
"Do you want to watch a movie? " Wonwoo asked, wrapping his arms around Mingyu.
Mingyu nodded. He wasn't going to sleep anytime soon and a movie sounded like a safer option. He didn't want to rush Wonwoo.
Wonwoo settled down next to him after playing the movie. Mingyu had let Wonwoo choose the movie despite Wonwoo's insistence that he should be the one to pick it.
Mingyu leaned against Wonwoo's shoulder as the movie started. Mingyu remembered nothing of the movie, he was too focused on Wonwoo.
Wonwoo fell asleep halfway through the movie. Mingyu poked him to see if he would wake up. Wonwoo stirred but didn't wake up. Mingyu smiled, as he switched off the TV.
"Good night, hyung. " Mingyu whispered, pressing a kiss to his forehead. Sleep claimed him soon, wrapping him in a pastel dream.
