Work Text:

Out of the corner of his eye, Seungmin sees Hyunjin sceptically peer at the blur of the unfamiliar streets and shop fronts the car passes by. Fuck. He’s caught on. Don’t ask don't ask don’t ask don’t—

“Seungmin... are we lost?” Hyunjin turns around to ask.

“... No.” Seungmin replies rather unconvincingly, keeping his eyes trained on the road ahead to hide from view the nervous flickers of his pupils. Hyunjin isn’t fooled, if his tinkering giggles are anything to go by.

“Right. Mind telling me where we are right now then? You know I’m bad at recognising streets.”

Seungmin chances a glance at Hyunjin and is met with his deceptively innocent gaze and a playful pout on his lips.

“Uh. Seoul, South Korea?”

Seungmin.” Hyunjin’s tone is chiding, yet way too fond in the way he pronounces the syllables of his name, and Seungmin can picture how Hyunjin must look right now, his eyes curved up into twin crescents as he breaks into silent, open-mouthed laughter.

Seungmin feel his ears warm.

Screw how flustered he still gets around Hyunjin over the tiniest things.

Seungmin fumbles for a plausible excuse for why they’ve been driving around in circles for two hours. He's a lawyer, goddammit; he of all people should be good at ludicrous mental gymnastics—

“I’m kidnapping you!” He blurts out instead.

Law degrees are a scam, and Kim Seungmin is living, breathing proof of it. If he thumps his head on the steering wheel hard enough, would he pass out?

“... should I call you a very patient man for going through two years of dating me before making a move or, a sneaky bastard for trying to kidnap me after abducting my heart?” Hyunjin leans over the console.

“You’re incorrigible, Kim Seungmin.” He whispers the last sentence into Seungmin’s ear, warm breath tickling him. Seungmin would be embarrassed at how affected he is by the simple action, and even more by how the other definitely knows that, but Hyunjin proceeds to lick his earlobe, breaking into guffaws as Seungmin shrieks at the startling wetness and nearly drives them onto the sidewalk.

“That was gross,” Seungmin whines, swiping at his ear.

“Oh,” oh no, he can hear the shit-eating grin Hyunjin has on his face in that one syllable, “so you’ll only accept my tongue when it’s in your—”

“Finish that sentence and I’m breaking up with you.”

“Yeah, yeah, you love me too much to do that.” Hyunjin waves a hand dismissively.

“But I’ll stop because I don’t want your ears going up in flames because of me. Your ears are cute,” he continues, tugging lightly at a reddened lobe of Seungmin’s, “and you’d be cute regardless, but I’d prefer a Seungmin with ears. Heh.”

“Stop calling me cute, I’m a lawyer. Lawyers are cold-hearted and ruthless.”

Hyunjin huffs in reply, “You don’t like me calling you cute? That’s not what you said when—”

“Hyunjin.”

“... when we were f— mmph.”

Hyunjin. Don’t defile our car.” Seungmin sighs exasperatedly, a free palm now clamped over Hyunjin’s mouth, the other on his shoulder, the care safely pulled over. He’s answered by rambunctious laughter trailing over, slightly muffled but no less unbridled with joy.

Seungmin bites back a smile, not wanting to outwardly encourage Hyunjin’s antics, but the boy has first-row seats to his losing battle in keeping the corners of his lips from tugging upwards and how his hand surreptitiously slips away so he can hear his laugh more clearly. Seungmin pretends he doesn’t, pretends he isn’t indulgently soaking in the sight before him — Hyunjin’s eyes crinkled into half-moons, nose scrunched up in a manner curiously reminiscent of steamed buns, and a radiant smile with sunshine stitched into its lines that Seungmin is sure would bring even the world’s greatest leaders to their knees.

Hyunjin pauses in his guffaws and meets his gaze with a daisy-tinged one, untainted in its gentle beauty.

“You’re doing that staring thing again,” he remarks, voice so quiet Seungmin may not have heard his words if his attention wasn’t as concentrated on him as he is right now.

Seungmin answers with a hum, shifting his hand to take Hyunjin’s hand and lace their fingers together.

Hyunjin has some really sparkly eyes, Seungmin notices.

Seemingly unaffected by the lack of a proper response, Hyunjin giggles, “Let’s stay like this for a while then; I don’t think we can make it in time for our dinner reservations anyway, hm?”

“Your eyes twinkle like the stars,” Seungmin mutters distractedly instead, startling a chuckle out of the other, “more than them actually. Twin brightest stars. Did you steal the sparkle of the other stars for yourself?”

“I wouldn’t dare,” Hyunjin exhales, “They twinkle like this because you’re the brightest star of all, silly, and in my eyes, there’s only you.”
