Comforting snow

Summary:

Snow fluff with the gang!

Work Text:

Columbus woke up on a December morning to blatant frost nipping at his uncovered face. He yawned and shivered a bit.

"Fuck, it's cold." He mumbled. They were staying in a relatively large house on their way to Ohio. It wasn't really Columbus's idea, and frankly he was hesitant, but they were going to check if his parents were okay.

On one hand, he was thankful. I mean, they are his parents. He was mad for letting him just be so lonely as a kid, but he still loved them. Of course he did. But on the other, he didn't wanna find out. He found comfort in hallucinations of them being safe, and sometimes the opposite in nightmares.

Columbus pulled himself out of bed, and trudged into the messy kitchen. Tallahassee was working on a bottle of whiskey, and Witchita was trying to make food without using too much of the rations. Supermarkets were dangerous, despite having a skilled set of team members.

"Mornin' Columbus." Tallahassee yawned. The man could either be more energetic then a puppy going on a walk for the first time or slower than a sloth in a tree. This morning, Columbus guessed it was the latter. Or it could just be the affects of the alcohol.

"Morning Tally, morning everyone." He got a few hums in response. Plopping down in his seat, he glanced outside. His face almost starting glowing. The ground was covered in new, fluffy snow. It almost hurt to look at since it was so sparkly.

Columbus had always been a snow person. He didn't necessarily like freezing his ass off, but he did enjoy the look of it. And playing in the snow. If you weren't wet or frozen, it was fun. Genuine fun, the stuff he hadn't experienced since he was young. When his parents had to take care of him. Apparently, this was noticed by Littlerock, who got excited also.

"Can we play in the snow??" She asked, staring at his sister and Tallahassee.

"After you eat, then we can go." Wichita said, putting food down in front of anyone. "But until then, eat up."

Littlerock cheered as she hopped into the snow, dragging Columbus with her. She had realized he was just as excited and was glad to have someone to play with. Tallahassee and Wichita just took refuge on the porch.

"Hey spit-fuck," Tallahassee started, but was cut off by a loud shush. He examined the scene more and realized he was trying to hit Littlerock with a snowball.

Columbus threw it and it hit her back. She yelped and laughed.

"Oh it's on!" She yelled, grabbing some snow and balling it up. Columbus giggled and ran to go make a wall to hide behind. It was half constructed before the firing start.

"I've been hit!" He yelled and he was pummeled with a dozen of snowballs. Wichita smiled at their snowball fight. Littlerock was finally able to be a kid, and she guessed Columbus was too. After a bit Tallahassee had joined in, gaining some energy. Instead of taking a team, he free fired on both.

It was a really sweet sight. 'The United States of Zombieland', as Columbus called it, wasn't all that bad.
