Chapter Text
It was a calm late afternoon and I followed the trail of two black kittens down the grassy plain of the big yard of mine. The two kittens join a third one that was eating rice off of his hand. I just had a feeling that he was back. He stared at me with an emotionless expression like always. Even with his stoic expression, I knew he was happy to be back.
"I just knew that it was you" I say rushing over to him.
The kittens scowled at me for interrupting their breakfast which caused him to look back down at the cats.
"How was your mission?" I asked him.
"Annoying"
I playfully rolled my eyes. Everything was annoying to him.
His attention moved back to the baby cats, feeding them the remainder of the rice. I squat down taking the rice from him to feed the cats myself. They were so cute and the gathered around my hand.
"I'm stealing your fans."
He gives a small smirk at my words. I smiled at him and continue to pet the kittens.
"I made your favorite food!" I tell him excitedly.
"Let's go eat then" He says quickly standing up. The kittens followed behind us.
"The food was meant for dinner" I say.
"I don't care; I can eat the same twice" He shrugs.
"Okay. Race you" I squeal and started to run towards the temple.
He could have passed me within seconds, but he let me win. We entered the kitchen and I turned to him to find him right behind me. I smile and moved to the fridge. Believe it or not, the place was always livelier when he was around. We sat down at the small oval table to eat the rice balls with Okaka. Even having just one arm, he didn't struggle doing normal things.
"Why don't you get the prosthetic arm from the Hidden leaf Village?" I ask.
"I don't want anything from them" He quietly says.
He still feels guilty about his actions during the war and he doesn't want to owe Konoha anything. In my opinion, he already does enough for them and they could never pay him back. Sasuke reached in his black coat and hands me a small vile.
"This is the ancient blood-leaves you were looking for?" He asked.
"Thank you" I smile.
"The town is more than grateful to have you" I say to Sasuke.
I wonder how long he would stay this time. He normally gets many missions from the hidden leaf village or he goes on exotic adventures to get me rare medical supplies. He stays with me during his free period. As he ate, I told him all about my day and he just listened. He's a great listener even though he doesn't like to talk much. I hope he will stay for more than a week this time.
"I must give this to the old man. Do you want to come with me? I want to give you credit"
He just quietly followed me as a response. He didn't care about receiving credit, but after Konoha ruined his reputation and name all over the world, the world needs to know that he isn't as evil and conniving as people claim he is.
Sasuke doesn't carry any malice towards the Hidden Leaf Village, but me as an outsider looking in, the village is filled with corrupt leaders who tried to cover the genocide of a whole clan. Konoha seems to be a dreadful place to live and even though I can't understand why he protects that village, I wouldn't impose my views on him or ask him to stop protecting them.
Sasuke follows me down the stairs of the temple. We arrived at the main hall where it had some priestesses apart of my clan walking in out towards their destination. I went to give the man the small vile.
"This is what you were looking for. It will help cure your village of the disease" I explained to the man.
"Thank you High priestess" the man spoke with gratitude.
"It's all thanks to my husband, Sasuke Uchiha. He accepted this dangerous mission to retrieve the herb" I informed, turning to look at Sasuke, who was standing near the door of the room with a stoic expression.
"Thank you Uchiha-San. I'll make sure to tell my leaders from the Land of Waves about your dedication," The man bowed to show him gratitude.
"There's no need for that" Sasuke replied.
After the man left, I turned to look at Sasuke. "Land of Waves? I wonder where that is"
"It's a three days trip from here" Sasuke says.
He told me more about the Land of Waves as we walked out of the temple. We were going back to the kittens.
"What should we do today? We can go fishing or-" I begin to suggest.
I was interrupted when a bird made out of ink came flying towards us. Sasuke takes out a scroll and the bird dove into the scroll turning into writing. This bird is so irritating because every time I see it, it means that he had to leave. We didn't even spend three hours together! Curse that damn bird!!
I watch him read the ink scripture. Don't they have other shinobis in Konoha, why do they insist on overworking him?
He hands me the letter to read. There's some traces of Kaguya's chakra found in a nearby village and they want him to investigate. Also someone named Naruto is inviting him to his wedding.
"But you just came back. Why can't they send someone else?" I whine.
"I fought against Kaguya and I can immediately tell if it's her chakra" he explains.
"Ugh! What about me? Without your love and attention, I'm nothing" I say dramatically. I jokingly fell to the ground holding my heart.
He raised an eyebrow, staring down at me. "You're so dramatic" he spoke.
I giggle and stood up from the ground.
"It won't be long, I'll be back by sunrise" he assured.
"Let me pack some dinner for you to take along" I suggest.
He didn't have a choice, I took his hand pulling him inside the temple. I packed some dinner for him and he went on his way.
I watched him from the window of my room as he walked away into the forest. Even when he was no longer visible to me, I just stared at the trees.
People call this land, The Land of Spirits because they think our Kekkei genkai is related to evil spirits or ghosts. Even though our ability of Blood Bending can be used for evil, we use it to protect our land.
Most people come to our land out of desperation to find rare medical herbs to cure their people. As priestesses in the temple, we go on missions to find rare herbs for customers.
Somehow Sasuke teleported into the temple a few years ago. He was injured and we saved him. He probably likes the calmness of the village because he kept coming back to our village every two months. He offered to go on missions to get medicinal herbs for us.
We grew closer during those times and even with all these dangerous missions that Konoha gives him, he always comes back to me.
