Work Text:
Javi, having just finished his work for the day, walked out of BuzzBlast and was surprised to see Ollie waiting for him outside.
"Hey! What are you doing here?" Javi asked.
"What? Didn't want to see your boyfriend?" Ollie asked, smirking.
"I was just surprised," Javi explained before giving Ollie a quick peck on the lips.
"A good one, hopefully," Ollie said as he gently took Javi's hand in his own and entwined their fingers.
"Always," Javi responded. They were walking through town simply enjoying each other's company before their comms rang out.
"Ollie here," he said as he responded to the beep.
"There is a sporix beast in the park." Zayto's voice rang through the comm link before an explosion was heard.
The two rangers looked at each other quickly before glancing around looking for pedestrians. Thankfully, none were in the area and the two morphed before teleporting to the park.
As the two rangers teleported into the battle, they saw the three other rangers thrown back by a large explosion. Javi and Ollie rushed over to them and crouched down to check for injuries.
"Are you guys ok?" Javi asked.
"We-we're fine," Izzy grunted out as her and the other two rangers stood up.
"What is this guy about?" Ollie asked.
"He has a pen and whatever he writes, happens," Zayto explained quickly.
"Yeah, but he loves his explosions," Amelia chimed in as the sporix laughed.
"How nice of the other two rangers to join us. Now I, Desion, can destroy you all together!" The sporix said, laughing after he finished.
"We'll see about that!" Javi shouted as the sporix summoned the hengemen.
The five rangers split up to fight all of the enemies. Zayto and Izzy went after Desion while the other three fought the hengemen.
Amelia and Javi quickly fought through the hengemen surrounding them, but Ollie was getting overwhelmed as more and more hengemen broke off to overcome him. As this was happening, Zayto and Izzy got knocked back from the sporix beast by a powerful slash of his pen staff.
"Time for some destruction!" Desion shouted as he began to write in the air with his pen staff.
Javi had just finished up his portion of the hengemen as the sporix began writing. Seeing the sporix beast writing in the air, facing Ollie, Javi acted on pure instinct.
"Sprint Dino Key!" He shouted. As Javi felt the surge of energy running through him as the key enhanced his speed, he ran forward, slashing all the hengemen in his way as he got to Ollie. He pushed Ollie away from the oncoming explosion just as the sporix beast had finished writing.
Ollie looked up in horror as an explosion erupted, capturing Javi and the rest of the hengemen in its radius.
"JAVI!" Ollie shouted in despair as the smoke cleared slowly. Javi's body lay there motionless, demorphed in the middle of the disappearing hengemen bodies. Ollie ran over to his body as Void Knight teleported to the scene, unseen by Ollie in his frantic race to Javi.
"Please wake up, Javi! Come on! I can't- I can't do this without you," Ollie choked out before whispering lowly, "I- I love you. You can't leave me like this,"
Void Knight, Desion, and the rest of the rangers watched the scene unfolding before them. The rangers were all in various states of sadness and despair as Void Knight became enraged, turning on Desion.
"Give me one reason not to end your puny existence right now!" Void Knight growled out.
"I killed one of the rangers!" Desion said gleefully. As he said this, Void Knight turned to Ollie and tossed a key at him.
"You have the right to this," he said, surprisingly gentle to the blue ranger who was still clutching Javi desperately. Ollie looked over at the key that lay a few inches from him. As soon as he set eyes on the key, he felt an unexplainable pull to reach out and touch it. As he reached out to grab it, Zayto shouted out to him, "Don't touch that!"
Ollie's eyes flickered towards Zayto before looking towards Void Knight, then the sporix beast, and finally resting on Javi. The longer his eyes rested on Javi's body, the harder the tug became before it was almost too much to bear.
As if sensing Ollie had made his decision, Void Knight pulled out another dino key.
"Gravi Dino Key!" He called out as Desion was weighed down by a weight.
Ollie glanced up from Javi and saw Desion chained and unable to move. Looking towards his fellow rangers one last time, he quickly grabbed the mysterious Dino key and set it in his sword.
"Darkness Dino Key," he said as he stood up slowly, ensuring he didn't further damage Javi. A jet black velociraptor head appeared on Ollie's right shoulder, and he stalked towards the sporix beast. As he got within striking distance, Ollie unleashed a flurry of attacks so quickly and powerfully that the other rangers couldn't even try to stop him as he tore the sporix beast to shreds.
The sporix dropped after a few moments of silence. Ollie knelt down and grabbed it before tossing it to Void Knight. Void Knight walked over to Ollie, who was still kneeling on the ground, and placed a hand gently on his shoulder.
"Get away from him!" Amelia shouted, tears evident in her voice. Zayto was beginning to prepare to attack Void Knight as Izzy had fallen to the ground sobbing after the destruction of Desion.
"I can help you," Void Knight murmured. Ollie nodded minutely, unable to process everything that had happened.
Void Knight turned to the rest of the rangers and said, "Until next time," before teleporting himself, Ollie, and Javi's body away from the battlefield.
;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-; I'm sorry ;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;
Ollie was led inside a strange building in the middle of the forest. Javi's body was being carried carefully by Void Knight.
"Where are we?" Ollie asked as he looked around dejectedly.
"My base," Void Knight responded.
Ollie looked surprised at Void Knight and then asked, "Why'd you take me here?"
"I have an offer for you. I have constructed a machine that can bring people back to life. I am offering to construct another one for Javi,"
"There has to be some kind of twist here. What do I need to do in return for this?" Ollie asked, skeptical of Void Knight's motivations.
"Nothing. I will just ask you to gather the power on your own,"
"What is it powered by?"
"Sporix,"
Ollie stood in stunned silence for a moment. The pieces were starting to come together in his head.
"You lost someone too, so you created a machine but needed a powerful source of energy. That is why you need the sporix," Ollie explained. Void Knight simply nodded in response.
Void Knight brought Ollie into a back room and laid Javi gently on a metal table. Ollie went to Javi's side and held his hand up to his mouth. He pressed a gentle kiss to the back of it before he backed away. Ollie turned to Void Knight.
"Let me think about it. I'll come back with an answer tomorrow," he said as he took one last look at Javi before teleporting out.
;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;
The remaining three rangers stood in the park in shock of all the events that had just transpired. Javi was dead, and Ollie was somewhere with Void Knight. Zayto was the first to snap out of the shock and teleported the other two back to the ranger base.
Once they had materialized in the base, Solon ran up and hugged Izzy.
"It will be alright eventually, child," she whispered in her ear as Izzy wept.
After a few minutes, Izzy pulled away from the hug and turned to face the rangers as she wiped her eyes.
"W-We need to tell my dad," she choked out.
Zayto nodded and responded, "We will make an announcement tomorrow,"
The rest of the day was spent in mourning for the three rangers, Solon occasionally popping in to make sure they ate and drank.
;-;-;-;-;-;-;
The following day Ollie woke up screaming after having a nightmare that forced him to relive that fight. His mom came running into the room, worried about her son.
"Are you alright, honey?" She asked.
"No. Not really," Ollie said, holding back tears.
"What happened?" She questioned.
"If you could bring dad back, would you do it? Regardless of the cost?" He asked after a moment of silence.
She looked at her son, confused for a moment before responding, "hypothetically, I would do almost anything to bring him back, but only if the way would have been acceptable to him. If I did something against his morals, I'm not sure he would ever forgive me for bringing him back. Did something happen to Javi?"
Ollie broke down once again as his mom moved to hug him. After what felt like an eternity to Ollie, he started to calm down. His mom walked him down to the kitchen so she could start on some breakfast for the two of them. Ollie was mindlessly watching the television until it cut to breaking news.
"The Rangers are going to be making an announcement at noon at BuzzBlast. Be sure you are tuning into this channel or are watching live to hear whatever the rangers need us to know!"
"Hey, mom? Can we go watch that?" Ollie asked as he sniffled.
"Sure, honey," she responded softly, knowing what emotional state Ollie was in.
;-;-;-;-;
The three rangers stood morphed in front of cameras that were broadcasting to the rest of the city.
Ollie was towards the front of the crowd but far enough away that they couldn't recognize him. As soon as noon hit, the Rangers began their announcement.
"As some of you may have noticed, there are two members of our team missing. We fought against a very dangerous sporix yesterday, and it was not without great cost to us. Before we continue, we would like to request Warden Garcia to come up with us." The red ranger began, stopping to let the warden approach the stage.
A very confused warden walked up to the stage.
"We strive to keep our identities a secret, but this unfortunate situation calls for a change in that rule. One of our fellow rangers was killed in our last battle," the pink ranger continued as gasps rippled through the crowd.
"Our Black Ranger was killed by a sporix beast known as Desion. We decided as a team that we would publicly give the name of our Black Ranger so that their family can mourn and know how important they were in the protection of this city," the Red Ranger continued.
"Their name was Javier Garcia," the Pink Ranger stated. Upon this statement, the Warden stood wide-eyed, not believing that his son was dead.
"H-How?" The Warden stuttered out.
"The sporix was very powerful, and none of us could get close enough to damage it. Javi decided to distract it so the rest of us could defeat it," the Red Ranger explained.
After a moment of deafening silence, the crowd burst into murmurs and whispers.
Outraged at the lie, Ollie shouted out, "That's not what happened!"
The entire crowd looked towards him. As the rangers looked at each other, worried about what was about to happen.
"How would you know?" One of the civilians asked. The rest of the crowd murmured in agreement.
Ollie looked around at the crowd and then turned towards the rangers.
"It's Morphin Time! Dino Fury Key! Activate! Link to Morphin grid!" Ollie shouted as he morphed into the blue ranger. Surprised murmurs went through the crowd as the three rangers on stage faced Ollie.
"Now is not the time, Ollie!" Amelia said.
"Really? Then maybe you shouldn't have lied! He died protecting me, not as some distraction!" Ollie shouted.
"Ollie…." The Warden started, "You were dating Javi, right?"
"Don't speak his name!" Ollie growled, "You made his life miserable! He loved music, but you made sure he knew how much you hated that! You have no right to say his name,"
"Ollie, we need to talk privately. Just calm down, and we will go back to the base," Zayto calmly stated, trying to placate Ollie.
"Calm down? You want me to calm down after you lied about Javi? Not going to happen," Ollie screamed before teleporting out of BuzzBlast.
;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;
Ollie was wandering aimlessly through town, thinking about Void Knight's offer and what it would mean. He would get Javi back, but would Javi be okay with what that would take? As Ollie looked up from his feet, he took in his surroundings, and a memory came over his mind.
The five rangers had received a tip that there was a sporix beast at the quarry, and it was sticking objects to other objects or even people.
"You're not a very good matchmaker!" Javi taunted as the ranger arrived morphed on the scene.
"Magnetine is the best matchmaker in existence!" The sporix beast retorted.
"Great. They're speaking in third person," Ollie remarked.
"You two would be good!" Magnetine called out as he shot an energy blast at Javi and Ollie. Both rangers instinctively raised their arms to block their faces, but as the energy impacted, it didn't seem to have an immediate effect.
"That's the best you got magnet dude?" Izzy called out. The sporix beast laughed at Izzy's response as Javi and Ollie were being dragged by an invisible force towards each other. This mysterious force forced their sword arms together. Despite how much both of the rangers tried to move their arms, they were stuck together.
"We will still beat you!" Ollie called over his shoulder since he was forced to face the other direction due to the position their arms were stuck in.
"Hengemen!" The sporix called.
"We got them. You guys get the magnet!" Javi said as the hengemen approached the rangers.
Javi and Ollie quickly settled into a rhythm. One used their offhand to slash at the hengemen while the other watched their openings to ensure they weren't hit. The two of them fought in perfect harmony, neither ever being hit. They cleared the hengemen in record time and celebrated for a moment before rushing to help the other rangers.
Ollie had a small smile on his face as he remembered how perfectly they had fought together despite the fact that both of their sword arms were handicapped. It was almost as if they could read each other's minds.
His smile slipped from his face as three familiar figures appeared in front of him.
"What was that, Ollie?" Amelia questioned, obviously upset with what had transpired.
"Why did you lie? There was no point in lying," he retorted.
"You wouldn't understand," Izzy responded.
"No, I guess I wouldn't," Ollie agreed as he turned sharply and began walking in the other direction.
"Ollie, wait! We can explain!" Amelia called after him. Ollie ignored her and continued walking away.
Zayto jogged to catch up with him and put a hand on his shoulder. In the blink of an eye, Ollie had turned around, morphed, and held his sword to Zayto's neck.
"Don't. And never try to read my mind while you're at it," Ollie spat out before backing away and teleporting, leaving the three rangers shocked in his wake.
;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;
Ollie reappeared inside Void Knight's lair. It was surprisingly void of any sporix beasts. Even Mucus was nowhere to be seen.
"Void Knight? I have an answer," Ollie called out uncertainly.
Void Knight walked out from one of the back doors and gestured for Ollie to follow him. Void Knight led him into a room with a complete machine.
"Just give me the word, and I will finish it and make it ready for sporix," Void Knight said.
"Do it," Ollie replied. Void Knight simply nodded and began hooking up wires. Roughly an hour later, Void Knight was finished and called Ollie for the final part.
"Just place him in it, and it will be ready," Void Knight explained. Ollie did as instructed, and the machine was running in 5 minutes. Void Knight led him back to the main room and explained, "Just place any sporix you gather in this part of the machine, and it will update the power meter to the right of the machine. I placed your first sporix in there already," he said as he gestured to the 3 bars of energy.
"Thanks. Is there some sort of security system here? Would the other rangers be able to track me here?" Ollie asked.
"They can not track you here, but once in the city, I can't guarantee anything,"
Ollie nodded and began to look around the base, familiarizing himself with it. Around midnight, Ollie assumed that most of the rangers should be asleep, so he decided to teleport to the base.
Ollie teleported quietly into the base. Not hearing any movement, he snuck towards the holding place for the sporix. Just as he approached, however, the lights flicked on.
"Ollie, what a surprise. What are you doing up this late?" Solon said from the entryway.
Ollie turned towards her, "Nothing. I just wanted a quiet place to think. I thought everyone would be asleep, sorry,"
"You have gone through a lot in the past few days, child. Would you like some tea and company?"
Ollie contemplated the offer for a moment but relented with a nod. As Solon went to make tea, Ollie took one last glance at the sporix container and sat down at a table that was set up in the center. He started twiddling with his fingers as he waited for Solon.
After a few minutes, Solon came back into the room with a tray holding a tea kettle and two cups.
"It will get better with time, Ollie. Something like this is not something you can recover from quickly," she started.
"I'm not sure I will ever be able to," he whispered, staring into the cup that Solon had handed him.
"It may seem like that right now, but with help from your friends and family, you will start to heal,"
"But he was everything to me. I-I feel like my entire world has collapsed and crumbled into dust. Without him, I'm not sure I can do this," Ollie explained, gesturing to the room around him as tears began to form in his eyes.
"You have done it before, it might hurt at first, but you can continue without him,"
"I'm not the same person from then. He changed me. Made me better than I thought I could ever be. To continue this feels like I'm betraying him," Ollie said as a few tears started to fall.
"Javi would want you to be happy. Do not see this as a betrayal to him, but a continuation of the work he could not finish,"
"I can 't be happy without him," Ollie choked out as he began to sob. Solon slowly stood up, circled around the table, and pulled Ollie into a hug.
Solon stood in silence as Ollie let all of his pent-up emotions out once again. Eventually, he pulled away and wiped his eyes with the back of his hand.
"You give great hugs," he laughed out sadly.
;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;
There was another sporix beast sighting a week later. Zayto, Amelia, and Izzy were morphed and fighting the new sporix, but Ollie was nowhere to be seen.
After a powerful attack from the sporix, the three rangers were knocked back and demorphed. As they started to pick themselves back up, they saw a blue flash from behind them. The three rangers turned and saw Ollie morphed with the black velociraptor head on his right shoulder again.
"Be careful, Ollie. This one is strong," Amelia warned him. Ollie stalked past them, ignoring her warning. The sporix beast didn't attack Ollie when he approached, much to the other ranger’s surprise.
"What is happening?" Izzy asked, but before anyone could respond, the sporix started to speak.
"I don't need your help. These rangers are weak without two of their team!" It spoke.
"Good thing I'm not here to help, then," Ollie laughed darkly before slashing at the sporix beast. The two entered a fierce battle, but it was apparent that the sporix was going to lose within a few strikes. Before it could be finished, however, it grew giant.
"Now, what are you going to do?" It called down.
As Zayto went to communicate with Solon about summoning the zords, Ollie cut him off.
"I got this," he said as he pulled the Darkness soul out of his sword, "Shadow Raptor!"
A mysterious black velociraptor ran into view as Ollie threw the key into the air. After the key enlarged and fell into the zord, Ollie jumped into it.
The fight was just as unbalanced as before, with Ollie overpowering the enlarged sporix beast even with a single zord. After a few minutes, the sporix beast was destroyed, the sporix dropping to the ground.
Ollie dropped down and picked it up before turning back to the new zord, "Thank you. I will try and find yours too," he said mysteriously.
The other three rangers ran up to Ollie and fired questions off left and right.
"Enough! One at a time," he shouted.
"What is the new zord? Where did you find it?" Amelia asked.
"It's the Shadow Raptor. It found me," Ollie responded.
"What did you mean when you told it you would try to find his?" Izzy asked.
Before Ollie could respond, Zayto answered the question, "The Shadow Raptor is looking for its missing half. No one has ever seen it,"
"I have other things to do. See you the next time there is an emergency," Ollie said before teleporting back to Void Knight's lair with the new sporix.
;-;-;-;-;-;-;-;-:-;
The next dozen or so battles went similarly. Ollie inevitably saved them while disappearing with the sporix mysteriously. Every so often, Void Knight would appear and take the sporix before Ollie could, but the rangers never got any.
Before long, Ollie had gathered enough sporix to fill the energy machine for Javi. Ollie ran into the room that held Javi as the machine started to work. After a few minutes of quiet, the glass panel in the front of the machine shattered, and Javi stumbled out, disoriented but alive.
"JAVI!" Ollie shouted, running up to hug him.
"Ollie! I-I had a terrible nightmare that you-you had died," he choked out as he fiercely returned the hug. The two of them sat there crying in relief.
As they pulled out of the hug, a blinding white light formed between them. The light cleared and revealed an almost pure white Dino key. Both of them sat in shock for a moment before Javi reached out and grabbed it.
"It's a Dino key. I think it's the Shining key," he said as he looked at it confused.
"I love you," Ollie said as he pressed their foreheads together.
"I love you too," Javi replied before pressing their lips together. It was a fierce kiss that relayed the desperation of the two at the moment. After they broke apart for air, Ollie teleported the two of them to a clearing in the forest.
"Where are we?" Javi asked as he took in his surroundings.
"It's a place that I came to when I was overwhelmed. I met someone here that I made a promise to," Ollie said as he pulled out the Darkness Dino key. He threw it into the air, summoning the Shadow Raptor.
"Woah! That is awesome!" Javi exclaimed.
"Did you make any progress, Ollie?" It asked in a gravelly voice. Javi flinched, not expecting it to speak.
"I think so," Ollie responded before turning and looking at Javi, "Throw that key we got,"
Javi looked between the two, confused, before throwing the mysterious white key in the air. A rumble rippled through the ground beneath their feet before settling down. A set of heavy footsteps was heard coming closer, but before they arrived, three figures teleported into the clearing.
"What are you doing with- JAVI?" Izzy began before realizing Javi was standing next to Ollie. Izzy ran up and hugged her brother fiercely as Zayto started to speak.
"What did you do, Ollie?"
"What I had to," Ollie responded vaguely.
"What's he talking about? And why is Izzy so clingy?" Javi asked as he gestured to Izzy, who was still hugging him.
"You-you died, Javi," Amelia stated. Before Javi got a chance to respond, the source of the heavy set of footprints appeared. It was a white velociraptor zord.
The two zords moved to stand next to each other as the new zord began to speak.
"Thank you for reuniting us. Without the pure love between Ollie and Javi, I fear we would never have been reunited. As a thank you, we will fight alongside you both," it called out before another flash of light appeared in front of the two of them. Once it cleared away, it revealed a Dino key. The new key seemed to be a fusion between the darkness and shining Dino keys.
"It is the Cosmo Dino key. It combines our powers," the Shadow Raptor explained.
:-;-;-;-;-;-;
After the two zords took their leave, Ollie reached out and entwined his fingers with Javi's.
"Come on. I need to explain everything that's happened," Ollie said. Javi simply nodded before extracting himself from Izzy's bone-crushing hug.
"We will come back to the base when we've finished," Javi promised. The other three looked between each other skeptically before nodding. Ollie teleported the two of them back to his house inside his room.
Ollie explained everything in as much detail as he could, unable to meet Javi's eyes during the entire explanation.
Once Ollie had finished his explanation, Javi shuffled closer to Ollie and forced him to meet his gaze.
"I would have done the same thing. We can deal with the repercussions of it together," Javi soothed before pressing their lips together in a gentle kiss. As they pulled away, a small smile was evident on both their faces.
"Together to the end," Ollie replied.
