Work Text:
You run around Diluc’s office, peeking at the countless decor and books that are scattered throughout the shelves. As you flip through the books that are on his desk, you can’t help yourself as you sneak a peek at Diluc, his brow creased in frustration as he works over what you can only assume to be paperwork for the winery. Your heart soars at the sight of him working so diligently, his crimson hair falling over his face.
“Can you stop? It’s distracting…” Diluc mumbles, keeping his eyes glued onto the papers he’s mulling over.
“What, you mean this outfit?” you giggle, pulling the gray dress shirt down. It dwarfs your body, the sleeves going past your fingertips. “I never thought you would be the kind of man to be provoked by his wife wearing his shirt..”
He clears his throat, frowning up at you. However, it doesn’t slip past your sharp eyes that his cheeks are dusted a light pink. “(Name), you know that’s not what I mean,” he says, reaching for a notebook across his desk. “I’m working on the winery’s monthly expenses, and you’re making a bit too much noise.”
Pouting, you walk behind Diluc’s chair and drape your arms around his shoulders, resting your chin on the top of his fluffy hair. “But I’m bored...” you complain. “Everyone around the winery is always working, and they don’t have any time to talk with me.”
You can hear the sense of sarcasm in Diluc’s voice as he responds, unbothered by your antics. “And does the lady of Dawn Winery not have many responsibilities to attend to herself? I do remember that you volunteered to oversee the preparations for the Autumn wine festival…”
“Oh, come on!” you groan, releasing your arms. You step to the side of his desk, a mischievous plan forming in your mind. “That’s not even fair, that festival doesn’t start until October. We’ve been married for two years and you still somehow can’t bring yourself to relax every once in a while...”
“Yes, well, work is still a priority in my life,” he hums, placing his notebook down. You side-eye said notebook, hands itching to steal it away from Diluc. “I’ll take you on a vacation when I have the time to.”
“And as your wife, it’s also my duty to tell you when to relax…!” you cackle, snatching the notebook from his desk. “I’ll be keeping this, thank you very much.”
“Give that back,” he warns, his arm outstretched. “You know that I need that to work.”
“My point exactly, so I’ll be on my way,” you beam, hiding the notebook behind your back, and slowly backing away towards the door.
He sighs, dropping his pen and standing up from his chair. “Do you really want me to chase you around like some sort of child?”
“Maybe…?” you grin, turning on the balls of your feet and running into the hallway. You barely make it out before Diluc’s chasing after you, the thuds of his footsteps dangerously close behind you.
“(Name), just give it back,” Diluc scowls as he comes to a stop. “This is a waste of time.”
“No chance of that happening,” you laugh, breathing heavily as you run up the stairs. You hear your husband groaning behind you as he runs after you up the stairs. You’re gasping for air as you dash across the hall, almost about to reach the washroom, hoping to lock the door behind you when-
You tumble towards the ground, tripping over your own feet as your body skids across the wooden floor. You yelp in pain, inspecting your skin for any scratches or cuts, and find your knee is scraped, blood starting to seep from the wound. Diluc runs to you, notebook long forgotten, his brow creased in concern. “(Name)! Are you alright?” he kneels beside you, supporting your back with a gentle hand. “Did you get any scrapes?”
“Just one on my knee,” you wince, gesturing towards it. “It’s not that bad-”
You aren’t given the chance to finish your sentence as Diluc hoists you into his arms, carrying you bridal-style to the washroom. “Hey, I can do it myself,” you murmur, cheeks heating up at the warmth of his body close to yours.
“Not a chance. I told you not to run around the house with my notebook in your hands, and you did it anyway,” he huffs, setting you down on the washroom’s cold tiles as he rummages for antiseptic and bandages. “You always get hurt like this.”
“It’s not that serious,” you smile as you watch the man in front of you so concerned over a small scrape like this.
“You know I don’t like to see you hurt,” Diluc turns to look at you, eyes softening when they meet yours.
“Well, it’s not like I can help it,” you laugh.
“That is true,” he chuckles and sits in front of you, cleans and dresses your scrape. “You’re just about as clumsy as the day I met you.”
A calm silence encompasses the room as he does so, his face furrowed in concentration. “Diluc,” you whisper, admiring the way his hair falls in front of his eyes. His fingertips just barely brush your skin, gentle and ever-so endearing.
“Hm?”
“Are you still busy for tonight?” you ask, a twinge of hopefulness in your voice.
“Mmmm… Well, I still have to organize the monthly expenses and speak to Ernest about the latest shipment of wine to Fontaine, not to mention start preparations for the Autumn festival that you keep forgetting to do...” he says, finishing the bandaging on your knee.
You sigh, disappointed but not surprised. Thus is the life of one of the busiest people in Mondstadt.
“However…” Diluc smiles, looking up at you with those caring eyes you love so dearly. “I suppose I can make time for an excursion with a certain someone today.”
