Work Text:
An empty box stared right at Shen Wei. He knows how this works. It was supposed to let someone login… to the laptop.
“Password. Password, right.” He mumbled to himself.
Poking gingerly at the keyboard, he slowly inputted what he thought was the password. Seeing the screen remain unchanged, however, it was becoming clear that it was not.
Shen Wei sighed. “Zhao Yunlan.”
Quickly appearing from the bathroom, Zhao Yunlan couldn’t help but sigh at the current predicament, though a very fond smile couldn’t help but appear anyway.
“It’s taped to the back of the laptop.” Zhao Yunlan pointed out and sat down on the couch. Water droplets splattered onto the laptop, as he roughly dried his hair with a towel. And as a result, the only logical course of action was for Shen Wei to take over hair drying duty.
“You know full well how to dry your hair properly.” Shen Wei grabbed the towel, chiding the overgrown child that is Zhao Yunlan.
“But you do it so much better!” He protested, “And besides, I like it when you touch me.”
He hummed appreciatively as he popped a lollipop in his mouth and closed his eyes. Shen Wei blushed slightly as he finished drying Zhao Yunlan’s hair.
Shen Wei looked away and folded the small towel neatly on the table. Lifting the laptop slightly, Shen Wei retrieved the slip of paper and inputted in the password.
Finally making it to the home screen, Shen Wei looked expectantly at Zhao Yunlan.
With mock seriousness, Zhao Yunlan proclaimed, “For doing me the favor of drying my hair, Professor Zhao Yunlan will happily teach Student Shen Wei how to access the Internet.”
Arranging his face into a more serious expression, he added, “Use your powers wisely. We don’t need you to be a computer addict like Lin Jing.”
Shen Wei shook his head in exasperation. “I just need to access my emails.”
“Alright, we can do this. First, you need to press on this to open up the browser.”
All of a sudden, Shen Wei jabbed the screen with his finger.
“Huh? Wait, wait. What are you doing?” Zhao Yunlan looked a bit shocked. “It’s not a touchscreen. You can’t just touch the screen to select things.”
“Oh.” Shen Wei quietly moved his finger back to the touchpad.
“Baby, this isn’t like the silver laptop you’ve used before.”
“It’s not?” Shen Wei looked up, eyes wide in his confusion.
Zhao Yunlan was helpless in the face of such cuteness. “Not all laptops are touchscreen.”
Though it was clear that Shen Wei didn’t quite get it, he let the answer slide and experimentally pressed down on the touchpad.
“Uhh, click twice.”
Shen Wei followed his instructions but clicked too slowly and though the application was highlighted, it didn’t open.
“Click it again, but faster.”
This time, it opened up the browser. To expedite the process, Zhao Yunlan reached over to input the link and showed Shen Wei the email application.
“Just login here and it’ll open up your emails.”
Shen Wei stared thoughtfully at the computer screen. “Why do you have to double-click to open it but single-click everything else?”
Zhao Yunlan paused, grappling for an answer. When one didn’t present itself, he could only answer with, “...It’s like the self-destruct button in the movies. You need to remove the cover before you can push the big red button. It's two steps.”
The look he got in response was of pure skepticism. “Opening up a browser is the same as self-destructing an aircraft?”
“Well, no. But it’s just how it works.”
Shen Wei once again refrained from asking further questions. Somehow, he successfully managed to open up his email in one try.
Showing him how to read and send emails, Zhao Yunlan finally managed to get Shen Wei to understand the basics after a short while.
“Thank you, Yunlan.”
“Anything for you.”
A few days later, Zhao Yunlan wonders if “anything” was a little too far.
“Yunlan, I seem to have lost my emails.”
“What do you mean ‘lost your emails’?”
