Chapter Text

All I ever wanted was for Choi Beomgyu to leave me alone.

It all started in the summer before 2nd grade. My parents decided to move into a quiet suburban neighborhood. My family consisted of my father, mother, Yeonjun, and me. I mean the neighborhood was nice enough and I frankly didn't care, until Choi Beomgyu came into my life.

I was helping my father unload the moving van when suddenly I see a boy my age, a bit taller than me, running towards us.

I was confused at first. Who was this boy and what did he want?

He introduced himself as Choi Beomgyu and I introduced my self as Kang Taehyun, turning away hoping he would leave afterwards. Instead, he did the opposite and I gave him a look when he started grabbing for the boxes, trying to unload them.

My father put his hand on the box to stop him. "Oh no no, I'm afraid that box is too heavy for you son" he said with a tight lipped smile.

"Oh, ok, I'll take this one instead then!" he replied smiling. Once again, my father stopped him and told him that was too fragile for him to hold. This went on for a couple of minutes, with my dad making as many excuses as he could trying to prevent him from taking the boxes. In reality, only a couple of minutes had passed, but for me it felt like an eternity. I then realized that this boy really couldn't take a hint.

"Taehyun, son, I think you're mother needs help unpacking in the kitchen" my father said. I looked up at him confused and as we made eye contact he gave me a wink. Oh, my father was making up an excuse for me to leave!

"O-oh yeah!" I replied a little too enthusiastically. I turned and started walking towards my house. I hadn't even gotten that far when I heard footsteps behind me trying to catch up.

I didn't have to turn around to figure out who it was. I was running out of patience with every step I took. He really won't give it up, will he? I thought to myself.

I turned around to tell him to leave me alone, but I accidentally held his hand instead. Now, how did that happen you ask? Well, apparently he was reaching out to me to tap my shoulder, but in that exact moment I turned around, moving my hand to shoo him away, our hands catching each other.

I stood there in shock not knowing what to do. I was panicking when we made eye contact and he smiled at me. He smiled at me?!?!?!

Just then, my mother walked out of the house, calling for me. So, I did what any reasonable 1st grader would've done. I went and hid behind my mother.

Beomgyu introduced himself to my mother and they talked for a while until Beomgyu's mom told him to come home for dinner.

Little did I know, that was only the start of the chaos.
