A Rainy Day

Summary:

A rainy day full of cuddles and cooking with Kai

Made this for my friend so that it would buy me tea, fuck yeah.

Work Text:

The beat of his heart thumps against your back, softly, to the tapping of rain. His arms wrapped lazily, yet securely, around you. You both lay in bed, too tired to do much else. It seems this energy comes with the rain... a certain calm and comfort washes over Kai theses days.

You find it's rare you see him like this, and so you always seem to sink into the feeling with him. It's silent, and the beats of his heart act as a way to keep the passing of time.

A few more beats hit your back before you hear him take a sharp breath of air, right above your ear.

"Casper..." He breaks the silence, and his voice makes you want to turn around. To look him in the face while he speaks, but you're far too comfortable in this little spoon position. You don't say anything, but you don't have to, as Kai starts to speak again.

"I have been thinking lately... about the future... what lies ahead." This really makes you want to turn and look at him. What does his face say? Is he upset? Does he wish to break up? Or... does he feel truly the same as you? And the future you both imagine is more sunny than the present?

"When I see you..." Again, he doesn't give you a moment to answer. "When I lay with you like this... I am... overcome with this...  feeling?" You can tell he's struggling to express his feelings, and that this is all too foreign to him.

"Kai..." You start but are cut off.

"You are significant to me, Casper..." His hand slides from your stomach to your hand, and lays softly on top of it. Not quite holding it, just... letting you know it's there. At this you can't help but smile softly, and fully move yourself so that you can look at him.

Now face to face in his arms you watch his face mix with emotions. There was some embarrassment, obvious from the red tinted the tops of his ears. Mixed with nervousness and dissatisfaction... it was clear he didn't know how to tell you how he felt. And that to him, the right words were hard to find and he wasn't telling you what he felt he needed to.

A larger smile stretched onto your cheeks and you couldn't help but laugh a bit, causing Kai to get a bit confused. He opened his mouth to ask you why you were laughing but you cut him off, pressing your foreheads together lightly.

"I know, dear. I love you too." You said, watching as Kai smiled ever so softly.

He pulls you closer and you hear that ever so rare chuckle pass his lips, and even though it's so light... it surrounds you and deafens the sound of the rain pattering outside your window.

A few beats of silence pass, and your hearts finally sync together before he opens his mouth to speak once more.

"Shall I make you some sushi?"

You had to stiffle your laughter this time, knowing that it would only confuse your poor boyfriend. Of course it didn't surprise you much that he asked you this question, he always loved to cook for you it was just... out of the blue.

"I would love that." You said with a smile, letting yourself feel those last bits of comfort and warmth as he slid his arms off of you and began to get off the bed. Man.... you missed cuddling already.

You let out a small groan as you stood up yourself, sqeezing your eyes shut and stretching as your body got used to moving again. By the time you opened your eyes you realized that Kai was already gone. You rolled your eyes playfully before leaving the bedroom and making your ways toward the kitchen.

The sounds of running water and rice  greeted you before your own boyfriend did. Though he barley acknowledged you when you entered the kitchen anyway, but... this was his place of expertise, so you weren't that surprised or offended.

"Hey, why don't I help today?" You found yourself asking without much thought.

Kai froze for a second, before looking up from his work at you. Huh, you were really good at shocking him today it seemed. He thought it over for a few seconds before nodding his head lightly.

"I think that would be pleasant." He said, causing you to break out in a huge grin and run over to the sink to wash your hands.

With ecstatic giggles you bounced over to Kai, very excited to cook with him. It was  exceedingly rare for him to let you do this, in fact you had only cooked with him once before.

Kai handed you a knife and some fish, salmon, and began to teach you the proper way to cut it.

"Slightly angle the knife to the left... draw the knife towards the entire meat, and pull the knife towards..." He voice started to fade into the background as you realized just how intimate this situation was. His hands on yours, guiding you, his body bent down you your height so that his mouth was right next to your ear... it was hard to focus. And that loss of focus caused you to slip up, and that knife grazed your finger.

"Shit!" You hissed and pulled your hand away, moving to the side and flapping your hand in pain. Really the cut wasn't so bad, you could already tell it was no worse than a papercut but... it scared you more than anything.

"Forgot I was supposed to be cutting the fish not my finger." You joked, holding your finger in your opposite palm before looking back up at Kai...

That poor boy.

He looked so worried in that moment, frozen for just half a second before wordlessly carrying you over to the bathroom, ignoring you as you tried to convince him that you were okay. He sat you down on the toilet and got down on his knees, opening up your palm to get at your finger.

Still, as silent as a mouse, he began to clean your wound. Focusing on nothing but you'd injury. At this point you slipped into silence as well, knowing that it was just best to let him do this. That he wasn't listening right now anyway.

Once he was finished, and the bandaid was finally wrapped around your finger, he spoke.

"I'm sorry."

"Me too."
He didn't seem to like this and frowned slightly.

"No I'm at fault, I should have been more careful I... have the most experience." He said, trying to take the blame for your own wound.

"I want paying attention, Kai. This is just the consequence of my actions." You smiled softly, taking his hands and bringing them up to your lips to kiss his knuckles.

"How about I stay outta the kitchen today? We'll try this again sometime." You said, trying to ease Kais worry. Luckily it seemed to work as his shoulders lowered a bit, untenseing the muscles.

"I believe that would be that smartest decision." He nodded, getting back on his feet and helping you stand up. You both walked back to the kitchen, and this time you sat at the bar, looking out onto the kitchen to watch him work.

It was at this time you noticed a certain tapping was gone... that white noise that filled the house was suddenly no more. You turned your head to look out the window and hummed.

"The rain is gone."
