Chapter Text
Surviving in the village is hard.
It’s not just the cold weather, the rude neighbors, my complete lack of knowledge of the plants that grow here or the scary monsters, no of course taxes might be the one to finally take me down. I found this farm abandoned. I didn’t think I needed to pay any sort of taxes. I didn’t even know this place had any sort of government! I left the US because of its crazy taxes, to get away from it all but nooooo. Now I'm stuck running around to every possible house I can find, trying to sell some of my crops from the fall before this place gets any colder. It’s already freezing, it doesn’t help that I really only have summer clothes. I’ll get something warmer when I have the money.
This honestly would be fun under normal circumstances, I like talking to people and hearing about people's lives but most people here just buy some veggies and slam their doors before I can try to make any sort of conversation, trust me there have been many attempts.
“Oh like the flowers you planted what kind are they”
“I like your hair, where did you get it done”
“Love that chair in your yard, yeah I can see it’s missing a leg but it adds some nice uhhh vibes?”
“Hey all these other houses are kind of scary, yours has got to be the least scary I've seen so far!”
It's weird, I assume it’s some European thing?
Anyway, I'm at my last stop that I can see, I’m not even sure how I got here, I kind of zoned out and Horse (my dog) led me to these giant gates. It looks like a rich person’s house. You know what rich people have. Money. You know what else rich people have. A very poor concept of what things actually cost.

Why on earth is someone knocking at my door
I was having quite the relaxing afternoon in my chambers when a maid came to alert me that there had been someone knocking at my door. Who on earth is this stupid to come to my house unannounced? Are the villagers really this dumb? Is it that idiot Heisenberg again to torment me and my daughters, he was banned from the family dinners for a reason.
“I swear if it’s you Heisenberg I’ll cut your-”
“Howdy ma’am! Would you like to buy some veggies”
Opening the door (and having to walk under it) reveals not Heisenberg, my other siblings or one of the regular villagers that bother me. No, it is a woman I’ve never seen before with bright but very short red hair. She is wearing much too short pants for the cold and she is walking next to a large hound that seems to be pulling a cart full of crops and assorted farm goods. There is some tugging on the leash of the dog in an attempt to move it over, who seems untroubled and doesn’t move a centimeter. What is this woman doing and what the hell kind of greeting is ‘how-dy’.
“We have a wide variety of um items for you to choose from, all home grown of course! I mean I don't know how something from here wouldn’t be home grown, I haven't seen anything close to a factory except that weird metal work one and I’d me surprised if anything could live there-”
“Excuse m-”
“-not to mention you can barely grow anything here anyway, I mean I wanted to grow corn or okra but it just never gets hot enough and it just can’t grow. I really miss okra. It's good pickled or fried but I mean I don’t have a fryer to what's the point even. You probably haven't had it, It's not really a fancy people food, though I mean u could of course if you would want to”
“What on eart-”
“Oh! I haven’t even introduced myself” the woman dusts her hands off on her, what seems to be very short overalls, then proceeding to stick out her hand “Hi, my names Bobby, most people call me Bo though”
Bo gives what seems to be a very nervous smile as she sticks out her hand. I stare at her. I am mostly just too shocked to respond, I don’t even feel that mad, when I know I should be but I just can’t be. So instead I grab her hand and shake it.
“Hello Bo, I’m Lady Dimitrescu”
The Girl’s hand was um.. Moist which is weird because it is quite cold. Now that I look at her she just seems kind of gross and sticky, like she has been just running around all day, which is concerning. She looks kind of tired now that I’m thinking about it. Wait, why should I care? I just met this woman and she is literally covered in dirt and sweat, she doesn’t even seem to know how to hold a proper conversation.
Who am I even supposed to talk to about this? I have no need to eat any of these things. I mean, I suppose I could ask our chief that cooks for the maids and such, though I’m sure I could handle this myself. I mean I haven’t eaten real food in a long long time but this couldn’t be that hard.

Oh I am so terrified but I think this lady might actually buy something.
Lady Dimitrescu is a giant I think or some sort of goddess, I have no Idea but I know it would be rude to ask so nevermind that. I mean she is just so tall, and I was used to being called tall by other girls back home but I barely made it up to the lady’s hip.
Doesn’t matter though really if this lady buys my veggies and saves me from being homeless “Lady Dimitrescu, that's a lovely name” I say, taking my hand back while I try (and fail) to pronounce this woman’s name the best I can, my accent getting in the way. “So? Would you like to buy any of my vegetables?”
I smile as nicely as possible, trying to convince myself that there is no possible way this lady is single so I might as well stop acting like an utter fool. She looks at me with an almost neutral face which is mildly terrifying but maybe she is just making a decision?
Damn it this better work, what the hell am I supposed to do without a house it’s way too cold to be living outside.
