The Language of Covetous (Mammon x Reader)

Greed was something the [H/C] haired human wondered about often — maybe because it was seen in different forms of the Avatars that sat before them. They wondered if the brothers thought about it too? How their sins are just different forms of greed — maybe they didn't realise it.

Everyone, as far as they know, had someone against it. Though it made perfect sense on why it was considered one of the deadly sins in human writing. Once consumed, the desire for that person, object or fictional thing was intensified by one hundred. Maybe it was considered a sin because of the length people went to. Their acts go as far and even beyond to satisfy their desire even if the hard work almost killed them.

Maybe that's why greed took many forms. Everything people desired, it was just another way of letting their greed take over them to get what they want. Many were greedy for power or wealth or both. People went as far as hurting others or ending their lives to get what they wanted.

The exchange student shook their head as they watched Beelzebub do push-ups, filming him for him to observe later on to critique his form. Their own thoughts disappeared when the orange haired demon pushed to stand up, [Y/N] stopped recording and gave him back his phone.

“Thank you,” he mumbled and engulfed the human in a sweaty hug.

“You’re welcome,” they smiled at him and waved good-bye, leaving him to his own devices.

The human wandered through the House of Lamentation — pondering about the second born white haired demon. They have seen how greed could be used to advantage of a person rather than a disadvantage, a thing the [H/C] still got surprised about when seen in action. Maybe it was the fact his greed would get him in trouble or cause trouble for the other brothers — especially when he got the human involved. There were times when he did make up for the time he wasted, even if it was in that wishy washy romantic act of his.

They sighed until they heard something strange coming from the second born’s room. [Y/N] paused and pressed their body against the door silently to hear what's going on and then quietly opened the door and peeked inside, what they saw made them scratch their head metaphorically. Mammon didn't notice the door opening as he continued doing whatever he was doing.

“And this is done I’m sure the human will be pleased by this and be impressed by it,” the white haired demon exclaimed, impressed by his own work.

The second born was surprised by the human’s presence when he looked up, backing away in shock as the human smirked at him. [Y/N] picked up the present and turned the item around, examining closely.

“What is this supposed to be?” they asked the greedy demon.

Mammon cheeks flushed red as he looked side to side and everywhere in his room, as long as he didn't make eye contact with the exchange student. Looking away from them; he muttered quietly, “A present for you.”

The human pretending to not hear what he said, put one of their hands to one of their ears and asked again, “WHAT?”

“A PRESENT FOR YOU!”

The [H/C] smiled and held the present in their hands, despite not knowing what it was meant to be, they said, “I like it.”

Mammon’s cheeks became redder at their compliment. He let out an embarrassed scoff and mumbled, “You don't have to lie to me.”

The human examined the gift in scrutiny, the rectangular shaped bottle with curved edges felt nice in the palm of their hands. The label shining gold under the white ceiling light with the golden details and text glittering. It may have looked simple to anyone else but [Y/N] could see the effort Mammon took in putting the present together. They also noticed the engravings on the glass of the bottle and ran their fingers to feel it.

“What is it supposed to be?” they queried the second born.

“A customised wine suited to your taste.”

The [H/C] took the eager demon’s hand and together, they left the room and entered the empty kitchen. Mammon watched the human take out wine glasses and set everything up, pouring the wine in the glasses.

“Come on,” [E/C] muttered, swirling the wine around in the glass, “take a sip.”

“It’s a gift for you!” Mammon screeched but the exchange student shoves the other wine glass into his tanned hands and forces him to take a sip.

Watching the way his cheeks flushed red as he forcibly took a sip, they let a little smirk spread against their face, “I’m sharing the wine with your generous ass.”

The white haired demon let out a small huff and they both sat in a comfortable silence, drinking the wine and taking in the smell and taste of the alcohol. The [H/C] wondered about the demon drinking across from them, the extreme hunger he desired for all things gold and items that exhibited great wealth. They thought about how he was before he rebelled with his brothers and fell down into Devildom. Was he the complete opposite of his current self back in the Celestial Realm?

“Hey Mammon,” they hummed out and placed the glass down, “do you ever wonder that one of these days, your own greed could potentially get you killed?”

“What do you mean by that?”

They paused and thought about how to make it understandable for the Avatar of Greed, “It's just the way you put yourself in harm’s danger without much thought of your life being on the line. You always have Lucifer to save you or get you out or you end up dragging us in. What happens if you have none of that when you get into trouble one day? Who’s going to save you?”

Mammon paused at their words, thinking them over. The kitchen grew silent at [Y/N]’s words. It was soon broken by the entrance of Beelzebub’s appearance. The orange demon waved at the two and went to the fridge, scurrying through the contents. The human and ivory haired demon paused their conversation, letting the silence settle in again while the Avatar of Gluttony presence hovered in the room. Soon the orange haired demon left but the conversation was soon forgotten as the two finished off the wine and Mammon dragged the human outside.

The topic was never mentioned again between the two for the rest of the day and that only left the [E/C] eyed human to wonder what he was going to say. Maybe it was a call out to the Avatar of Greed of how much his actions affected himself over everyone else.

[Y/N] shook away their thoughts and smiled as they bumped into the familiar looking brown haired angel. Simeon turned around and saw the human exchange student, “Hello [Y/N].”

“Hello Simeon, are you here to shop for tonight’s dinner?”

The angel nodded at their words and the human called out to Mammon, “Mammon you can go home alone, I’m going to tag along with Simeon.”

Mammon heard their words and walked over in a rush, grasping their arm, “No, I’m coming along.”

“Sure.”

Simeon only smiled and shook his head in amusement at the exchange of the two in front of him. He sighed and decided to let them tag along with him, hearing them banter and Mammon complain about his presence with the human.

Ah, what a love sick demon, he thought in delight.
