My first fanfic that I would consider good enough to post. I have no idea how AO3 formatting works so bear with me if it looks like actual garbage, the words are good I promise.

Work Text:

Brigitte opened her eyes, her alarm clock beeping. She sat up and shut it off, turning to her left and looking through the floor-to-ceiling window that made up one of the walls of her room. She wasn’t worried about anyone taking a look through it since the only other person for miles was her girlfriend, Hana Song.

Outside, the sun was already well above the horizon, even though her alarm clock said it was only eight in the morning. Since they had arrived, the sun had been in the same spot, a quirk of being so close to one of the Earth’s poles. The sky was clear, as was the ground, with nothing to see but a mostly flat expanse of snow and ice stretching as far as Brigitte could see. Ecopoint Antarctica wasn’t exactly a tourist spot, but it was what was inside the base that kept her from losing her sanity.

She had expected it to be a good time, being stuck in a small building with her girlfriend and nothing for them to do but cuddle for a month, but Hana was making it quite the opposite. She rarely set foot in Brigitte’s room, staying in her room playing her goddamned video games all day. Brigitte wondered if Hana even slept anymore. She already had quite an interesting sleep schedule, but at least she spent some time in bed back in Gibraltar.

I should probably check on her, Brigitte thought. She climbed out of bed, crossing the room, and opening her closet. Nobody would particularly care if she stayed in her underwear all day, but she preferred to at least keep something on in case the base’s heater malfunctioned. She picked out a T-shirt and sweatpants, quickly putting them on before stepping out into the main common room of the base.

The common room was built for somewhere closer to ten people, with two circular couches around a large round table in the middle. Just to the right of Brigitte’s room was half of the kitchen, little more than a few cabinets, a sink, and a microwave. On the other side was a stove, a coffee maker, and a fridge, the latter of which had been opened. Brigitte walked over and investigated, noticing a bottle of soda missing from Hana’s stash on the top shelf. She sighed, leaning down to retrieve a cup of instant noodles from the shelf below. It wasn’t exactly high-class dining, but it was a lot easier than shipping fresh food out to one of the most remote places on Earth.

She set it on the counter next to the microwave, deciding she should check on Hana before making breakfast. Her room was right next to Brigitte’s, the door right on the other side of the kitchen. Brigitte stepped to the side and knocked, waiting a few seconds for a reply. Nothing.

“Hana?” she called. Nothing. She pulled the door handle and it opened, revealing her girlfriend asleep on the floor, a controller in her hand and her console still powered on, the hologram above it asking if she wanted to continue playing. She wasn’t wearing any pants, only a baggy T-shirt from her merch line and her headphones. Her room didn’t have a massive window like Brigitte’s, making the room dark aside from the green glow of the hologram and the light streaming in from the doorway. A trio of plastic bottles stood beside her console, one of them only half-empty. Brigitte reached for the light switch beside the door and flicked it on, illuminating the room and causing Hana to stir. She rubbed her eyes, looking up at her girlfriend standing over her.

“Hey, babe,” she mumbled.

“Hana, how late were you up?” Brigitte asked, concerned. Turning on the light had revealed just how pale Hana’s skin had gotten over the week they had already been here. She didn’t look healthy.

“I dunno, four,” she answered, pushing herself up into a sitting position. “I wasn’t really looking at the time.” Brigitte sighed.

“You need your sleep, Hana. You can’t just stay in here playing games all day,”

“But-”

“No buts. I’ve got to go out and check the survey equipment today and you’re going to come with me. You look like you could use a bit of fresh air.” Hana groaned, leaning over and powering off her console before standing up. “Just think of it as a date,” Brigitte offered, smiling. Hana smiled back, the last comment clearly having worked to lift her spirits. She stood up, getting on her tiptoes to kiss Brigitte on the cheek. Brigitte kissed her back, leaning down slightly.

“I’ll go get dressed,” Hana said, turning to her closet. Brigitte picked up the two empty soda bottles and left the room, taking them to the recycling bin in the common room. She got back to making her breakfast, taking her noodles off the counter and putting it in the microwave. She set the microwave for two minutes as the packaging instructed and took a seat at the table, waiting for Hana or her food to be done, whichever came first.

Hana opened her door, walking into the common room wearing the jumpsuit she typically only wore on missions. Brigitte cocked her head to the side in confusion as Hana walked over and took a seat next to her.

“What? It’s cold out there, and this thing is insulated like crazy,” she explained.

“Is it comfortable?”

“More comfortable than freezing to death.” Brigitte chuckled.

“At least you look good in it,” she joked. Hana smiled, leaning on Brigitte’s shoulder and yawning.

“Are you sure you don’t want to go back to sleep?” Brigitte asked.

“No, I’m just hungry,” Hana dismissed her. “I need breakfast.”

“You can heat something up once mine is done. We’ve got a few more of the noodle cups before we have to start with the other stuff.”

“I don’t need that much. Just a granola bar or something.” She got up, walking over to the cabinets above the microwave and opening them, reaching inside and producing a granola bar. She tore open the packaging and took a small bite, not exactly selling the idea that she was hungry. The microwave beeped, and Brigitte stood up, only to sit back down as Hana grabbed her food for her, along with a pair of disposable chopsticks to eat it with. She sat back down, handing Brigitte her food.

Brigitte hesitantly took the chopsticks, breaking them apart and opening the cup of noodles. She tried to remember what Hana had taught her, holding one chopstick like she would a pencil, and putting the other between her index and middle fingers. She carefully dipped the chopsticks into her noodles, squeezing them together in a failed attempt to grab hold of anything. She pushed them together again, feeling the tips touch and pulling them out, only for the few noodles she had grabbed to fall back into the cup. Hana giggled, noticing her girlfriend’s struggle. Brigitte looked at her, pleading for help.

“You’re hopeless,” Hana joked. She stood up and grabbed a plastic fork from one of the cabinets, bringing it back to Brigitte.

“Thanks. One of these days I’ll figure it out.” She took the fork and began eating, focusing on her noodles as Hana nibbled on her granola bar. By the time Brigitte had finished, Hana was only halfway done.

“Are you sure you’re hungry?” Brigitte asked.

“I’ll finish it later,” Hana said, standing up and moving towards her room. “We’re only gonna be out for an hour or two, right?”

“Yeah, shouldn’t be more than an hour,” Brigitte confirmed. “I’ll get the equipment ready and put on some better clothes.”

...

Brigitte climbed up onto a chunk of ice, putting a hand over her eyes as she looked out into the distance. Even with a pair of polarized ski goggles, it was hard to see past the sun reflecting off the snow. Luckily, the extremely bright landscape made it easy to pick out anything that wasn’t white or blue. The survey beacon was around half a mile away, a tall metal pole with a weatherproof box at the base and a few power cables strewn around it.

Brigitte turned around to check on Hana. She was still a few feet behind her, trying to catch up. She was wearing a heavy winter coat over her jumpsuit and ski goggles over her eyes, making the bottom half of her face the only part that Brigitte could see. However, she seemed determined to make sure that wasn’t the case, as she kept trying to cover the rest of her face with her jacket’s hood. Brigitte wasn’t even sure why she had her hood up in the first place, since the wind wasn’t very strong and the skies were clear.

“How far is it?” she called. She sounded like she would rather be anywhere else.

“It’s right over there. Not too much farther,” Brigitte assured her. “Doesn’t it feel great to get outside after a week of hiding in your room?”

“No, not really,” Hana grumbled. Brigitte sighed.

“What’s gotten into you since we got here?” she asked. “We’re alone in the middle of nowhere with nothing but each other, and all you can do is hide in your room!” Hana took a step back, startled by the outburst. She looked down at the ground shamefully, then looked back up at Brigitte.

“Sorry,” she replied quietly. Brigitte groaned, her temper already lost.

“Sorry?!” she exclaimed. “That’s all you can say?! It’s like you don’t even want to be around me anymore!”

“I…,” Hana stammered. She sounded like she was on the verge of tears. “There’s…” She sobbed, putting a hand up to her face. Brigitte had gone too far.

“Hana, I shouldn’t have-” Hana turned and ran, her hood flying off her head as she sprinted back through the snow towards the base.

Oh, shit, Brigitte thought. She broke into a run, chasing after Hana. “Hana, come back!” she cried. Hana kept running, although she was already starting to slow down. She didn’t have the same athletic build as Brigitte. She eventually stopped running, bending over and grabbing her knees, panting heavily and sobbing as Brigitte caught up to her. Brigitte bent down to look at Hana’s face, but she quickly held up a hand to cover it.

“No!” Hana snapped.

“Hana, I regret what I said back there. I shouldn’t have gotten so angry with you.”

“It’s not that anymore,” Hana cried. She moved her hands away from her face, and Brigitte gasped. Hana’s face was red like she had been sunbathing for hours, despite her face having only been uncovered for a minute at most. She pulled her hood back up over her face. “I need to get inside,” she managed around her tears.

“Hana, what-”

“I… I’ll explain when we’re indoors. I don’t... think I can run anymore.” Without hesitation, Brigitte put an arm behind Hana’s knees, letting her fall back onto her other arm. She lifted Hana up, surprised at how light she felt. She was already a small girl and easy enough for Brigitte to carry, but she felt like she was barely eighty pounds. Brigitte took off back to the base, their mission to check the survey equipment completely forgotten. She had no idea what was wrong with Hana but fixing it was the top priority.

Brigitte ran through the front door of the base, dashing through the common room and beelining for Hana’s bedroom. Hana was still breathing and her eyes were open, but her face was still just as red as it had been before. Brigitte lay Hana down on her bed, looking around the room and panicking.

“Hana, what do you need?” she asked frantically. “What’s going on?”

“Food,” Hana said. Her voice didn’t sound strained at all, and she was already starting to sit up on her own. Brigitte turned and dashed back into the common room, pulling off her coat and goggles and letting them fall to the floor. She grabbed the other half of Hana’s granola bar from breakfast and brought it back to her. Hana took it and brought it up to her mouth, biting off almost all of it.

“What do I do about your face? Does it hurt?” Brigitte asked. “There’s some burn cream in the first aid kit I think.”

“Babe, calm down,” Hana assured her. “I’m fine, this usually goes away after an hour or so.”

“Are you sure? You seem weak. Do you need some more-”

“Brigitte,” Hana insisted. “I’m okay.” She took her coat and ski goggles off, tossing them off the bed. “I’m already feeling better.”

“Well I want to at least put something on your face for that burn,” Brigitte said. “It must hurt.”

“No, it’s fine,” Hana said. Brigitte didn’t listen, leaving the room and heading for the bathroom on the other side of the common room. She opened the door and turned to the first aid bag hanging on the wall, right next to the mirror above the sink. She rested the bag on the sink and started rifling through the contents, pushing the bandages and pain pills out of the way before she found what she was looking for, the burn cream. She set the cream aside and picked up the bag, only to hear Hana’s footsteps coming closer.

“Hana, you should-” Brigitte glanced at the mirror, expecting to see Hana’s reflection standing behind her. It wasn’t there. She spun around to see Hana looking up at her in what looked like embarrassment.

“Oh, um, shit,” Hana muttered. “I forgot about… that.” Brigitte’s eyes went back to the mirror, which showed the reflection of an empty jumpsuit. “I wasn’t planning on telling you any time soon…” Hana began, trying to build up the courage to finish her sentence. “I’m a… uhh.” She hesitated. Brigitte was completely dumbstruck, looking madly between her girlfriend and the mirror.

“You’re a…” Brigitte stammered.

“Vampire!” They said in unison, Brigitte drowning Hana out with her exclamation.

“I’m a vampire,” Hana repeated. “That’s why my face is all red. I can’t go out in the sun.”

“You… what… how?”

“That’s why I’ve been staying in my room. Even with the curtains closed, I can’t be in there for more than a few minutes.”

“It explains so much,” Brigitte murmured. Hana stayed awake so late because she was literally nocturnal. She stayed inside of her Meka during combat missions because it protected her from the sun. She always locked the door to the bathroom, even when she was just washing her face or fixing her hair.

“I’m tired because I haven’t had anything to drink in a really long time,” Hana said. “Food helps, but I can’t really live off of it.” Brigitte stared at her, confused. “Blood, babe. I need blood.”

“Hold on,” Brigitte said. “We’ve been dating for a year and a half now. How long have you been a vampire and I never knew about it?”

“A few months now,” Hana answered. “Angela turned me.”

“Wait, what?!” Brigitte exclaimed. Hana giggled.

“Yeah, why do you think she looks so young? She’s like, a hundred years old.”

“So, does anyone else…?”

“No, it’s just our little secret. And Fareeha’s. And Ana’s. And now yours too I guess,” Hana said. “But we’re the only two vampires in Overwatch.”

“What the hell,” Brigitte whispered. “So, can you turn into a bat or turn invisible or anything cool?” Hana laughed.

“Well, I can do this.” She opened her mouth, showing her top row of teeth as her canines extended, sharpening into fangs that were easily two inches long. They returned to normal instantly, and Hana closed her mouth, smiling. Brigitte stared at her for a moment, still in shock.

“Why didn’t you tell me earlier?”

“I didn’t know how you would feel about it. It’s pretty weird having a girlfriend who drinks blood.”

“Well… it’s growing on me,” Brigitte said. Hana laughed. “Listen,” Brigitte began, “I’m really sorry. If I had known about all this I wouldn’t have gotten mad.”

“No, it’s my fault,” Hana consoled her. “I should have told you earlier. Angela told me to as soon as she bit me, but I was too scared to, and now look what ended up happening.”

“We both messed up,” Brigitte offered. “What’s done is done, and at the end of the day, I still love you.”

“I love you too, babe.” Hana wrapped her arms around Brigitte, and she returned the favor, embracing her girlfriend and squeezing, making sure to not accidentally crush her. She wasn’t sure if it was just the jumpsuit or the fact that they had been outside, but she felt cold. Brigitte let Hana go, and they both stood there, looking at each other for a moment. Hana’s face was already returning to normal, the red giving way to her paler than usual skin. She looked anxious like there was something she wanted to say. Brigitte had a guess as to what it was.

“You want to drink my blood, don’t you,” she ventured. Hana looked down at the floor, nodding.

“Yeah,” she said sheepishly. “I’ve never gone this long without it, and it’s been really hard to control myself lately.”

“Will it turn me into a vampire?” Brigitte asked. “That’s what happens in the movies.”

“No, we have to choose to turn people. Usually, we just suck them dry,” Hana said. “I’m not gonna suck you dry,” she added after a terrifying pause. “That’s what Angela does with Fareeha sometimes. Drinks some of her blood, but not enough to really hurt her.” Brigitte breathed a sigh of relief.

“Well, if it’ll make you feel better, I’ll do it,” she said.

“Oh, thank you!” Hana exclaimed, hugging her girlfriend again. “I mean, uh, thanks. Now let’s get to it!”

“I’d love to, Hana, but this is kind of a lot for right now,” Brigitte said. “Maybe after dinner.”

"Well, you’re gonna be my dinner, so I don’t think that’s gonna work out,” Hana joked. They both laughed, and Brigitte leaned over to kiss Hana on the cheek.

“I love you,” she said. “It’s really cool that I’ve got a vampire girlfriend.”

Brigitte sat at the common room table, picking at one of the last few bowls of instant noodles they had. Hana sat across from her, staring longingly at her. She was noticeably agitated, eager to get her fangs into Brigitte. Brigitte took another bite of her noodles, trying to eat as quickly as she could so she could get this over with faster. As much as she loved Hana, she wasn’t nearly as excited about the prospect of being bitten.

“It’s not gonna hurt, is it?” she asked.

“It didn’t hurt too much when Angela bit me,” Hana said. “Just a little prick and she was done.”

“Like a shot,” Brigitte said.

“Yeah, it felt like that,” Hana agreed.

“Except that she’s been doing it for a really long time, and you haven’t really worried about hurting people when you bite them,” Brigitte added.

“Hey, out of all the people I’ve bitten, most of them didn’t complain about it,” Hana retorted. “Plus, Angela let me practice on Fareeha once. She wanted to make sure I was ready for whenever I ended up telling you about this.”

“Were you as good as Angela?”

“Of course not, that was my first time biting anyone,” Hana said. Brigitte giggled.

“So why’d you become a vampire anyway?”

“Honestly, it just seemed really cool,” Hana laughed. “I caught Angela sucking Fareeha’s blood, she explained everything to me, and I told her I wanted her to make me a vampire too.”

“What’s so great about it?” Brigitte questioned.

“Not having to sleep,” Hana answered. “As long as I get enough blood I can stay up as long as I want. Heck, I don’t even need to breathe. I just do it so people don’t get suspicious.” Brigitte laughed, taking her last bite of noodles.

“You became a vampire to stay up past your bedtime?”

“Yeah, I guess I did,” Hana chuckled. Brigitte pushed her cup of noodles towards the middle of the table, signaling that she was finished. Hana bolted upright, eyes gleaming with anticipation.

“Woah,” Brigitte chuckled, startled by her girlfriend’s excitement.

“Sorry, I’m just really thirsty,” Hana apologized. “I just wanna bite into your neck and-”

“Save it for the bedroom, Hana,” Brigitte said. She stood up, followed closely by Hana as she headed for her bedroom. She took off her shirt, leaving it on the floor as she sat down on Hana’s bed. Hana flicked on the lights and began disrobing as well, reaching around the back of her jumpsuit and opening it up to completely reveal her top half. She pulled off the legs, leaving her in only her panties.

“Do you usually not wear a bra under that thing?” Brigitte asked.

“It sort of works,” Hana said.

“Also, why are you getting naked? I’m the one getting bitten here.”

“Are you complaining?” Hana replied, sitting down next to Brigitte. She couldn’t argue with that. “Now, sit in the middle of the bed. If you pass out you won’t land on the floor.”

“If I what?” Brigitte asked, moving to the middle of the bed and sitting cross-legged.

“It’s gonna be hard for me to control myself, okay,” Hana instructed her as she moved behind her. Brigitte felt her hands on her shoulders. They weren’t quite freezing, but they were definitely cold. “If you start feeling weird, tell me to stop. If I don’t, squeeze my hand as hard as you can.” She reached her left hand around Brigitte, resting it on her thigh. Brigitte put her fingers around it, shuddering as Hana pressed her body up against her back. Despite their lack of human warmth, Brigitte could still easily recognize Hana’s breasts pressing just below her shoulder blades.

“I’m ready when you are,” Brigitte said shakily. Her stomach was tying itself into knots. She felt Hana move, and suddenly there was a stab of pain on the right side of her neck, right where it met the shoulder. The pain was gone as quickly as it had come, and Hana moaned quietly as Brigitte began to feel suction. Even Hana’s lips were cold against her skin. Brigitte felt liquid beginning to flow down her back, only for Hana’s tongue to lap it up. Hana turned her hand over beneath Brigitte’s, entwining her fingers with her’s as she continued to drink, breathing quickly and heavily. She felt warmer, the heat spreading down her body from her lips. Brigitte’s eyelids felt heavier.

“Hana, stop.” Hana only moaned in response, continuing to drink. “Hana!” Brigitte repeated. She kept going, and Brigitte’s vision began to darken around the edges. She squeezed Hana’s hand, adrenaline kicking in. Hana’s fangs retracted, and she licked the last drops of blood from the bite before reluctantly pulling away. She sighed with pure happiness, resting her chin on Brigitte’s shoulder.

“You have no idea how good that was,” she gasped. “I feel amazing! I fucking love you, babe!” She kissed Brigitte on the cheek, her lips as warm as she remembered them being. Brigitte turned around to face Hana. Her skin was less pale, though still slightly lighter than normal. She kissed her on the lips, and Brigitte could taste blood.

“I looooove you too,” Brigitte murmured, her mind slowed to a crawl. “Nez time, don’ drink so mush.” She fell to the side, her head landing on a pillow.

“It’s not my fault you taste so damn good.” Brigitte closed her eyes and felt the warmth of Hana’s arms around her just before she drifted off.

I've decided to use the mere mention of Pharah and Mercy as an excuse to write a sequel. Stay tuned.
