“Come on, there has to be something you like!” Sakura huffed, a bag of jellybeans in one hand while the other was tempted to reach out and throttle her friend.
Gentle lavender gazed up at her, a smirk on his face, “I told you already, I don’t like sweets.”
It had been weeks since their yearly get together, and after all this time, she still hadn’t found a candy the Hyuuga liked. Every year, a party was hosted at one of the Konoha 11’s houses and each time she had taken to setting out sweet snacks and desserts the group enjoyed. Ever since the first party, Neji had been a constant thorn in her side, never once eating more than she forced him, and she was beginning to grow tired of the relentless game. After all this time, she had made it her mission to hound the Hyuuga until he spilled the beans. Which was what brought her here to the Hyuuga compound, a seemingly uninterested Neji drinking his tea in quiet contentment while she raved over her latest failure.
“And I’m telling you, there’s something out there for everyone!” She bit back, staring down at him angrily, “Come on! It’s been like five years, can’t you just tell me what you like?”
Neji smiled, a chuckle on his lips as he gazed up at the irritated kunoichi, “Where’s the fun in that?”
“Oh you’re impossible,” she bit out, opting for a swift kick to his side. She barely had time to register the hand wrapped around her calf before she was yanked to the ground, her candy spilling over the wooden floor.
“You jerk!” she hissed, swatting his hand away and moving to sweep up the ruined treat.
“Hey, you started it,” he grunted, a glint of amusement shining in lavender eyes, “besides they weren’t that good anyway.”
Sakura shot him a glare over her shoulder, picking up the remnants angrily, “Says you. I’m starting to think you just don’t have any taste.”
“That’s hardly fair,” he argued, sitting up and helping to gather the rest, “You just haven’t found what I’m looking for.”
Sakura turned, another protest in mind, but it soon died on her lips as Neji’s lips met her own, soft and gentle. She hummed at the taste of jasmine, her hands moving to clutch at his haori. He kissed her fervently, a dazed sort of hunger possessing him and sending her into a state of shock.
It was only as he pulled away that she melted under his gaze, a bout of nerves leaving her speechless. She watched silently as he licked his lips, a smile lighting up the stoic man's face in a rare moment of peace.
“Actually, you might not be too far off,” he hummed, rising from his seat and leaving to dispose of the wasted jellybeans.
A hand moved to her mouth as her tongue darted out, tasting the herbal tea coating her lips, but underneath it lie the remnants of her cotton candy lip gloss.
A blush heated her cheeks and she silently vowed to test her theory a few more times.
