Work Text:
It’s not that you had planned on “changing” him, but six months into it, you began to think that Gojo had no intention of leaving. And the thought made you happy. Megumi had begged you not to do it. Something about a bet and being “the only one left.”
“I actually like you, Y/N. I don’t wanna see you become one of…his women,” sulked Megumi.
“I’m nobody’s woman, Megumi,” you replied, “Besides, I’ve known Gojo for as long as you have. I know what I’m getting myself into,” you said patting Megumi’s head affectionately.
Your relationship with Gojo was bound to happen sooner or later. You went through bouts of pining for him yourself, but as soon as another woman stepped in, the feelings dissipated. It soon became a fact of life. Whenever the both of you were single, Gojo took up a comfortable residence in your heart, feet on the coffee table and all. So when he approached you with, “Y/N, how haven’t we gone out yet?” despite it being worst possible way to ask someone out, you smiled and replied, “Six o’clock.”
Y/N, how haven’t we gone out yet? It truly was a terrible line, but it exposed something. It exposed that Gojo would rather believe that the thought slipped your minds rather than believe it was a conscious choice. The question also implied that you two should have gone out earlier which meant that Gojo had thought about it for as long as you have. Perhaps he did not harbor the same feelings, but he had entertained the idea for long enough and still had not gotten bored of it. It was worth a shot. Thus began two months of casual dating.
“Y/N?” murmured Gojo from behind you one early morning.
“Mmm?” you replied.
“You seeing anyone else?”
“No, ‘Toru.”
“Neither am I.”
You turned towards him and leveled your face with his. “Can we make this exclusive then?” you asked.
A slow smile spread over Gojo’s face as he turned to lie on his back and clasped his hands behind his head. “Yeah.”
The last thing you expected Gojo to be was clingy. He had always been a bit off about physical space, getting far too close to people he cares about. Despite that, had always seemed distanced with his previous partners. You assumed he would be the same way with you. However, he surprised you later the same day you two made the relationship official by grabbing you as you passed in a hallway and planting a passionate kiss against your lips. And since then, he hadn’t been able to leave you alone. It didn’t matter who or what was around. If you were there, Gojo found a way to touch you. You soon got used to random forehead kisses during meetings where he really should have been paying attention and handholding during training sessions. In fact, you grew to love it.
After six months of dating Gojo Satoru, even Megumi had ceased to be on guard about the situation. Kugisaki and Yuji frequently tried to get you spill secrets about their teacher. It began to feel strange to have separate rooms. Gojo’s stuff was in yours, and your was in Gojo’s. His face was usually the first one you saw in the morning. Going on missions together was what you were worried about the most, but your teamwork actually improved. Sometimes, Gojo would get the idea to get a hotel for the night instead of returning to the school right away. His response upon you two returning was always, “Some curses are tricky, y’know?” and he would smile and lead you away by the hand.
One particularly warm day, you and Gojo were watching the second-years and first-years train with each other. You were lying with your head in Gojo’s lap, and he had a hand on your head. “Oh! I wanted to say happy six month anniversary!” he said.
You turned your head to look up at him. “I didn’t even remember the exact day. Good job!” you reached up and patted him on the cheek.
He chuckled before growing a little more serious. “Y/N…how long do you think we’ll be together?”
“As long as we’re supposed to be together,” you said quietly. You turned your head away and gritted your teeth. You were bracing yourself for the end. Over time, the thought of Gojo breaking up with you had become less of a hanging threat but a threat nonetheless. Gojo pulled your face towards him again.
“I’m going to say something, Y/N, and I’m going to mean it,” he said.
“Okay,” you replied.
“I know what infinity looks like…” he paused before continuing.
“Ok, master sorcerer, your point?” you asked anxiously, waiting for it to come. Waiting for him to say that it’s been fun, but it’s over.
“Y/N…I know what infinity looks like, and I…” he paused again and smiled lifting a corner of his blindfold so you could see one eye, “I see it when I look at you.”
You leaned up and kissed him, and he kissed you back enthusiastically. “Uhh, Gojo-sensei? Gojo-sensei?” you heard Yuji ask insistently.
You broke away from the kiss, but Gojo still held you close. “Yuji?” he answered.
“Since you’re enjoying yourself so much, we can cut training short today, right?”
“…sure.”
