It was a cold night. The washing had just come out of the dryer and on a cold night there is nothing better than dryer warmed sheets when sleeping. So there Sykkuno was in the middle of making his and Corpse’s bed. When buying this monstrosity of a bed Corpse didn’t think into the future for poor, poor Sykkuno… He was only a small man, not that small but he couldn’t reach the end of the King-sized bed. This made making the bed a massive chore. They liked to take it turns and this time around Sykkuno had the job of the fitted sheet, the hardest part according to Corpse while Corpse was behind him fighting with the duvet and pillows. As Sykkuno struggled with the corners of the fitted sheet something was thrown at his head. He looked down to see one of the pillows.
“Eh?” Sykkuno questioned as he stopped what he was doing and stared at the pillow. A rich chuckle was heard from the middle of the room. Corpse came closer to Sykkuno, placing a hand on his back as he put the rest of the pillows in the middle of the bed. They smiled at each other.
Sykkuno was stuck on the last corner of the sheet. Then something landed next to him. There sat a little frog plushie; it sat, smiling up at him. Sykkuno heard movement from behind him and another snicker. There was another bump to his head, this one rolled down his back and landed on the floor by his foot. He looked down and there was the little teddy Corpse had got him a couple months back. Sykkuno smiled to himself, and then to the little teddy that sat on its side.
He had finally got the last corner round their mattress. Picking up the pillows Corpse had already placed by his side, he started to hum to himself. He grabbed the frog and placed him in the middle of the pillows. He then reached for the teddy that was at his feet. As he went to pick it up something else was thrown at him. He felt it on his back, then he heard a smash.
Corpse threw another teddy bear at Sykkuno expecting it to land in a similar fashion as the others. This one, however, had a different idea. It bounced off Sykkuno’s back, hit the full water bottle that was placed on the side which then fell backwards and hit a glass.
Sykkuno’s eyes went wide and turned around, picking up the bear by his foot and placing it on the bed. As he turned, he saw Corpse standing in the middle of the room with a hand covering his mouth. His one visible eye wide in shock.
“Corpse?” Sykkuno questioned and followed his eyeline. There on the side table, lay a smashed glass, an identical bear lies at the bottom of the side table, away from the glass. “Hey, don’t worry about it.”
“I’m sorry!” came Corpse’s response. “Oh god, I’m so sorry.”
“Hey, I said don’t worry.” Sykkuno smiled at Corpse, his hand held up in front of him, signalling for Corpse to calm down. “I can sort it. It just a glass, don’t panic Sweetheart.” As Sykkuno said this he turned to the side table and started to pick up the larger pieces of glass and place them into what was left of the base of the glass. He then stared at the smaller shards of glass. Without thinking he swept them into a small pile using his hands. Picking up the bass of the glass and placing it at the edge of the side table, he brushed it in using his hands.
“I really am sorry!” Corpse mumbled.
“Ah.” Sykkuno let out a quiet pained cry. “It’s fine really, it’s just a glass.” He stood there with the glass in his hand. He then passed it to Corpse, “Can you put this in the kitchen please Sweetheart, I’ll deal with it in the morning.”
As Corpse took the glass and walked to the kitchen, Sykkuno went to the bathroom. He got there and turned on the light to inspect his hand in more detail. There was a tiny shard of glass stuck in his palm. He tried to take it out, but he just couldn’t get it. He let out a sigh of annoyance at the shard and stared at it. A knock on the door brought him back to reality.
“Can I help?” Corpse questioned.
“Oh… er.” Sykkuno looked at his hand, looked at Corpse and sighed, “Please.”
Corpse moved closer to him and looked him in the eyes, “I really am sorry Sy. I didn’t-“
“Corpse if you were sorry you’d get the glass in my hand out of me.” Sykkuno joked, smiling up at Corpse. The 1 inch hight different becoming really noticeable in this moment.
“Right.” Corpse nodded. He searched the side of the sink for tweezers. Once he had them, he washed them with soap under the tap. Dried off the end on a clean piece of tissue then took Sykkuno’s hand in his own. He looked for the glass and noticed it at the bottom of his palm. “Sorry, this will only take a moment.”
“If you apologies one more time- Ow!” Sykkuno was interrupted by a sharp pain in his hand and Corpse yanked to shard out of his palm.
Corpse looked Sykkuno in the face and smirked, “Sorry…” He then took Sykkuno’s hand and placed it under the tap. “Wash your hand with soap to make sure it’s clean.”
“Yes Sir!” Sykkuno retorted, doing as he was told. Corpse smiled at him, something gleaming in his eyes. Once his hands were dry, Sykkuno walked back into the bedroom. Corpse followed. “Since I have been mortally wounded by you, you can make the rest of the bed.” Sykkuno demanded, sitting at the desk on the opposite side of the room.
Corpse looked at him, walked over to him and took Sykkuno’s hand into his own. Eye’s meeting eyes, “I really am sorry,” He whispered. Sykkuno opened his mouth to complain but Corpse beat him to it, “Oops I forgot, what are you going to do to me now… Sir.”
Sykkuno went red from the neck up, snatching his hand from Corpse, placing his hand in front of his face. He looked up at Corpse for the second time that night and pushed him away with a chuckle, “Oh just get on with it will you Sweetheart, the bedding is no longer warm, and I don’t want you to complain your cold… again.”
Corpse shrugged then lent closer to Sykkuno placing his mouth next to his ear, smirking, “I know a way we can make it warm again… Sir.”
