Work Text:
“No more running….”
Douxie was on his knees, sobbing and hugging himself completely, wishing he was hugging Archie instead to comfort him, embrace him, and for Nari to hold his hand once more…
He lost everything he ever had. The reality of everything came crashing down on him.
The pain and torture after sacrificing himself to the order for Nari.
The guilt of having Nomura’s death on his hands.
The regret of not being there to save Archie or his father.
The mere seconds away from death he was at the hands of Nari.
And failing Merlin’s dying wishes and last words to him.

“You must protect Nari no matter what. Promise me that, and don’t---”
“But master!”
“’But master’ me.”
Douxie laughs softly.
“Good luck, Master Wizard,” Merlin and Morgana walk into the bright light.
“Safe travels, master wizards....”

Douxie screamed in sorrow. His eyes glow blue. Magic pulsates around him, sending the rest of the group behind him staggering back. Chunks of rocks and runes began to circle around him.
Claire looked at Douxie in sorrow and fear. ”We need to get to him! He might hurt himself!”
A rock was heading towards them. Varvatos kicks it out of the way. He needed to do something.
Vex speaks up. ”Varvatos will go. It is too dangerous for you younglings.”
Dodging rocks, Varvatos approached the wizard. He seemed so small. Despite apparently being an ancient powerful wizard, he looked only some years older than Aja and Krel.
Douxie was still crouched over on his knees, hugging himself. His eyes were bright blue, tears slowly coming out of them. It was like he was in a trance.
His voice was loud from the magic, but sounded so broken.
“Please. Leave me alone” That was a lie.
“Varvatos knows what it is like to lose a family, to fail a mission, and...to be unable to fulfil a promise.”
Douxie trembled.
“The pain of losing Varvatos' family was immense, so many mistakes were made, before and after, but just like me, you can always find a new--”
“NO!” Douxie begins to levitate, rocks and runes flying faster, tears falling harder.
“I REFUSE TO LEAVE THEM!!!! I CAN’T LEAVE THEM!!! NOT AFTER 900 YEARS!!!!” Douxie’s voice echoed all throughout the park.
Varvatos remains silent. The wizard is much, much older than he thought.
Douxie sighs in pure defeat and exhaustion. Everything calms down. The rocks stop spinning, and he drops back to his knees, hugging himself again.
Oh how he absolutely ached for Archie to be in his arms right now.
“Please....not after 900 years....not after failing her...not after failing Merlin.”
“I.....” is all Vex could really say...He walked over to the wizard and kneels right in front of him.
Douxie slowly unwraps his arms from himself and tirelessly cries into Vex’s large arms. “It’ll never be the same....”
Varvatos sighs. “I know”
