Chapter Text

September 15th, 2049, Tokyo tower, Tokyo 3:53am

          “Fox, I’ve arrived into position.”

“Alright. Lion, Everything's in its place. Do I have the signal to initiate the plan?”

         "No, not yet."

A figure dressed in black sat on the ledge of the tall skyscraper. The person was looking down into its interior, following and monitoring each and every move of the target. They looked exactly like a fox, preparing to hunt and rip the poor rabbits apart. On the other side, stood yet another person, getting ready to hook their rope onto the stabilized poles that was holding the building together. It wasn't a smooth process, though. They seemed to be struggling to the rope onto herself, while the fox did it seamlessly. The fox stole a glance at the person that stood on the other side of the skyscraper. The building they stood on looked exactly like the Eiffel tower in Paris but instead of a brown colored-paint that coated the pillars, they were colored in white and red.

The two special agents didn’t arrive at this landmark for sightseeing though. They were on assigned a task to stop a dangerous act of trade that was held in the building. It was revealed to them not long ago that the organization was following the famous saying of, “the most obvious place is the safest place”. Everyone that was involved in this mission had found that statement quite stupid. There wasn't any complaint from them, since it had saved them a large amount of time and work. They didn't have to dig through every corner of the unknown city. Inside the building stood the members of one of the biggest gangs to exist in Seoul and Tokyo. Known for their reckless ways of looting, assassinating the rich. They have around 100-150 people as troupes, a very large number to deal with. For every member’s head that were to be handed in, you would probably receive a reward of $1000 US dollars. Nevertheless, the money didn't matter to the fox girl and her team. They weren't worried that they were sending in two people into a 150 vs 2 battle. Because they were skilled. The best bounty hunters one could hire. The group knew that.

“Hawk, are you sure you want to do this? I’ll be fine on my own…” The fox whispered in concern.

“Are you underestimating me, fox? I might have only trained for a month but I’m capable of firing bullets and drilling knives into their heads. ” The voice echoed back through her earpiece.

          “I know but…”

“Fox, don't get sidetracked.”  A voice directed them, shutting the two up.

“Alright team, be patient here, a few more seconds…” The two figures standing on the top of the building gripped their ropes tighter as they braced themselves for impact.

          “Initiate Plan A.”

          “Roger.”

With that, the pair smashed through the frail sheets of glass on both sides as their hands gripped tightly on the rope and their guns. Gunshots shortly followed after the two landed. Bullets were exchanged with one another, whizzing and flying from all sides. Soon enough, a large amount of blood had started to splatter everywhere. The bullets landing and penetrating through the bodies of the clumsy ones. Or the weak ones, the fox would like to call. Their fingers continuously puling the triggers as adrenaline rushed through their bodies. The hawk seemed to be hesitating and no one could blame her. Firing a bullet, knowing you're going to take someone's life isn't an easy thing to do. Especially on the first day of the job. The two were drenched in the bright red liquid as they continuously switched between their varieties of weapons ranging from normal Glocks and desert eagles to modified automatic rifles. Perhaps sometimes even blades that were lit in a bright neon red color.

This was of course, the cyber punk era they were going through after all. You didn’t think I’d make a story without a twist, did you? The world started to develop even more after medical technology was able to cure COVID-19 back in 2021. The hunger for technological advances led to the infamous cyberpunk fantasy being brought to reality, especially the saying of “high tech, low life.” What was left of the wealthy communities lived in less crowded space with more fresh air and more plants and trees than any part of the country.

They had a much more healthier life compared to ones that were forced to reside in the slums. The slums were crowded. Buildings made out of poor quality steel piled up into the sky as every night neon lights emitted from the windows. The amount of trash that laid in the city had also piled up. It was no surprise that people were living in the piles of garbage too. There were too many people but with no room left. This of course created controversies and it had led to the development of new fatal weapons that were put into usage illegally against the rich, looting their money and properties to create more room for the poor. And this is exactly why organizations like the fox’s were created. Smaller branches of the police and military. Created to hunt down the dangerous predators that had aimed to destroy the rich. They were taught how to fight, to use weapons, and to protect the wealthy. Their goal was to bring order to society from the moment they were born. Basically, military-bred dogs.

The puddle of blood on the floor grew bigger as the number of bodies dropped increased. The wounds weren't fatal to some, of course. They had to be arrested. They only had to kill when it was necessary. Every opponent that had stood in the red haired girl’s way fell as bullets dug through their bodies and sometimes, into their brains. The girl was skilled. She had made sure that none of them escaped her wrath. Every bullet landed on the exact place she had planned it to be. The bullets arrived at the time she had wanted to. On the other hand, the hawk was struggling with a jam in her pistol as she struggled to multitask between fixing her gun and fighting the enemy that was coming for her neck. The girl didn’t have much weaponry choices. Because that was the last bullet she had in the last weapon she held.

“Lion, start calling the cleaning staff, we're almost done here..” The fox spoke as her fingers tugged on the triggers.

          “Got it.”

Before the girl could sigh in relief she heard a gunshot on the other side of the room. One of the weapons they did not hold possession of. It wasn’t the hawk’s. instinctively, her head whipped back in curiosity to find her comrade on the ground helpless as her blood oozed out and mix with the existing pile.

          “Shit.”

The so-called fox-girl brought the gun up to her eyes and aimed for the lad who had just shot her friend. Going straight for the forehead. She would soon figure out that she had pulled the trigger a tad bit too late. Because when the body of the man dropped into the pile of blood, another gun shot was fired towards the body of her friend. Fox rushed over to the girl to check if the bullet landed within her body. Praying that it didn't in the process. Luck wasn’t on her side that day as the bullet had already penetrated her teammate’s body.

“Mouse, call the ambulance, Hawk is injured.” The girl uttered as she tried to keep the blood from oozing out of the girl’s body.

          “Pardon?”

“I SAID CALL THE GODDAMN AMBULANCE SOMI GOT SHOT!” The read head growled as her grip on her friend's wound tightened. A groan came from Somi. And the fox sighed in relief. At least she was still alive.

          “Shit. I’m on it.”

“Alligator, you can start the cleaning. I’m going to go with Fox to the hospital.”

          “On it cap'.”

                                                                                          -----------------------------------

To say that the Fox was worried was an understatement. After all, Jeon Somi was a close teammate to her, one that she valued and respected. Once she arrived at the hospital, she made sure that the brunette was rushed to the emergency room as fast as possible, only letting go of the stretcher when she was forced to stay out of the operating room. And as she tried to catch her breath, 2 figures came rushing into the waiting room flooding her with concerns.

“Unnie!” She heard a familiar voice call for her.

“Soyeon, Yuqi.” The red haired girl turned back and took the 2 of her teammates into a hug, trying her best to not stain their clothes with blood.

“Where is Somi? What’s her condition?” Soyeon asked, gripping onto Yuqi’s sleeve. Her facial expressions told everyone the small girl didn’t care but her actions said otherwise.

“Soyeon-ah, calm down. You’re going to break this poor mechanic’s hand…” Yuqi winced.

“Sorry.” Soyeon mumbled as she rubbed the younger’s wrist, an attempt to sooth the pain she accidentally unknowingly caused.

“I don't know what's going to happen to her but it looked like the bullet had impacted her spine…” The girl answered looking down at the hospital tiles.

“Shit. I don't think the academy can spit out enough interns for us to use at the rate we’re losing people.” A voice was heard in their earpiece.

“They’re humans, Minnie. Not weapons we can use.” Yuqi growled into her earpiece, scolding the one on the other line. Another voice echoing, saying something inaudible. Then followed by a few slapping sounds. Someone was getting hit.

“Ow! Alright! alright.! I'm sorry! My bad!” And the line cut.

Just then the doctor came out with the results of the examination. The girls rushed towards the tall figure and flooded him with questions about Somi’s wellbeing. Nervous at the response they were going to be given.

“Ladies, you need to calm down. Your friend’s wound was very serious but for now, her life is kept as she had passed the dangerous period.” The girls sighed in relief, especially the red head.

“However we don't know if she can fully recover from this injury. She might just lose the ability to walk forever.” The doctor announced.

With these words, the red head felt like someone had slapped her in the face. She felt guilty for not being able to protect her teammate. Yuqi’s hands landed on the girl’s back as she rubbed tiny circles to comfort her.

“We’ll have her airlifted back to Korea. But for now we have to go back. The headquarters are calling us.” Soyeon said as she nodded towards the doctor. A sign of gratitude. Yuqi grabbed the fox's hand as they followed Soyeon back to Korea. Within the span of 2 hours, The three girls now stood in front of a squared table ready to get scolded by their boss after they had changed out into their normal clothes and thoroughly washed themselves.

“Do you know how many people your team has cost the academy?! Your plans are way too reckless!” The man rubbed his temple in complete anger.

“Sir, you keep sending us rookies! How are they supposed to keep up with our plans? We’re senior officers for goodness’ sake! Our missions aren’t child’s play. They’re the reason that we lost the good people in the start! And when we ask for professionals, you refuse and say that they’re busy!” Soyeon argued.

“It's why we had to have our training paramedic go on a suicide mission that ended up costing her the ability to maneuver!” The blonde slammed the table, eyebrows knitted. The man ruffled his nowhere to be seen hair as he sighed out loud. Sparing them a glance, he hesitated for a second. Wondering if he should just disband them and fire them all. Keeping only the red haired girl back because she was useful. But he knew that the organization standing in front of him was a powerful weapon. They’d earned a shit ton of money from hunting criminals and had made headlines with their skills and stealth. They could probably kill him right now if he fired them and stripped them off of their bounty hunter rights. He was tempted. At least. But he had a wife and two daughters to take care of, so he didn’t want to risk it. The lad sighed out loud and looked up towards the girls.

“This is the last time I’m giving you guys an experienced soldier. She’s not as skilled as you all but she had learnt some basic medical skills and graduated from the academy as a rookie agent. We don’t have anyone better available.” He sighed as his fingers fiddled with the buttons on his old telephone. “Come out.” A small but petite figure walked out from the doors behind him and stood next to the lad.

“Yeh Shuhua…” The red head’s eyes widened as the girl stood before her.

“Soojin...” The girl uttered at the sight of the red head in front of her.

“You two know each other? Great! Get out of my office then because we don't need any further introductions!” The girls were then shoved out of the office, including the new person who had just walked into the room. The lad probably needed to drink his coffee and prepared to be scolded by his superiors for lending a reckless group a genius like Shuhua.

“Are you shitting me right now? Out of all the people that could’ve been chosen, they chose her?!” Soojin cussed under her breath, her hands fidgeting with themselves as she walked behind Soyeon.

“Shuhua! Long time no see!” Yuqi ran towards the girl with jet black hair and gave her a huge bear hug.

“Yuqi!! I missed you!” The girl returned the hug and offered the Beijing puppy a big smile.

“Ahem…” A pair of girls drenched in an unknown red substance showed up behind them, looking very exhausted. “Mind introducing us?” One of them spoke.

“Right. She went to school with me and Soojin!” Yuqi explained. “Guys this is Yeh Shuhua, the new troupe they decided to give us.” The girl introduced as Shuhua bowed. “The two drenched in blood are part of our cleaning up squad.” She got slapped for that statement.

“Who’s your goddamn clean up squad?!” A girl whose bangs draped over forehead snapped as she blew away the hair that was stuck on her face using her breath.

“Ow…That hurt…” Yuqi girl winced. “The one who just hit me is Kim Minnie or normally known as a mouse. The one next to her is Cho Miyeon. Our alligator. They’re both a part of the scouting squad. They scout and find information for us.” Yuqi continued.

“I’m just a placeholder for the scouts because someone’s too scared to do it alone.” Miyeon glared at the girl next to her. “I deal with filtering the information that we get as well as contacting people to get new materials.” Miyeon reintroduced herself to the younger.

“This person here is Jeon Seoyeon, she’s our brain. Monitors everything through little cameras on our clothes and comes up with plans based on information the scouts gather to her. Our captain” Yuqi proudly announced as Soyeon shook hands with Shuhua.

“And you? What do you do?” The younger asked, showing no signs of interest in the red head standing there.

“Me? You know what I do you little piece of shit!” Yuqi joked around and locked Shuhua in her arms.

“Warm greetings later. We have to get ready for the next hunt.” Soojin said coldly, sending a shiver down the spines of everyone except Soyeon.

“Let's go back then.” Soyeon smiled as she patted Soojin’s back.

          “Someone’s cold…” Miyeon shrugged.

“Why do you care?” Soojin growled back, glaring at Shuhua before walking away from the group.
