Nines' thoughts on Richards lack of humanity.

Notes:

just a wee short little thing. I wasn't really sure how to go about this, but that one line seemed like a good starting point.

Work Text:

Our humanity is his blind spot

Nines often still thought about that after the whole ordeal with Richard. In the end, Richard’s lack of humanity and Nines having gained it after the revolution made it possible for Nines to get the upperhand on Richard in the end. Seeing Gavin bleeding out on the floor had filled Nines with an overwhelming feeling Richard could have never understood.

But Richard’s lack of humanity is also what caused his terror in the first place. It’s what caused Gavin to lose two fingers, not a thought spared to seeing him howl in pain on the floor, not a hesitation before making the shot. It’s what locked all those androids in the prison with no mercy or reconsideration or leeway.

Richard was no more than an object in theory. Yet he walked around with Nines’ face and used that to his advantage more than once. It terrified Nines. He couldn’t begin to imagine the repercussions he would have faced if Richard hadn’t been caught and dealt with as quickly as he was. Nines had already gotten a taste of it when they’d SWATed him.

“Shut up.” Gavin mumbled from beside him in the bed.

“I’m not saying anything.” Nines said, confused.

“You’re thinking. And it’s loud.” Gavin said before rolling over to face Nines. “So shut up.” He said, already reaching out his left hand under the sheet to grab Nines’.

If there was any silver lining to Richard’s lack of humanity, it was this, Nines had to admit to himself. He’d never grow tired of being able to interface with Gavin.
