Chapter Text

An average day for the guardian, Ink.  Like always, he started his day with the empty feeling created by being soulless -untill he drank a few of his paints-, and would get ready for the day with dressing in his signature outfit and doing some house cleaning, though it would soon trashed again by art supplies not long after.

The artist began to draw and paint some pictures that came to mind.  After a while , he felt a familiar dread within himself and his tattoos began to sizzle, without a doubt it was...

.

.

.

"Error!  Stand down and leave this AU in peace!"

Ink was now standing in front of the destroyer of universes himself, Error.  Inks' request was greeted with the usual maniacal laughter.

"HAHAHA! Sure, Squid, I'll leave this AU in pieces."

Error then used his predictable blue string attack on Ink, which was easily avoided with a swipe of his oversized paint brush, named, Broomy.

"Thanks, Broomy," Ink thanked his brush, although it didn't respond. Error laughed again.

"Still talking to your fancy stick? Ha! Pathetic, you can't make real friends, so you stick to soulless, inanimate objects. Just. Like. Yourself."

Error smirked at his own words, knowing that they would get to Ink.

Ink was somewhat taken aback by the statement. Despite not being able to feel emotions due to his lack of soul, he felt a sense of guilt with in him.

Error was one of the only ones who knew about his soulless.

———————————————————————————————————

The past, before they were enemies.

Before all of this "destroy" nonsense, Ink and Error -believe it or not- were the best of friends. Once, Error found out that he had feelings for the guardian, and was eventually ready to confess to his crush.

"Ink, there's something I wanna tell you.."

Error had his hood over his head to cover his blush and started to fiddle with his glasses, which he no longer wears.

"Oh, ok Error," Ink smiled sweetly, completely oblivious, "What do you need?"

They sat at the edge of a cliff in Outertale and looked out at the stars.

  "Inky, I-"

He was interrupted when Ink gasped and exclaimed, "ERROR, LOOK, A SHOOTING STAR!  Make a wish, hurry!"

  "Um, o-ok Inky..."

Error said as he closed his eye sockets and made a wish.  His wish was that Ink would accept his feelings. After a bit, he finally opened his eye sockets and looked at Ink.

"Sorry about that. What did you wanna say?" Ink asked, staring at Error.

"O-oh yeah..Ink I need to tell you something.." He started to blush again and turned his body to Ink.

"I... I think I like you," Error said, hiding in his hood again, quite flustered.

"I like you too, Error!  Why wouldn't you like me, aren't we friends?" Ink asked obliviously.

"W-what? No, n-not like that... I mean like-"

Error paused, blushed some more, and then looked at Ink. It seemed like Ink didn't know what was going on.

"What do you mean?" Ink asked impatiently.

"I mean I like like you, y-you know, I l-love you!" Error hugged Ink despite his haphephobia which caused him to glitch and lag quite a bit. "I-I th-ink-nk I lo‐ove yo-u, In-ky..."

They stayed like that for a while, in silence. Error looked up once he didn't get a response, through his Error sighs all he saw was Ink looking as neutral as ever. He suddenly worried that he had upset his crush and let go.

"I-Inky?" he began to apologize, "I-I'm sorry-" Error was interrupted by....laughter?

  "Pffttthahahaha!"

Error looked surprised, and somewhat hurt at the sight of Ink bawling with laughter.

"You 'love' me?" He continued to laugh like it was the funniest joke he'd heard in a millennia. "YOU 'love' ME, a soulless being?!"

Error held back tears of embarrassment.  Why was Ink acting like this?  What did he mean by soulless?

Ink's laughter started to subside, and the artist looked down.

"...I should have told you sooner, huh?"

Error looked kind of frightened of this new persona of his friend and crush.

"Tell me what?" Error questioned as he stood from where they were sitting.

"I CAN'T feel feelings," Ink started to laugh again, "I don't have a soul, I'm not normal! Look," He pulled one of his vials filled with paint and shook it, the paint in side making a sloshing sound. "I have to use these to feel emotions."

Error started glitching, he was feeling sad, mad, and frustrated?

"S-so our whole friendship wa-was a l-lie?" he stuttered and held his head as more Error signs appeared in his eye sockets.

"Fell in love with a soulless being!  Haha, that's hilarious! Like it would ever work.  You know I couldn't do it, right?  Love you back? Even if I wanted to... Face it Error," Ink looked back up and stared at Error with eye lights that the other had never seen before. They weren't colorful, they weren't constantly shifting into fun shapes. They were cold, blank, pure white slates void of all emotion.

"We could never be together."

Ink paused and reached into his sash, pulling out a few containers full of colorful liquid and taking a quick sip out of each them. Once finished the artist seemed to have returned to normal and he extended his hand out to Error "but we can still be friends-"

Error was fed up with this and pushed ink away.

"SHUT UP, GO AWAY! LEAVE ME ALONE! PFT, NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT, I WOULD NEVER LOVE SOMETHING LIKE YOU, YOU STUPID SOULLESS GLITCH!" he yelled, starting to glitch uncontrollably. "DON'T TALK TO ME ANYMORE!"

Ink stood up, and attempted to console Error again.

"Error, I'm sorry, but we can still be f-" He was cut off again by Error throwing a bone attack at him.

"I'VE HEARD ENOUGH OF YOU, I SAID GO AWAY!"

Ink got the message and backed off. He turned and ran off, his head hanging in regret. He felt like shit, or thought that he would have if he could.

Error was left alone on the cliff of Outertale feeling, sad at the fact his crush didn't accept him, angry at the fact he was betrayed and lied to, and confused as to why Ink kept such a secret from him for so long.  Error took his glasses off to wipe his tears.

"Stupid Ink Blob... I hate you."

Error threw his glasses on the ground, and stomped on them.  Out of pure grief and rage he started to wreak havoc upon Outertale, ripping its code apart and destroying the AU.

Ink returned to find almost nothing left of Outertale, then he spotted Error's broken and discarded glasses on the ground.

"I'm so sorry I hurt you, Error..." he said to himself and picked up the glasses. Error was not too far off, still throwing a tantrum, and Ink had to act.

This would be their first battle.
