“Wanna join my gang?” Baji had asked Chifuyu as the other treated his wounds.
They were treating each other wounds after Baji had beaten the punks that were ganging up on Chifuyu, feeling his blood boil when he remembered Chifuyu was fighting without any weapon while the punks were fighting with weapons.
Cowards.
“Did you mean the “Tokyo Manji Gang” you’ve mentioned earlier, Baji-san?” Chifuyu politely asked, his attitude completely different from a few hours ago when he had helped Baji write the letter for Kazutora.
Baji hummed, giving Chifuyu a small nod as Chifuyu finally finished treating a wound on Baji’s knuckles.
“Yeah yeah, that one. You wanna join? You’ll fit right in!” Baji added, hoping the blonde boy would accept his invitation. Besides,
Chifuyu’s a good dude.
“I’ll think about it, Baji-san. It sounded fun. Your gang and its motto.” Chifuyu replied, sitting cross-legged opposite of Baji while humbly scratching the back of his head.
Chifuyu’s reasoning was making Baji even more determined to drag the boy into Toman.
After talking for a while, Chifuyu then decided he should go back to his apartment.
Baji certainly did not forget to persuade Chifuyu one last time before the blonde left with a bright grin that Baji got to see for the rest of his days.
☕️ 1 ☕️
“Chifuyu’s really cool, isn’t he?!”
A few months had passed since Chifuyu joined Toman.
“True! He deserves to be the vice captain of the first division!”
And, like the dude said, Chifuyu’s now the vice captain of the first division.
Baji’s division.
“Did you see him beating up that punk that insulted Toman? That was damn cool!”
Baji was really proud Chifuyu was admired very much by the others. Like, really proud.
Though there were times when he wished he hadn’t introduce the boy to Toman because-
“I went to the same school as Chifuyu, ya know? Ever since Chifuyu became more friendly and polite, tons of girls were literally fawning all over him every minute!”
-this new side of Chifuyu’s was really troublesome for him to handle for some reason.
For instance, the other day, Baji saw a girl confessing to Chifuyu at the back of the school. Normally, one would’ve walked away from the scene to give the confession some privacy.
Though for some unknown reasons, Baji found himself walking towards the two and interrupted the session by acting like the girl was not even there-
Baji was just lucky enough Chifuyu didn’t like the girl.
With Baji as Chifuyu’s key to escape the situation he quickly apologised to the girl, saying he didn’t reciprocate the girl’s feelings and wanted to focus on school, before grabbing Baji’s wrist and getting out of the scene.
Another example was when the other week, Baji bumped into Chifuyu who looked especially uncomfortable as a group of girls were bombarding Chifuyu with questions and praises.
Baji wondered why those girls even bothered to ask questions when Chifuyu was clearly too flustered to answer them.
That kinda pissed Baji off to for some reason-
In the end, Baji went and saved the day by directing the girls’ attention toward himself, answering their questions before they finally decided to leave.
That pissed feeling Baji felt a few seconds before instantly dissipated into thin air when Chifuyu grinned and thanked Baji for saving him.
“Baji-san!”
Back to the present, Baji turned his head towards Chifuyu, ignoring others' murmurs as Baji’s attention was solely focused on the blonde with fluffy hair and bright grin in front of him.
“‘Sup?” Baji asked, already forgotten what he was annoyed by a few seconds ago.
Chifuyu enthusiastically asked if Baji wanted to study together for the upcoming exam, Chifuyu’s eyes sparkling in anticipation.
Who was Baji to say no to those eyes?
“Sure.” Baji answered, making sure he didn’t sound too eager.
As long as those eyes were on him, he’s cool.
☕️ 2 ☕️
He’s not feeling cool at all.
Especially after having to watch this other dude chatting with Chifuyu and blatantly ignoring Baji’s existence.
The audacity this dude has-
“He’s cute! Peke J, is it?” The stranger chirped, staring at a picture of Chifuyu’s cat that Chifuyu had shown him.
“Yeah! Its name is Peke J! Cutest thing I’ve ever taken care of!” Chifuyu announced proudly, nodding to himself and giving himself a Pat in the back.
Honestly, Baji would’ve teased Chifuyu if he wasn’t so mad at the stranger who had the balls to strike up a conversation when Baji was literally with Chifuyu.
Baji was not even sure why he was so mad-
“Oi. Fuyu. Didn’t know the answer to this one.” Baji called out after clearing his throat, pointing at a random question while his eyes were trained on the stranger who acted as if he just noticed Baji’s existence.
Right… Chifuyu and Baji actually went to a cafe nearby to study because Chifuyu thought studying at his or Baji’s place will simply not be productive and will probably end before they get to actually even do something.
So Baji’s pretty sure it’s not his fault he’s upset as hell when Chifuyu spent more of his time chatting with the stranger rather than focusing on hi-
“Pftt. Seriously? You don’t know how to answer that one? Lame.” The stranger suddenly said, smiling smugly before turning to Chifuyu. He was probably hoping that Chifuyu would agree with him or something.
That’s where he’s wrong.
Chifuyu wouldn’t.
“… Did you just implied that Baji-san is too dumb?” Chifuyu asked, his eyes staring into the stranger’s soul, his voice monotone and dead.
The stranger could only stare at Chifuyu, flabbergasted and confused as to Chifuyu’s change of demeanour.
“Uhh… ya know. I just thought it was funny he didn’t know the answer to the easy question-”
Honestly, the stranger should’ve tried to lie and said he was just joking.
Though Baji really liked this turn of events so he decided he didn’t want to interfere.
In the blink of an eye, Chifuyu was holding a pair of scissors and was pointing it at the stranger, his gaze sending shivers to the stranger’s veins.
“Before you pissed me off even further by insulting Baji-san, I suggest you walk out and away from our sight.” Chifuyu spoke, his voice low only for the three of them to hear.
Baji suddenly felt like thanking the stranger for helping him discover this other side of Chifuyu.
Immediately after Chifuyu had ended his sentence, the stranger left in a rush, leaving Baji and Chifuyu by themselves.
It was silent for a long while before the two of them started studying again.
“Fuyu?”
“Yes, Baji-san?”
“Don’t go around pointing scissors at anyone. It’s dangerous, ya know?”
“Of course, Baji-san! I was just pissed he had insulted you. Wouldn’t do anything like that if it doesn’t involve you.”
“… Does that mean you’ll do that only to defend my honour?”
“… Maybe?”
Baji didn’t know if that was a good thing, but the sound of his heart picking up its pace in his ear was certainly a sign that they’re good now.
☕️ 3 ☕️
Baji looked over Chifuyu when the latter had let out a long sigh.
Christmas was closing in, yet the two of them were simply chilling inside Chifuyu’s room, Baji scrolling playing a game on his phone and Chifuyu patting Peke J’s fur.
“Still haven’t gotten any date this Christmas…” Baji heard Chifuyu murmur.
Baji felt his eyebrow twitch.
“Uhh… you were looking for a date?” Baji asked, his attention went to Chifuyu as he successfully lost that one level that he was so close to beating.
“Well… kinda? Seeing my classmates having plans with their girlfriends or boyfriends kinda kept on reminding me how single I am…”, Chifuyu explained, letting out another long sigh.
“Do you not like hanging out with me on Christmas, then?”
…
It took a few seconds for Baji to realise he had accidentally spoken his thought out loud without thinking it thoroughly first.
Wait- Shi- How am I gonna explain what I had just said without making it weird-
“O-O-Of course I enjoy every second I spend with you, Baji-san! It’s an honour to get to spend so much time with you all the time!” Chifuyu had stammered, breaking into a rambling mess as he tried to explain he, in fact, appreciated the time spent with Baji.
In the midst of the chaos, Baji couldn’t even focus on what Baji was rambling about.
All he could focus on was Chifuyu’s red face and his arms flailing around, trying to explain that he didn’t need anyone else if he had Baji with him.
Once Chifuyu had calmed down and regained his composure, Chifuyu spent a minute spacing off before he asked if Baji wanted to play a new video game he had bought last weekend.
Baji agreed to it, of course.
They were about to start playing the game when Chifuyu’s phone lit up.
Baji, who was closer to Chifuyu’s phone, decided to take the phone and hand it to Chifuyu.
Though the message that popped up on the screen made Baji stop.
Once again, Baji felt this weird annoyance he had experienced when he bumped into the random girl that had confessed to Chifuyu.
It’s irritating.
“Baji-san? Is there something on my phone?” Chifuyu had asked when Baji had stayed silent for a long moment.
Not getting any response from Baji, Chifuyu decided to go to Baji instead, peeking on his phone’s screen before Chifuyu felt his body heating up.
“Why is this girl messaging you and asking you for a date?” Baji asked, his voice monotone as he tried to conceal his annoyance.
He still didn’t know what’s really getting on his nerve-
“Takemitchy probably had asked the girls in his class about me… Ugh that guy…” Chifuyu groaned, carefully taking his phone and typing away, probably messaging Takemichi or that unknown girl.
“Why would he introduce you to girls from his class?” Baji asked with an edged tone.
He was really confused why he’s asking so many questions regarding this stuff-
“I tend to complain and tell Takemitchy to stop being lovey dovey with Hina in front of me, saying that I might puke. Takemitchy probably misunderstood what I said and probably thought I wanted a girlfriend.” Chifuyu explained, putting his phone away when he had finished typing.
Before Baji could ask any further questions, Chifuyu had already taken a seat beside Baji comfortably before sending a grin towards Baji’s way.
“Well, even if I like the girl who had just messaged me, I will always put you first as my main priority! And Toman too, o-of course!” Chifuyu had chirped, chuckling awkwardly at the end of his sentence.
Again, Baji felt his weird annoyance immediately disappearing as if it wasn’t there in the first place.
☕️ 4 ☕️
They’re already university students.
Baji thought that ‘weird’ annoyance he felt in highschool when things involved with Chifuyu were supposed to be gone already.
So why was he here, feeling like he could punch through a wall, when he saw Chifuyu chatting at a cafe with this random girl?
“Oi, Baji. Stop with that glare. You’ll scare the girl.” Kazutora chuckled from beside Baji before walking towards Chifuyu and that random girl.
Exams were closing in. So the three of them decided that they should study at the cafe where Baji and Chifuyu used to study in their high school years.
Baji still couldn’t brain why this girl was here though-
“Oh! Baji-san! Glad you can come!”
That cheerful voice instantly cooled Baji down for a little, yet Baji still kept a sceptical eye on the girl who was simply smiling warmly at him.
“Of course I’ll come.” Baji said, taking a seat beside Kazutora.
Chifuyu was sitting opposite the girl and beside Baji, while Kazutora was sitting beside the girl and opposite of Baji.
Baji thought that at least he got to sit beside Chi-
“This is Tsu, by the way. She’s the friend that I’ve talked to you guys about!” Chifuyu introduced, followed by Tsu who was already politely bowing.
“Wait, you actually talked about me with your friends?” Tsu teased, the tone she used was really messing up with Baji.
Chifuyu rolled his eyes before giving a reply, “Of course I do! I mean, it’s because of you that I get to meet your sister and get a discount on Peke J’s food!”
It was at this moment when Baji remembered.
“Wait- you’re the girl who said Chifuyu looked dumb when he was sulking because Peke J’s food ran out in the pet shop he frequent too?” Baji asked, suddenly eager to get along with this girl already.
“That’s right! That’s good ol’ me!” Tsu had proudly admitted.
All of a sudden, Baji didn’t feel that ‘weird’ annoyance anymore.
By the end of the day, Baji and Tsu hit it off instantly.
When it was time to leave, Baji was utterly confused when Chifuyu and Tsu bid goodbye to Kazutora and him.
Weren’t they supposed to go get dinner together?
“I don’t think Tsu should walk around alone. It’s dark already so I’m gonna walk her home.” Chifuyu explained, grinning a bit apologetically at Baji and Kazutora before finally walking away.
Baji watched as Tsu and Chifuyu slowly disappeared from his line of sight, hearing Tsu’s refusal to Chifuyu’s offer if he already got plans. Though the other boy simply ignored her and walked ahead, causing Tsu to catch up and smack him in the head.
Suddenly, that ‘weird’ annoyance was back.
But it felt too bittersweet all of a sudden-
“They’re cute together, aren’t they?” Kazutora suddenly whistled, glancing at Baji before walking the other way.
Baji found himself clenching his fist.
“…” Baji opted to not say anything to Kazutora’s question.
Baji thought it was odd how he found it so hard to sleep that night, wondering if anything happened between Chifuyu and Tsu.
☕️ 5 ☕️
Baji finally owned a pet shop.
His dream was actually achieved.
“This is so cool, Baji-san!” Chifuyu exclaimed, looking all over the shop while Kazutora had to follow the male around as he claimed that Chifuyu might break something if he continued wandering around the shop without supervision.
Baji chuckled, watching as Chifuyu’s eyes sparkled when he saw the cat Baji had taken in a week ago.
“Isn’t he the cutest?!” Chifuyu exclaimed, taking the cat into his arms and patting its head.
Before Baji could reply, there was already someone else who gave a response.
“Just like the dude who’s carrying it!” Tsu had teased, wiggling her eyebrows.
And just like that, Chifuyu went red before he carefully placed the cat back onto the ground and ran after Tsu.
Baji didn’t like what his heart was doing at all at the sight.
“So annoying…” Baji had thought, wishing he could tell his heart to shut up.
Eventually, Tsu got caught.
Of course she did. Chifuyu’s a fast runner, mind you!
Chifuyu proceed to squeeze Tsu’s cheeks while the girl asked for forgiveness.
“They’re cute together, aren’t they?”
“They’re cute together, aren’t they?”
“They’re cute together, aren’t they-
“Y’all lovebirds should knock it off! Unless you want to be sold in a set. This is a pet shop, anyway. They’ll definitely be some people who want birds.” Kazutora had joked, chuckling when he heard offended noises from the said ‘lovebirds’.
Years had passed since Baji first met Tsu. Years had passed since Kazutora had asked him the question that has been playing in his mind a bit too often.
Baji was really losing it.
“Are you okay there, Baji-san?” Chifuyu had asked when he saw Baji staring into space.
Tsu was immediately concerned when Chifuyu had mentioned Baji’s dazed look, going as far as ‘oh gosh am gonna go to the nearest pharmacy and get him some medicine’.
Tsu’s too kind, really.
Baji was just glad Kazutora was there to stop the kind-hearted idiot.
“Am fine. Just a headache.”
Headaches, since you and Tsu kept on messing with my head these days.
Chifuyu frowned, crossing his arms and started lecturing, “You should never overworked yourself, Baji-san! Always remember Kazutora-san is here to help you out in the shop! Tsu and I are always happy to help around when needed too!”
Baji was silent for two moments before he tried his best to give Chifuyu an actually decent smile.
“Thanks, Fuyu.”
Baji felt his heart do a flip when he saw how Chifuyu went from astonished to embarrassed, his face heating up while the tips of his ears were already as red as tomatoes.
“A-Anytime, Baji-san!” Chifuyu had stammered out, avoiding Baji’s gaze as he scratched the back of his head.
When Tsu had calmed down and watched Chifuyu’s and Baji’s exchange, Tsu had literally jumped on Chifuyu from behind, causing Chifuyu to falter and immediately tried to balance himself and Tsu.
“I guess they’re kinda cute together.”
It slipped out of Baji’s lips before he could think it through.
The shop went silent instantly.
“What do you mean?” Tsu asked, tilting her head.
Baji’s head was swimming with curses to himself, feeling like an idiot for actually letting it slip.
“It was nothing. Ain’t it, Baji?” Kazutora came and saved the day, his arm went around and rested on Baji’s shoulders.
Baji suddenly found the exit behind Chifuyu and Tsu very interesting.
“Yeah. It’s nothing.” Baji lamely agreed.
Before anything else could be said, a phone had rang, cutting through the unspoken tension inside the pet shop.
Picking up her phone, Tsu’s face went pale when the person on the other line started talking.
She started packing her things up during the phone call, causing the other three in the room to be slightly concerned .
“Sorry, everyone. I have to go. My sister kinda needs my help right now.” She briefly explained, was about to leave when Chifuyu grabbed her wrist.
“I’ll give you a ride! This seemed important. Hailing for a cab would take too much time.” Chifuyu reasoned.
If Tsu was not in a hurry, she probably declined Chifuyu’s offer.
Baji really hated this ‘weird’ feeling he was experiencing.
It was tolerable for a while. Though these days, it won’t even leave.
Especially when he saw them together.
“Thanks, Chifuyu!” Tsu had thanked, the two quickly saying their goodbyes before literally sprinting out of the shop.
Baji felt like he had lost something.
“Gosh, Baji. Tell him already.” Kazutora suddenly groaned, facepalming.
“What’s there to tell? They didn’t tell us anything but pretty sure they’re together already.” Baji grumbled, rolling his eyes in the process.
Admitting it out loud hurted like hell.
“You could be so dumb sometimes.” Kazutora groaned even more, mumbling an ‘am done’ before going to the back of the shop, saying he’ll rearrange some stuff while Baji tried to use his head.
“Do you think Chifuyu’s the type to hide something from you?” Kazutora had asked, staring into Baji’s eyes before leaving.
For the rest of the day, Baji pondered over the question, yet not getting any answers.
All he felt was that ‘weird’ feeling, the feeling he had every time he saw Chifuyu with someone else.
☕️ +1 ☕️
Baji’s eyes saw red.
Chifuyu’s a pilot now. So Baji didn’t get to see Chifuyu that often since Chifuyu had to travel all the time.
Today, in particular, was the day he got to finally see Chifuyu after months of not seeing the male.
Since Chifuyu told them he’ll be arriving at 3 in the morning, Kazutora and Tsu immediately excused themselves from joining Baji to pick Chifuyu up since, well,
That’s too early.
Though Baji didn’t mind.
He was just really excited to meet his dearest friend.
So imagined how pissed he was when by the time he arrived at the airport, there was another guy getting into Chifuyu’s personal space, a sly grin on the stranger’s face.
Judging from his attire, he was probably one of Chifuyu’s colleagues.
A senior even.
“You really don’t wanna get a date with me? You might regret that, ya know? I’m offering so you should consider thoroughly before rejecting the offer.” The stranger offered, pinning Chifuyu against a wall.
Baji never felt like punching someone in the face so bad-
“Like I said, sir. I already have someone I like… Please understand.” Chifuyu tried to explain, trying his best to not beat the living shit of the dude.
Baji felt a vein in his neck nearly burst.
That dude should be glad he’s a senior. Or not he’ll probably be down after a punch from Chifuyu.
Baji was about to ponder on Chifuyu’s explanation when the guy dared to close the space between his and Chifuyu’s lips.
Baji never had punched someone so hard in his life.
“Hands off, fucker.” Baji hissed, landing a blow on the dude’s face.
The stranger was literally sent to the other side.
Baji clenched his fist when he realised Chifuyu was trembling.
“Wh-what was that for?! I could sue you for this!” The stranger shouted, standing back up and facing Baji.
Baji was so ready to beat the living shit out of the dude-
“I think you can stop with your bullshit now, senpai.”
Baji felt himself froze when Chifuyu walked past him and towards the dude, watching as Chifuyu landed a harsh punch on the dude’s already beat up face.
“I should’ve reported you for trying to harass me right from the start. But I didn’t because I really don’t wanna lose my job.” Chifuyu mumbled, crouching down before grabbing a strand of the dude’s hair and making eye contact.
With an eerie smile, Chifuyu said,
“Let’s forget any of this ever happened , okay senpai? I’m pretty sure Baji-san had whatever you tried to do to me on camera. So if I hear any word about this, I’ll spread the video, okay?”
To say Baji was stunned is an understatement.
The stranger nodded aggressively, breaking into a sprint as soon as Chifuyu let go of the dude.
“Have a safe trip, senpai~” Chifuyu sing-song, his voice echoing.
By the time the dude disappeared from his line of sight, Chifuyu was still crouching at the same spot.
“You okay there, Fuyu?” Baji asked, concern.
He walked towards the other male before noticing-
…was Chifuyu’s blushing?
Upon noticing Baji’s presence, Chifuyu’s eyes widened before he lowered his gaze and covered his face, mumbling.
“Sorry you have to see that, Baji-san! I should’ve reported him earlier but he’s my senior and is kinda favoured by everyone so I couldn’t really do anything because I didn’t wanna lose my job. He almost stole my first kiss-”
Baji stopped listening when he heard Chifuyu’s last sentence.
…
Chifuyu has never kissed anyone?
“You never kissed anyone?” Baji asked, cutting Chifuyu off mid sentence. He didn’t really care how odd it probably was for Chifuyu to hear this question.
At that question, Chifuyu only heated up even more.
“I- uhh yeah. I haven’t…” Chifuyu trailed, rubbing the back of his neck in embarrassment.
Baji suddenly felt so glad and happy-
“LET’S CHANGE THE TOPIC!” Chifuyu had stated ‘calmly’ before he started rambling, at the same time speed walking towards Baji’s car while Baji had to catch up with Chifuyu.
“Thanks for helping me back there! I wouldn’t have snapped out of being a goody-two-shoe if you hadn’t come! You actually looked like a jealous boyfriend back there- I MEAN, UHH, I- OH LOOK WE’RE IN FRONT OF YOUR CAR ALREADY!”
Chifuyu was probably waiting for any type of response from Baji, but…
Baji really couldn’t think of any response.
The only thing that was in his head was the words,
jealous boyfriend
jealous boyfriend
jealous boyfriend-
“B-Baji-san?” Chifuyu had asked timidly, effectively gaining Baji’s attention.
Once Baji had looked at Chifuyu, Chifuyu only averted his gaze, opting to stare at Baji’s car instead.
“D-don’t think about what I said too much! It, uhh, I guess I said too much? Yeah that’s it.” Chifuyu stammered.
Baji only stared at Chifuyu and started to really think.
Baji was jealous.
“Fuyu?”
“Y-yes, Baji-san?” Chifuyu asked, taking a sharp inhale when Baji took a step closer toward Chifuyu.
“About what you said, back then. When you told the bastard you already like someone else…
…who is it?” Baji asked, his voice low as he stared into Chifuyu’s eyes.
The poor blushing male could only blushed even further before he whispered earnestly.
“…it’s you, Baji-san.”
Baji never kissed someone so hard in his life.
He never felt so content.
By the time the two of them were home, cuddling on the sofa as Chifuyu laid his head on Baji’s shoulder, Baji thought.
I was jealous for nothing.
