Gojo peeked around the corner apprehensively. You pushed your door open slightly to see you, hands clasped, burning incense, in front a picture of Yuji. His expression became solemn. He entered the room and knelt down beside you. “Gojo?” you asked as you looked at him.
“Yes, Y/N,” he replied.
“Do you think he was cursed when he died?” Your voice wavered and tears welled up in your eyes. Gojo’s mouth fell slightly open at the sight. You had always been so strong. You had not even given Gojo a second to catch his breath when you first met him. Demanding to spar right away with the so-called “strongest jujutsu sorcerer.”
“It’s just that…I feel like…He’s still around. Somehow. I can feel his cursed energy is still here, and I’m scared that he can’t…that he won’t…move on.” The tears slid down your cheek now and Gojo wiped a few away before he even knew what he was doing. He felt awful keeping the secret from you, but the less people knew Yuji was still alive, the better. He couldn’t risk the secret getting out, but then again, he hated seeing you like this.
“It was my fault,” you said. The words took Gojo aback.
“No, no. It wasn’t at all!” he exclaimed putting his hands up.
“You don’t need to coddle me, Gojo. I should have visited the cursed womb before the students were dispatched. I’m the most sensitive to types of cursed energy. I would have been able to pick up on it turning into a special grade.”
“It only turned into a special grade after eating Sukuna’s finger,” Gojo replied.
“And I would’ve noticed the presence of Sukuna’s finger at the detention center!” you shouted. Gojo knew you weren’t shouting at him. You were angry at yourself.
“I’m a failure. I couldn’t even protect one…one…” the words died as a sob racked your body. Gojo gathered you in his arms, and your tears spilled on his clothes.
“Don’t say that. The only people who are responsible are the higher-ups,” said Gojo, “They knew Yuji would likely die and sent both of us away so that we couldn’t interfere.”
“I’ll…I‘ll kill them all,” you whispered. Gojo couldn’t help but let out a slight chuckle as he held you.
“I know how it feels,” he sighed. You two stayed in silence for a moment, Gojo softly rubbing his hand up and down your arm.
“Y’know…I don’t think what you’re feeling is Yuji being cursed. I think it’s the spirit he’s left behind. He wouldn’t want us to be sad,” said Gojo.
You wiped your tears determinedly. “You’re right. It’s just hard sometimes.”
Gojo gently pushed you so that you could face him again. “What if I order some ramen, and we can share happy memories about Yuji?” he asked.
You smiled weakly. “Yeah, okay.”

“Gojo-sensei, you aren’t eating dinner here?” asked Yuji.
“Ah, no. I’m eating with Y/N tonight. She’s in mourning for you and needs a friend,” replied Gojo.
“Oh? I didn’t know she liked me that much,” said Yuji.
“Yeah, well, she has a very good heart…” Gojo trailed off.
Yuji peered at his teacher, watching as Gojo seemed to stare off into space under his blindfold. “Wait! Are you using my death to pick up Y/N-sensei?” asked Yuji.
“Sorry, Yuji, I’m already late,” said Gojo, snapping out his thoughts about you.
“Answer me! Answer me!” demanded Yuji as Gojo strolled out the door, “Eh, I’d probably do the same thing.”

Yuji’s mouth hung open at his classmates’ underwhelming response to him being not dead. Gojo rubbed his neck in secondhand embarrassment, looking around. Surely, someone would be struck by the genius of his plan. And there you were, far in the back, tears streaming down your face as you gazed at Yuji. You were clearly trying to hide from the rest of the students, and Gojo was the only who noticed. He smiled. You were perfect.
