Smoke trailed out of the open window that Spirit was leaning out of, but his mind was not focused on what his eyes had become fixated on. No, his mind was on who was in the living room. A silver haired Omega who was slowly turning the small living room into a cave of blankets. All while a small blond child happily encouraged the giant fort. At least Stein was moving now, the other had been nearly catatonic for the entire time he had had him in his home.
Initially, Spirit had been walking home after saying goodbye to Maka for a few days, it had been his ex-wife’s turn with the little blond. He thought it was going to be a quiet, lonely night. Not a tall, silver haired Omega to nearly slit his throat with a scalpel as he passed an alleyway. Which at first, he thought perhaps the other had been covered in an Omega’s blood. Only to quickly find he was, but it was his blood. Nearly naked and not seeming affected by the snow or ice around him. The other stood still, calculating even as Spirit tried to assess the situation. Confusion and planning trying to both happen in his mind, only to find instead of either- he was dodging a scalpel throat at his chest. Which instead, got his arm. Without thinking, he had used a command on the Omega. As said Omega just threw a scalpel into his arm, it wasn’t difficult to put emotion behind his words.
It was an old technique, one that he personally found distasteful but was useful enough. Or at least now, although he regretted it. The other went nearly limp, and he then had to come up with a plan. An unidentified, crazed Omega would most likely be done away with if no one claimed them. The laws and society had come leaps and bounds from even twenty years ago regarding Omegan rights. However, this one wasn’t typical in size nor reacting violently so with that, he wrapped his scarf around his own would and tried to tie it tightly. Then he took the male to his home. After that it was an autopilot reaction and googling what to do about a series of questions. Such as, “What happens if you use a command on a traumatized Omega,”, “Omega is not moving or responding to sound,” and “Can you use Alpha soap on Omegas”.
“What could cause an Omega to act crazed or violent,” was his final google search after the scarred up male was washed, and put into the bedding. The red head also wondered if the giant crew in his head had something to do with it. By then, Spirit had made coffee and his back was braced against the counter. Many of the stories were not what he had been talking out, and seemed to describe more so fits rather than what he had seen. Other than a few stories about attacking after their children were threatened, or in case of psychological disorders. However, even if these were correct many state if the person in charge did not feel they could “handle” the omega to call one of the listed numbers.
All of which were the places he was heavily avoiding. By then, it was noted that the Alpha had bandaged himself up. Although, his arm had hardly been a concern during all of this. In the following days, the silver haired Omega seemed unresponsive. Although, he did show dislikes for certain foods and didn’t try to kill him again. So far, so good. It helped that he was on leave at the moment, to watch Maka while her mother had a rather erratic month at work.
He initially, had been apprehensive and dreading the exchange to explain why he couldn’t take Maka. Only… he couldn’t find a reason and his ex-wife would see through any lie he had. So he carefully introduced the two. Since then, there didn’t seem to be a problem. The Omega showed no violence and even a curious interest in the child. Meanwhile, the Omega child was delighted to be around another Omega. Both Spirit and his ex-wife had been Alphas after all, which didn’t leave Maka much exposure outside of daycare or play dates. It was Maka who even got the other to say his name, Spirit on the other hand, only getting a few muttered words here and there. However, his perfect little girl had gotten a name. Stein.
For now, he was smoking a cigarette as the cold night chilled his face trying to think of how to get the other to talk to him more. So far, he and Maka had managed to keep Stein a secret. Not that at this point it would have been horrible, legally the other had been here.
Unclaimed and couldn’t just be taken from his home now. Unless of course the other wanted to leave. Although, he had left the house for several hours, half wondering if he was going to come home and the other to be gone. Although, he wondered if the other could even leave. The most he ever saw the other go was to the downstairs bathroom that was only a few feet away from the living room. From his research, it was common for highly stressed Omegas to not want to leave a certain area that they feel safe in. Sometimes that would only be one room in an entire house. Something like agoraphobia, but even more so restrictive.
The blogs he found about this were more so typical in cases of childbirth, but he did find some medical journals that showed him high trauma could cause this as well. Some of the suggestions went as far as forcing the Omega out of the space and asserting sometype of rules or dominance to override their own senses. But several scientific journals counter acted these common blogs stating this could cause more trauma- which was Spirit’s own sense. A sound to his immediate left startled him out of his thoughts, out of the corner of his eye he saw silver hair and relaxed slightly. The other suddenly precured a cigarette out of his jacket pocket. Luckily, Stein was only a touch taller than he was, so going and finding clothing had been easy.
“I’ve been stealing your cigarettes, have you even noticed,” Stein stated, his voice didn’t sound as hollow as it usually did.
A sneer with perhaps amusement mixed in it, or at least that is what Stein detected. “I did start to leave a separate pack in the truck, I got tired of them suddenly running out,” Spirit couldn’t help the smile that was bursting across his face. Sarcasm suited the other. The red headed Alpha, watched as long fingers grabbed the lighter off of the window ledge. “When I first brought you here, I saw a mating scar on your neck… Should I be looking out for someone,” he questioned. He had been holding of any of the what/why/when questions, but he hadn’t want the other to go catatonic again.
“No. She is long gone by now ,” the scarred up Omega stated. His voice sounded as if he didn’t care much. However, the other’s scent let off notes of what Spirit could describe as agony. It burned his nose and made aggression flare in his stomach, instead he bit his cheek before putting out his cigarette that had become too short.
Those brief moments became somewhat regular. Maka would fall asleep inside the web of blankets that once was his living room, and he would light up. At some point, Stein would join him. Usually insulting him at some point or another, not that Spirit minded. He also started leaving printed out medical journals. Technically, some would look down on that, but after listening to the other speak. This Omega seemed to be trained or at least had some type of knowledge.
Only for the other to berate him for such a weak study. Also, handing it back covered in remarks. It took nearly two years to learn about what had happened. Two years with the strange, silver haired Omega. Of course, in that time he hadn’t kept the Omega secret. However, no one really knew the other was an Omega either. Instead, they played Stein off as a Beta. They used blockers when going out and if anyone came into the house they just assumed it was Maka or another Omega that had come over at one point or another.
Spirit had thought it was a weird request, but he followed it regardless. Then again, by the first year he had found himself attached to the quick witted Omega. He didn’t really know what he was doing, that was helping the other.
But one night, when the other’s heat had come and Maka had been out- he had heard the other. Spirit himself gripping the window seal tightly, trying to ignore the scent of Omega just meters away from him. Omega heat hadn’t always affected Spirit the way he saw it affect others. But it was mixed with a distinct scent that was Stein, the scent that clung to the other even with beta blockers.
Spirit knew it was stupid to be close to the other, to be on the same floor as an Omega in heat. What he didn’t expect is to see the male come beside him. Panting slightly, even in heat he didn’t see a flush on the pale skin. The other taking the cigarettes. They had switched to cloves, Maka had been on their ass after a presentation at her school about how bad smoking was. However, his mind was not on the cloved smell escaping his lungs. Instead, distinctively just how close the other was. The hand gripping the window seal tightening, that is until he was threw off guard when his hair was grabbed. Finding those silver eyes looking into his own blue, an intense almost glare focusing on him.
“I knew you could be dense Spirit, but if you say anything about heat-daze I will fucking kill you,” the other growled out. His hair was released, and they made their way from the window to the nest, that was filled to the line with Stein’s scent. A voice calling to him to give the other his bite, that he was perfect. That he should, it egged at him the entire heat. And then after wouldn’t leave him alone. His chest aching especially when he saw the other do things that… that the near lifeless body wouldn’t have done before.
Six months after that heat, Stein had told him that he had helped him. That he hadn’t imagined living past that night in the alley. The Alpha in Spirit growled “her” anger flashing inside of him that he didn’t show. Now at the two year mark, they had fucked a few times outside of heats. The other never talked about protection or pregnancy so Spirit didn’t ask. However, he found himself breathing hard and shuddering after sex laid out beside the other. And he fucking said it, he said, I love you, Stein. It felt like the world had gone still for years, usually saying “I love you” was never a difficult thing for him. He didn’t get anxiety ridden over it, it was how he felt so he said it. However, he didn’t say it to Stein. Who had appeared two years ago in that alley way, apparently recently departed for his mate and was now only at 75%. At least, from Stein’s description.
“I love you too, Spirit.”
