Maybe They Aren't So Bad.

Summary:

Scaramouche has no choice but to attend a doctor's appointment, the breathtakingly beautiful doctor he sees might just be enough to convince him getting regular check ups isn't so bad.

Notes:

Haha, I came up with this idea the other day when me and my friend were messing around lmao. As soon as I thought about it I just HAD to write it down, and here it is XD

Hope you enjoy.

Work Text:

Everyone needs a checkup every now and then, not because there's anything wrong, a person could be feeling perfectly fine health wise and may feel a check up is pointless. Scaramouche was in fact one of those people who, if he said he felt fine, then there shouldn't be a need for something as silly as a check up. However, others who surround him say otherwise, claiming the male had been showing signs of not feeling very well and insisted he get seen to by a doctor. No matter how much Scaramouche protested against the idea, Childe, one of his friends, manhandled him into a car which took them both to the nearest doctor's surgery.

"You are no longer my friend, I don't want to speak to you, I don't want to look at you. Get out of my sight" Scaramouche grumbled as he clambered out the car, slamming the door shut behind him.

Childe only laughed "ouch, you wound me with such harsh words" holding his chest, putting on an act of pain or discomfort.

"Good. I hope you crumble and die."

The taller man merely rolled his eyes "I'll do that after you've been seen to, come on, want me to hold your hand?" Offering said hand with a mischievous glint in his eyes.

Scaramouche scoffed and went on ahead, keeping his own hands well away. Honestly the sheer nerve some people had to talk down to their elders in such a manner, absolute disrespect. Childe laughed heartily, taking quick strides to catch up. Entering through automatic doors they went straight up to the counter where a young, seemingly new, receptionist greeted them both with a kind yet nervous smile.

"Hello, what brings you here today?"

Scaramouche scoffed again "we're at a doctor's surgery, why the fu- mph!"

"Hehe, don't mind him he's actually a cute puppy once you get to know him" Childe quickly cut in, hand obscuring what ever foul statement was about to come out "anyway, an appointment should've been booked, under the name Scaramouche"

The young female squeaked when her eyes met sharp sapphire, the poor girl typed something in with a noticeable sheen of sweat taking form across her exposed forehead "ah! Y- Yes, please take a seat and doctor Kaedehara will see you very shortly" she replied, gesturing over towards a small seating area.

After bidding the receptionist a kind thank you, Childe sat down making sure his short friend was beside him "seriously, could you not take that tone with people who are just trying to do their jobs" he sighed.

"Fuck off, it's your fault I'm even here you fuckin-" Scaramouche's words were once again cut off, this time by a series of coughs bubbling up from the back of his throat.

The ginger haired male rummaged around a small backpack he'd brought with them, fishing out a water bottle which he then passed over. Scaramouche fumbled to unscrew the cap, but after a few seconds the elder gulped down several mouthfuls.

"You see, that's why we're here" Childe said, slapping the other on the back, not caring about the fact it caused his poor friend to sputter. Water ended up spilling down Scaramouche's pale gray hoodie, some even ending up on his pants, thankfully they were black so whatever contents the material absorbed, couldn't be seen.

Grumpily placing the now half empty bottle back inside their shared backpack "don't talk to me, just go die" the smaller huffed, the words by now were a default thing Scaramouche often said when angry, annoyed or just not in the mood. Though Childe often heard those exact words even when his friend didn't show any sign of those, not that he ever took it to heart because he knew deep down Scaramouche cared about him. They both cared about each other mutually, just one was more outgoing than the other.

During their time of waiting other patients came in and some left, the place overall wasn't all that busy thankfully but the whole process of waiting for his name to pop up left Scaramouche feeling a tad bit restless. Anyone who knew the foul mouthed individual well enough would know staying in one place for a period of time took its toll on him, Childe turned his attention towards his friend when he took notice of how much he'd fidgeted in the space of a couple of minutes.

"It shouldn't be too much longer now, Scara" he consoled, shuffling their seats slightly closer to one another.

A pair of eyes turned, staring at him "I want to just get this done and leave, I don't want to be here" moving around some more, rubbing both palms together, the waiting only made being at a doctor's surgery all the more dreadful.

Before Childe could offer any words of comfort a large screen before them displayed Scaramouche's name, telling them which room number to go and the doctor who will see them. The younger smiled "come on, time to go visit the doctor" standing up, slinging the backpack over a sturdy shoulder.

Not needing to be told a second time Scaramouche stood, small feet rushing him over down a slightly narrow corridor. For a place that supposedly aids all sorts of people, getting a wheelchair down a hall like this mustn't be an easy task at all, such poor architecture. So distracted by the narrow halls Childe almost missed Scaramouche disappear around a corner, one they weren't supposed to go down.

"Whoa, whoa easy, not that way bud" the ginger chuckled, pulling his friend along until they finally made it to a plain looking door with a plaque displaying a name.

Kaedehara Kazuha

Childe offer another smile in hopes of calming the other down, knocking twice, announcing their arrival. A soft sounding voice called out to them from the other side, a sound that registered to Scaramouche almost instantly. Upon entering sapphire eyes met blazing scarlett, a male looking not much older than he, with white silky hair adorned with a single red stripe sat at a cluttered desk. The doctor flashed a soothing smile.

"Ah, you must be the young man I'm assessing today, correct?" Eyes locked on Scaramouche who, at first, stared blankly. Only after receiving a nudge from Childe did he nod dumbly.

Mr Kaedehara merely giggled "nice to meet you, I'm Mr Kaedehara, but please feel free to call me by Kazuha" holding a hand out towards Scaramouche.

Childe nudged his friend once again "I'll be outside if you need anything, alright Scara?" He told, receiving a nod to which he then took his leave after Kazuha ensured Scaramouche would be well looked after.

"Are you nervous?"

Scaramouche flushed bright red, why was he all of a sudden feeling so warm and tingly? Why? Clearing his throat he shrugged "o- of course not, don't be ridiculous" the male huffed, crossing both arms over a slim chest "honestly I don't even know why I'm here, I don't feel sick and only sick people come here, it's pointless for a person who isn't sick to be in a place like this" and que the rantings once more.

Kazuha quirked a brow "is that so? Well then this shouldn't take too long at all, take a seat over there" he said, gesturing at a hospital bed positioned against the wall.

Scaramouche grumbled some colourful curses under his breath but followed along anyway, perching on the edge of said bed, he took the time to scope out the room. There were a lot of things, objects, retaining to the autumn season and anything to do with nature. Heck the guy had a whole ass tree in the corner of the room with a spray bottle and a small watering can next to it, obviously this guy was a nature freak.

"You liking the layout?" Kazuha suddenly spoke up, appearing with a stethoscope around his neck as well as a small blood pressure machine.

"Hmph, not a fan of nature" Scaramouche stated defiantly "but I guess it isn't as bad as other offices I've been to" he added quietly, more so to himself than Kazuha though.

Time seemed to absolutely fly by during the whole check up process. Kazuha would start a conversation to encourage Scaramouche into talking, sometimes it would be the latter who initiated topics for them to discuss. Scaramouche found out Kazuha had recently been hired as a part time doctor in replacement for another member of staff who'd taken leave to go on holiday, he also found out that Kazuha was only a little older by about two years, the assumption about Kazuha being a nature freak had been spot on and apparently the guy also really loved literature too. The last part was definitely something they could both relate to.

Kazuha learned things about Scaramouche as well, learnt that he majored in physics and chemistry, was a lover of the stars as well as just space in general and now knew their places of work weren't so far away from each other. All in all the pair seemed to click very well and Scaramouche lost track of time so much he actually felt a little confused when Kazuha finally pulled away.

"You're statement about being fine wasn't all that farfetched after all, you do have a little redness to the back of your throat and that cough. But after taking some well deserved rest along with the medicine I prescribe you, it should clear up in no time at all" the doctor said, jotting some things down before slithering over to his desk, writing out something on a slip of paper "here."

Scaramouche took the slip, albeit cautiously "What's this?" He asked.

Kazuha laughed "no need to look so worried, just hand that in at reception and they'll grab the medicine for you" undoubtedly finding the student's skepticism utterly adorable, as well as the cute little pout evident on his face.

"Oh, okay then. Well if that's all I shall take my leave" jumping down from his seat, unfortunately moving a little too fast for his body to keep up, sending him staggering forwards only to come into contact with a warm chest. Looking up, sapphire eyes once again met scarlett.

"Take it easy, no need to rush" came the hushed words of advice, why did Kazuha's voice sound like an eternal lullaby with the power to send anyone who listened into a deep, peaceful slumber.

Scaramouche then noticed their position and quickly straightened up, cheeks flushing "r- right, well cya" he waved, rushing out the room, leaving behind a chuckling albino who felt that maybe there was more to that boy than he first thought. How intriguing .

Rounding the corner Childe had decided to linger around the halls, not that he had anything better to do while waiting for his friend's appointment to finish. Texting away to Zhongli on his phone he failed to notice a red faced Scaramouche stalking towards him.

"Come on, we're leaving"

Blue eyes followed the elder's form stroll by, making a beeline back to the lobby where the prescribed medication was picked up. Childe noticed something off about Scaramouche but couldn't exactly say what, whatever the reason it didn't stop it from being funny and of course didn't stop him from teasing the other about it.

"Why are you so red? Did you get up to something inappropriate in there?!"

"Oh my god, shut the fuck up!"

Things continued on like that, even after they made it back to their Uni dorm. It was all Kazuha's fault for being so painfully charming, so soft spoken, so undeniably serene and beautiful. The way he caught him like that to save him from what could've been a nasty fall, it replayed over and over in Scaramouche's mind like a record stuck on repeat. A record he never wanted to unloop. Those thoughts only grew when a certain discovery took place that night when it came to taking a shower, a slip of paper fluttered out of his jean pocket and when he opened it, a series of numbers had been hastily scribbled down. Numbers resembling a… phone number.

Maybe this time around, being forced to go to a doctor's appointment hadn't been so bad.
