"I don't feel so great." She thought the words were said to nobody in particular.
"You'll be alright." The voice came from nearby, but she recognized the voice.
"Zeno?"
"Hey, Melfonsena." The way his voice trembled was far from normal. "You're going to be okay."
"Told you, you could call me Seana, right?"
"I..."
"I'm bleeding internally, aren't I?"
"I don't..."
"Zeno, just once?"
"Alright, Seana. This once. They should be here soon." Except, he didn't at all seem sure. Neither was she, for that matter, as she could feel her life leaving her.
"Hey, Zeno."
"Oh. Gettermhult. He's still looking for your sister, but..." Zeno swallowed. "I had to stop when I found you like this. I can't just leave you."
Her mouth twisted into a frown. "Zeno..."
"I know I should go after your sister, but..."
"You know what's happening, right?"
"I..."
"That's why you don't want to go, because you don't want to have to tell her that, right?" The corner of her mouth twisted up.
"Don't act as if I'm that selfless. I'm staying because..."
"Zeno, kiss me."
"Hold on!"
She couldn't see his face. "Remember how you asked me out?"
"Yeah, but as Echo says you're older than me and..."
"Same year though, as we both know. Just, kiss me. Please? So I don't have any regrets."
"Yeah, but..."
"Please."
She felt the ground shift, or perhaps she simply heard the ground move. Then came the awkward kiss and a few hot tears on her face.
"Thank you."
"Don't go."
"Promise me to take care of yourself," she muttered.
"Mel... Seana? Seana!"
The last thing she heard was Zeno yelling as she succumbed to her injuries.
