Work Text:

"My heart feels so full with you."

Charles glanced up from the book he was reading. Kevin was situated across from him at the table, hand placed over an unfinished broadcast script. The pencil was resting beside the half-filled page, and for once, Kevin wasn't working. Instead, his pitch black eyes were lovingly fixated on Charles' brown ones. Although it was often difficult to pinpoint what Kevin was looking at, Charles was sure he was looking into his eyes: his certainty stemmed from the flutter in his chest.

"Oh?" Charles breathed, once he remembered how to speak. He couldn't understand how anyone could be disgusted by those eyes. They held such an intensity: it felt like looking all the way down into the ocean. Dark, elegant depths beyond the reach of light.

"I mean it. It's been a long time since I felt quite... like that." Kevin began with the softest smile. "Sure, there have been times I was certain that I was in love. But compared to this, that felt so empty. Back then, it was like the feeling pushed so hard against my heart, it gave me the sensation of fulfillment, without achieving any fulfillment at all. You never feel empty, even if we're not touching: just existing together, like right now."

Charles blushed, setting his book completely to the side.

"You have such a way with words." He responded, not sure how to process a compliment like that. "I wish I could find a way to express my feelings so beautifully."

"You don't have to."

"No, but I want to."

"Charles." Kevin said, his melodic voice soft and smooth. "The way you look at me is more beautiful than any string of words in any vernacular. You make me feel human. Loved, and cared for. "

At this point, Charles had given up on accomplishing any more work. Truth be told, he forgot what he had just been reading. He walked around the table, cupping Kevin's face gently, leaning towards him. Kevin hummed happily, closing his eyes and tilting his head ever so slightly to welcome the kiss.

Kevin's lips felt rough from scarring. They felt unlike any other lips Charles had touched: and that made him love kissing him even more.

"You are human." Charles managed between kisses. "And loved. And cared for."

Kevin responded eagerly to the affirmations, throwing his arms around his shoulders, weaving his fingers through his hair. They parted eventually, leaning their foreheads against one another in a peaceful moment of togetherness.

The pencil rolled off of the table, falling into Kevin's lap and drawing his attention away briefly.

"I need to finish this..." He said, gesturing towards the paper- still only half filled- upon the table. "I don't want to though. I wish we could just stay like this."

"Me too." Charles replied, gently running his thumb along Kevin's eye socket. He loved Kevin's eyes so much. "Hey, I have an idea."

"Hmm?" Kevin hummed curiously, picking up the pencil from his lap.

Charles stood up, walking back to his seat across the table: though instead of sitting down, he lifted the chair, carrying it to the spot right next to Kevin. Once the chair was in position, he settled into it, sliding his theology book closer.

With a smile, Charles leaned against Kevin's shoulders, and began searching for the page he left off on.

Kevin placed his left hand gently upon his knee. "So much better than words." He murmured, his pencil finally touching paper as they began to work in a heavenly silence.

A silence that whispered stories about their love so much louder than any sound could manage to.
