Work Text:

Home was something that Felix realized could change.

It didn't have to be the place you grew up in but could be anywhere and Felix had found a home in many different places.

At 8, he found it at a friend's house late at night when their parents came to tuck them both in for bed. His own parents were often unable to take care of a child so it wasn't rare for Felix to be seen in anyone's house but his own. He was grateful to have kind friends with equally caring parents who took him in without a second thought.

At 11, he found it in the treehouse that his step-father originally built for his own son only for him to not like it, but it wasn't the structure itself that made it a home. It was rather the people Felix invited to his treehouse that made it home.

At 16, he found it in the embrace of two arms with a beating heart in the middle. They were there for him when things at home got hard and offered him unconditional love that he had yet to have felt. Felix owed them the world but all they wanted in return was for him to be there with him. To go through life and all it had to offer, both good and bad, together until they were grey and old, and Felix promised he would do that.

But at 17, Felix was swept away to a new home. A new land called Neverland that he had grown up hearing fairy tales about. It was here that he was granted with the freedom to do just about anything he pleased. He was cared for, loved, given freedom and able to live without a care of what tomorrow may come because he wouldn't have to grow up. All of his desires could be fulfilled in a second but yet, the hole in his heart was never able to be filled. After who knows how many years he's spent on the island, the mark of his last home was still there and even Peter Pan knew that no amount of magic could ever fill it.

At 17, after the death of Peter Pan and being sent back, Felix went searching for a home he didn't know even existed. It's been years and despite him still looking like he did at age 17, he knew that everyone else would've aged though he didn't know how much.

He knocked on doors he visited as a child, hoping for someone from his childhood to open the door but he was only met with disappointment when a complete stranger was the one who answered the door. The pattern continued until he reached the door he hoped would reveal the person who had been his home before he went away.

Taking a deep breath, Felix mentally prepared himself before knocking on the wooden door only for silence to answer him. He knocked three more times and the process continued. He'd knock and silence would follow next. At least five minutes must've passed before a man living next door decided to speak up.

"No one has lived there since the 1900's." The elderly man said, causing Felix to freeze. He was still here during that time, he was still laying in-between his lovers arms at night and had a home until he was taken to Neverland.

"Do you know where they may have gone?" He asked.

The man simply shrugged, tilting his head as he thought for a moment before replying: "I think they moved out of the city. Somewhere on the East coast shortly after their teen died."

Felix felt his heart stop. He was already certain of the answer he'd get but he needed to be proved wrong. He hoped that the man would prove his doubts wrong as he asked, "Do you know how they died?"

"Apparently their boyfriend and a few other boys went missing one night." Was all he needed to hear before the sound of his heart breaking was all he could focus on. Mumbling a quick "thanks" to the man who went inside his home, Felix fell to the ground. His legs no longer able to stand the weight of his grief and broken heart.

At 17, Felix realized that home was something that could not only change, but disappear in mere seconds.
