I've never seen you shine so bright

Summary:

Adrien is the happiest man alive.

prompt: forevermore

Notes:

July is drawing to a close and I can't help feeling a little sad. I loved doing this challenge and I had so much fun that it is with regret that I post the last one.
I promised fluff and I couldn't do it any other way because today is also my husband's birthday and for him I had to write something fitting.
Thank you for joining me on this journey and I hope you liked what I came up with this month!

Work Text:

Marinette, his lady, his best friend, the love of his life. She’d always been all of these but now she was something more.

She was officially his wife. He still couldn’t believe it was real, even as he watched the ring gleaming on her finger. As hard as it was to believe, it was the truth. Adrien felt giddy, drunk on love, high on laughter.

The celebration was small. Only family and their closest friends. Her father and mother had cooked, Alya was taking photos, while Nino was playing the music, already giving them a signal that their first dance was coming soon.

Adrien wanted to drag Marinette away from everyone and just have her to himself, no matter how selfish this was. But he also couldn’t help melting as she moved around the room as the guests congratulated them, her arm interlaced with his, making them inseparable. It wasn’t clear who was showing off who. His face hurt from smiling and he felt light-headed. He’d totally forgotten to eat. But it was all worth it.

“Give it up for Mr. and Mrs. Agreste!” Nino boomed in the microphone and everyone cheered.

Adrien loved the sound of that. Their eyes met as he led her to the dance floor. She was a vision of beauty in a simple white dress she had designed herself. Her hair was up, dark tendrils framing her face. But it was the love shining in her eyes and the happy smile on her lips that were the best accessories, making her more beautiful than ever in his eyes.

The music was just something in the background and his feet were moving on autopilot. He had eyes only for her, she was the only thing that mattered.

“You look happy,” she whispered. They hadn’t gone for an elaborate first dance so he could just hold her in his arms and she could even rest her head on his shoulder as they swayed to the music.

“This is an understatement,” he chuckled, his lips brushing her temple.

There were no words to describe how happy he was and how much he loved her. To his infinite surprise, whenever he thought he couldn’t possibly love her more, he did just that. He loved her so much that he doubted that even death could separate them. She’d brought him back to life so many times after all, because they were meant to be together.

He knew he didn’t need to tell her that. She knew how much it meant to him for her to have his name, to wear his ring and to be there with him, celebrating their union. After all this time, he had what he’d wanted the most - to be with her without hiding, without fear. And she seemed equally happy, which was the biggest gift for him.

Everything was perfect. He missed his parents, of course. But he’d found a new family and he was more than optimistic about the future, hoping for them to start one of their own pretty soon. They had gone so far, they could achieve everything they set their minds to. They had forever to do it after all, because this was how long he’d need to love her. And it still wouldn’t be enough.
