She had no idea how to go about this.
She saw the three Mage Sisters walk into the Dream Palace one day, as Kirby introduced them to the rest of the Star Allies. Lumi herself was brought along to maintain the Palace or act as watch, so she was introduced to them as well.
She was dubious of them at first, knowing of what happened recently, and not knowing whether they'd attempt to push their beliefs on the group or not. However, she unexpectedly connected with them as they trained: Francisca and Lumi bonded on the fact that they were both ice mages, and they sought to teach each other their tricks; she and Flamberge had similar personalities (if Lumi's introvertedness was discounted), and she was fascinated by how she fought and decorated the field with flame; and Zan, with whom she shared similar passions and traits.
Lumi was particularly fascinated with Zan. She was stoic, loyal, and faced everything that came at her directly. It was weird; save for a few traits, they were opposites in how they acted, but Lumi couldn't help but be attracted to her.
Lumi wondered if there was anything underneath the severe demeanor; she wanted to see her smile, laugh. She wanted her to smile and laugh at her.
That, and she was beautiful, too. Admittedly, all of the Mage Sisters were beautiful, but Zan very much caught Lumi's eye. With her sharp gaze, her nice face, and her pretty lips that Lumi may or may not think about too much, she felt that it was a losing battle.
Okay, so she had a crush on the lightning mage, she'll admit that. And she would go and try to shoot her shot, except for several problems.
First, Zan is either neutral towards Lumi or she doesn't like her. Turns out, she hates cowardice in any manner, and looked disapprovingly at her one day when she hid behind a slag of ice. That, and the ice mage fought with her when she decided to pick on Ribbon and Adeleine.
Zan expected too much of those children. She seemed to make amends, though.
Second, Lumi's pretty sure Zan doesn't like her that way, even if she thought more positively of her. She could be straight, maybe her belief system doesn't allow for that, and she probably wouldn't find Lumi attractive. The traveler sadly noted the differences between durable muscle and soft chub, and she thought of her flaws, her face in particular. And, even if Zan did find her pretty, she still had her personality to contend with. Her timidity, her softness, her wildness and impulsivity tend to repulse people, and unfortunately, Lumi hasn't figured out the problem yet.
Third of all, Lumi already had bad luck in her previous relationship. She dated a known robotics engineer, and, while things were smooth with him, he only saw her as a social status symbol and a wallet. Even though she knew he was using her, she was pretty sure some of the disinterest was her fault.
Lumi had put herself into a spiral of negativity, and anxiety bubbled up in her as Zan talked to someone. Part of the anxiety was also at the realization that nothing was going to happen between them, no matter how hard Lumi would try.
Ah, well. It seemed to be a trend, anyway. Plus, the dating game seemed hard. Guess she'll have to settle for admiring from a distance.
