Michael Mell knew better than to get stoned and play emulated games on his PC when he could be studying for his upcoming AP World History final.
But here he was, playing The Sims 2 on his NDS emulator, wondering what the fuck sanity was for and why it went down so quickly in the desert.
He knew this game was kinda shitty, but he didn’t want to play on his NES or SNES right now. When he sat on a beanbag high he felt like the world was spinning. At least in his chair the ground didn’t move so much.
“Mahal!” Mama’s voice rang down to the basement. “Nag-aaral ka ba?” Are you studying?
“Oo,” Michael responded noncommittally, voice lightly slurred. He took a long inhale from his joint, blowing the smoke to the side. Yes.
He could hear Mama make her way down the stairs. “Naaamoy ko iyong mga kasukasuan,” She said, voice lined with a slight bit of disappointment. I can smell your joints.
Michael looked over at her as she got to the bottom of the stairs. He smiled sheepishly at her. “..sorry.” He snuffed out the joint on his ashtray.
“Mahal,” Mama started, her voice soft. “You need to be studying. I know your grades are falling. If Nanay finds out-”
“I know,” Michael mumbled. “Just.. got a lot of shit on my mind recently.”
Mama stood behind him, hands gently on his shoulders. “You know I’m always here for you, Michael. Whatever it is, we can always talk about it.”
“I know,” Michael repeated. “Getting high makes me forget it all.”
Mama messaged his shoulders to calm him down, make him relax. It worked and Michael paused the game, focusing on his mother. “...I’m thinking about a boy.”
Michael’s mothers knew he was gay before he came out, just like how they knew he was trans before he came out. It was amazing how his mothers could read him so well.
He’d only had one boyfriend before and a handful of crushes. His boyfriend didn’t last long after he’d found out Michael was trans. They were very transphobic, and it had crushed Michael’s spirits a lot, so he hadn’t had a boyfriend in a few years.
“What boy?” Mama asked him, patiently waiting for his response.
“Mmph,” Michael grumbled, sighing. He knew that if he told her, she’d make him come over so Michael could confess. “Been crushing for a few years on him.”
“Oh yeah?” Michael nodded. “Who is this boy, then? One of your new friends?” Mama asked.
“No,” Michael mumbled. “We’ve been friends for a while.”
Mama raised an eyebrow. “Jeremy?” She guessed.
Michael went red and sat up straight, turning and looking up at her. “Whaaaat, noooo.. never . Nope. Not Jeremy. Absolutely not.”
Mama knew better and she shook her head in amusement. “Study before bed, okay?” She kissed his forehead and then left to go upstairs, leaving him be.
“Shit,” Michael mumbled. School tomorrow was gonna fucking suck.
