As you walk through the streets, you suddenly hear the ringing. Ring ring. Ring ring. You turn, trying to figure out where the sound is coming from. Ring ring. Ring ring. Your instincts tell you to run away, but you are already heading towards it. Ring ring. Ring ring. Your friends ask you what’s wrong, one of them tries to grab you, but you can’t stop. You have to pick up. Ring ring. Ring ring. You start running, hoping to get there before the ringing stops.
You turn the corner and now you can see it. The many arms, floating disembodied in the air, each holding in its hand a phone. Every single one shakes as it rings. Ring ring. Ring ring. Your training tells you to stay way. This thing is dangerous, you have to destroy it, or fight it or run away. Ring ring. Ring ring. Isn’t someone else going to get it? No. You have to do it. You have to pick up the phone. You can’t just let it ring ring, ring ring. The sound surrounds you now. It fills your ears, your thoughts, your muscles. You watch as your hand raises up towards the monster, trying to grab one of the phones. Ring ring. Ring ring. The arms oblige. One slowly moves towards you, holding the phone out for you to answer. Ring ring. Ring ring. You bring the phone to your ear.
It’s for you.
