Telling Trixie

Summary:

Dan and Chloe tell Trixie Lucifer is the Devil, with a surprising result (cross posted from FF.net)

Notes:

I originally wrote this short fic before 5b but this fits best anytime after 5x10 and before 515--- or it can be an AU story. There's a companion story of sorts I will be posting in a few days about Trixie/Lucifer discussing his devil status and more.

Work Text:

Dan and Chloe headed for Trixie's room. "Should I tell her or should you?" Chloe asked Dan.

"I'm still trying to process it," Dan admitted. The detective sighed. "You're- you're sure I slept with God's wife? I mean not that we're telling her that part."

"Ex-wife," Chloe corrected. "The first time, yeah. Remember she was Charlotte Richards again when she came back."

"Oh God." Dan shook his head. "No pun intended. Now I see why those phrases annoy Lucifer."

"Let's just do this," Chloe insisted. They knocked on the door and Trixie yelled for them to come in. They found her doing her nails at her desk. "Trix, we need to talk," Chloe said, seriously.

Trixie took in the sight of her very serious looking parents. "Is everything okay? Is someone hurt?" Trixie worried.

"No," Dan replied immediately. "Everyone's fine. And everyone is going to be fine. Don't be scared, okay Honey?" Dan then gave Trixie a hug.

Trixie raised an eyebrow. "I'd be less scared if you weren't acting weird."

Chloe sat down on Trixie's bed. "I would have told you sooner but I didn't know how you, or your Dad for that matter, would react. It's hard to believe and I haven't known for that long, really." Chloe could hear Dan clear his throat. "Okay so I've known for over a year, right before we went to Italy. But I was trying to protect you and your Dad. I didn't want you to be frightened because there's really nothing to be frightened about-"

"Mom. Dad. Just tell me what I'm not supposed to be afraid of already," Trixie said.

Chloe and Dan looked at each other. "Lucifer, he's… he's the devil. The real devil. But he's-" Chloe began to explain.

"Yeah. What about Lucifer being the devil?" Trixie asked. "Does God want him to go away again to Hell or something? Can I finally say 'hell' instead of 'Florida'? Oh No! Is Maze going too this time?"

Chloe and Dan were dumbfounded. "You know?" Dan asked. Trixie looked back and forth between her parents. "Don't we all? Wait. Mom you didn't realize he was the devil until before Italy?"

"When did you know?" Chloe asked. "How did you know?"

"He tells everyone!" Trixie exclaimed. "So does Maze. No one can be lying all the time like that. And Maze put her Halloween mask on way too fast and I didn't see it in her pocket or anything. Then Lucifer and Maze seemed to be talking in code about a sword, but it was too long for it to be a lie. Of course it was real."

"Halloween mask?" Dan asked.

"When she took me Trick-or-treating. She told me to turn around and she put on her mask. It looked so cool. But that wasn't the only clue."

"So you've known?" Chloe had to say it out loud to help process it. "Longer than we have."

"Well, if I knew you guys didn't know I would have told you," she promised. "I thought maybe you really didn't wanna talk about it and you wanted me to go along with the grown-up stories."

Dan put a hand up, his mouth opened, then it closed, then he opened it again. "And you're okay with it?"

"I was mad when Maze said bad things about me. But they won't hurt us because they're demons. You guys go after bad humans who are more likely to hurt us everyday."

"What do you know about Lucifer's Mom?" Dan had to ask. Chloe swatted his arm.

"I think it was a bad divorce. Even worse than when you moved out, Daddy. I found out the story on Maze's Mom and Lucifer's ring recently for Maze. We tricked Lucifer into telling me about her."

Chloe and Dan were speechless. Their child knew more than they did. And plots with Maze.

Trixie sighed as a worrying thought hit her. "Mom? Dad? Do we need to talk about Santa? He's not real. It's been you two, right? You don't think he's real and it's been Grandma this whole time or something, right?"

I hope you all enjoyed this one-shot. But the companion to look out for will be called "Lucifer's Advocate" where they discus being the devil, Maze's scam in 5x4 and more.
