Work Text:
Rin came running in from the hallway, hands clutched tight around her glittery plastic tiara. Her brother looked up from his desk as she came barreling into his room.
“Nii-san!” Rin squealed, throwing herself at his legs. “Come play with me!”
Sesshomaru looked down at the homework on his desk, frowning once again. The high-schooler really did need to finish it and not indulge Rin. When he turned to face Rin again, her face fell, her smile dimming.
“Nii-san are you busy again?”
It was his turn to frown now at the sight of Rin’s face. Sighing, Sesshomaru placed the pencil in his hands down on the desk.
“Rin,” he stated standing, “perhaps I can play with you for sometime today.”
Rin’s frown disappeared in an instant, her eyes wide with happiness! “Come on then nii-sama.”
Rin grabbed his hand and dragged him out of the room and down the hall towards hers. She forced him to sit on a stool that was much too small for his large frame, and proceeded to run around getting him the proper attire for his role.
A paper crown soon sat on his head, a lilac bathrobe on his shoulders. He recognized it as an old one belonging to his stepmother Izayoi.
“You’re a king now nii-san!”
Rin exclaimed happily. “And I’m the princess! Now we just have to find you a queen.”
Sesshomaru wondered where Rin was going to find a queen for him. He distinctly hoped it wasn’t one of her dolls but soon after realized that a doll was better than being roped into pretend play with whoever else Rin might choose.
“Sesshomaru-kun?” His stepmother’s voice called out. Standing, Sesshomaru made his way out of Rin’s room to go into the hallway and see what his stepmother wanted.
What he didn’t expect was to see his classmate standing right next to her, the classmate he had a crush on.
“Taisho-kun.” Kagome gasped, eyes widening at his attire. Sesshomaru’s own eyes widened as well. He took off the crown hurriedly and was in the process of taking the bathrobe off too when Rin poked her head out of her room, crying out at his actions.
“Nii-san?” She asked. “You can’t play anymore?”
Sesshomaru paused, caught between appeasing his sister and trying to alleviate his embarrassment in front of his crush.
“You’re playing?” Kagome asked, approaching the two of them. “May I ask what game?”
Rin stepped out into the hallway, eyes assessing the older girl. She looked at her brother, then nodded her head.
“We’re playing make-believe.” She informed Kagome. “And you can be the queen: Nii-san’s queen.”
Sesshomaru felt embarrassment at Rin’s words, his ears tinging red. “Rin,” he managed out,“you can’t just order someone to play make-believe with you. I’m sure Higurashi has better things to do with her time.”
Rin pouted and looked towards Kagome. “Do you?” She asked. “Or can you play with us?”
Kagome giggled, bending down to bop Rin’s nose with a finger. “Of course I have time to play with you.
And,” she ventured, sneaking a glance up at Sesshomaru, “I don’t mind being Taisho-kun’s queen.” Her own cheeks took on a rosy tint now, blue eyes glancing anywhere but at him.
Sesshomaru reached out, catching her hand and her attention.
“You really wouldn’t mind?” He found himself asking.
Kagome’s eyes widened, and her mouth parted. She smiled shyly, shrugging her shoulders and pushing a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
“Of course not.”
From behind them, Rin comedically winked at Izayoi. Their plan to get nii-san and his crush together was now accomplished!
