Work Text:
“What do you want?” J0hn asked, his voice raised with a hint of a laugh.
“Mmmmnothing,” Larry mumbled, wrapping the blanket tighter around himself. He buried his maskless face into J0hn’s stomach. The cyborg’s face panel flushed blue. He ran a mechanical hand through his boyfriend’s hair, taking a cursory glance over at the alarm clock that was a few minutes from going off. For him, of course. Larry could sleep in however long he needed.
“C’mon. Go back to sleep,” he pressed a kiss to the top of Larry’s head, “It’s like, fuck-this-shit-o-clock.” The room was dark with the shades down, and warm. He could see Larry’s tired face illuminated by the glow of his own eyes. Greyer patches of skin on his face were streaked blue from the light. It took him a moment to talk.
“It’s… six.” A sleepy blink. Then another. A couple more. Not unexpected, given Larry’s number of eyes.
“You gotta’ rest,” J0hn sighed, unwilling to unwrap his tired boyfriend’s arms from around his waist, “And I gotta get to the lab.”
“Spirit sickness suuuucks,” Larry groaned, tightening his grip, “Stay home… my work stuff is already here. It’ll be eaaaaasy.”
“You make a compelling offer,” J0hn moved his hand from his boyfriend’s hair to his hands, presumably to escape, but paused, “Sephiroth’s at the lab.”
“Fiiiine,” Larry allowed his hands to be held and moved, curling up in a puddle on the sheets. A somewhat literal puddle, considering his shapeshifting composition.
“See you when I get home, babe,” the cyborg slid out of bed, “Dude, don’t forget to eat, okay? Love you.”
“Love you too,” his voice was muffled by the blanket. J0hn smiled, leaning down to give Larry a parting kiss on the forehead. The shapeshifter’s soft smile creased the extra eyes on his cheeks. He wished he could see it the rest of the day. He supposed he would , once Larry had recovered.
It had been a long journey to get to where they were- a plot arc, even. Now, they were on the other side. Nowhere to look but up, right? Hopefully. Even if things took a turn- they often did, around Kerfuffle- at least he’d have Larry by his side.
At least.
J0hn finished getting ready and headed out, a coffee warming his hands and the thought of a Floridian dork warming his heart.
