Work Text:
“It’s just a little bullet wound.”
You stared at Roy, an incredulous look on your face. How could someone so smart, be so stupid?
It was supposed to be a quiet night alone in Star City, Roy was going to be with Oliver reliving the old days when they were Green Arrow and Speedy. But when he stumbled through the window of your shared apartment, a large bullet wound in his side you knew something was up.
“Little bullet wound?! You’re bleeding out on my couch!” You cried, flailing your arms in the air.
“Our couch,” Roy winced, gripping his side. “And can you not be so loud? Lian is still asleep.”
You huffed crossing your arms, he may have a point but the risk of him bleeding out was more important than Lian sleeping. Helping him sit up, you moved towards the hallway.
“Y/N, sweetheart, relax. I’m going to be okay.” he comforted.
“You were shot!”
“Tis but a flesh wound.”
You glared at him, making Roy shrink back into his spot. “Love you?”
“I love you too, but don’t you dare even think of moving.”
Walking out, you made your way to the bathroom and pushed the door open. Digging through cabinets, you desperately looked for the supplies you needed. You hated when Roy got hurt, and he knew it too. It was probably why he tried to play it off so calmly; to spare your poor nerves.
Heading back to the living room as quickly as you could, you found Roy sprawled out on the couch gripping his side tightly. Dropping to your knees, you began to lift his shirt up, visibly wincing at the sight of the hole in his side.
Taking a deep breath, you began to clean the wound before grabbing the forceps. You hated this part, but Roy needed to get the bullet out more. Trying to steady your shaking hands, you felt a hand take yours and looked up at him.
Roy had an assuring smile on his face, gripping your hand in his.
“Hey, I know you can do it. There’s no one I trust more to do this than you.”
The look he gave made you feel better, but it didn’t quell the worry building up inside you. Bringing his hand to your lips, you pressed a soft kiss to the back of his hand before getting to work.
You knew it hurt, but you knew Roy was trying to put on a brave face so as not to worry you even more. His face scrunched up each time you applied pressure, but you couldn’t stop. After a few minutes of digging, you finally got the bullet out and plopped it into the bowl you had prepared.
Letting out the breath you didn’t know you were holding, you leaned back before beginning to stitch up Roy’s side. The whole time, he was still and listened to you hum a soft tune trying to keep your mind off of things.
With his side stitched up, Roy visibly relaxed and looked at you. Reaching up, his hand cupped your face as you leaned into his touch. Taking his hand in yours, you pressed a kiss to his palm. Carefully, Roy sat up and pulled you closer.
You crawled into his lap and buried your face in his shoulder. Roy always smelled of cinder and metal, it fit with his fiery hair and attitude. Wrapping his arms around your waist, Roy held you close to his chest comforting you in the best way he could. He was never good with words, but he knew what you needed from him.
“Come on, sweetheart, let’s get into bed.”
Getting off his lap, you helped Roy to his feet as you walked to your shared bedroom. Refusing to let his hand go, you walked side by side down the hall making a stop outside Lian’s room. Peeking in the door, you saw her curled up with the blanket Oliver and Dinah got for her when she was a baby cuddling a small bear you got her for Christmas the year before.
Pushing the door open, Roy walked in and placed a soft kiss on Lian’s forehead before walking out. Looking at you, he flashed a tired smile your way before heading to the bedroom once again with you right behind him.
Once you both were in the room, Roy tried to lift his top off wincing as he did. Crossing your arms, you walked over with a huff. “You know, I am not opposed to helping you undress right?”
Roy rolled his eyes, a glimmer of mischief in his gaze. “I am perfectly aware of that sweetheart,”
“So let me help you.”
It was Roy’s turn to huff, lifting his arms carefully so you could put it off of him. Once he was shirtless, you admired his upper body. It was evident Roy was an archer and a damn good one at that. The way his muscles rippled as he leaned into your touch, made you bite your lip.
Looking down at you, Roy couldn’t hide his smile. “See something you like?”
Placing your hand on his chest, you looked up at him. “Something I love,”
“Wow, you really only want me for my body huh?”
He may have been injured, but it wasn’t his head that was shot. Raising your hand, you hit him on the back of the head with a glare. “I love you, idiot.”
Smiling down at you, Roy cupped your face in both of his hands squishing your cheeks together. “I love you too,” He pressed a kiss to your puckered lips before climbing into the bed carefully.
You watched as he laid back, not bothering to cover up with the blanket you had. Roy was naturally warmer than the average person, so you really had no need for blankets unless it was a cold night. Even then when it got cold, you would curl up with a thin blanket and cuddle up against Roy.
Feeling your eyes on him, he patted the spot next to him.
“You are so impatient, Roy Harper.” you giggled.
“Blame it on the gunshot wound.”
“Yes, because we all know how big of a baby you become when injured.” Taking off your shirt and shorts, you pulled on one of Roy’s old shirts and crawled into bed with him. Curling into his uninjured side, you kissed his cheek before wrapping your arms around him.
“What happened out there tonight? I thought you were going to be with Oliver?”
“I was,” Roy looked down at you. “We were just sitting on a roof talking, laughing about old times when a bunch of thugs showed up and started shooting at us. We came out of it mostly unscathed, Oli got a bullet to the shoulder that Dinah is probably nursing right now.”
“So what happened to you?”
“He got shot in the shoulder, and I stepped in to protect him. Can’t fire arrows well with a busted shoulder right? One of them got me in the side before I knocked him out. Oliver helped me get here before leaving for home, he knew you would take care of me.”
Taking a deep breath, you nuzzled into him more. “Tell him I said thank you next time you see him please?”
“Sure thing, sweetheart. Now, why don’t you get some rest? I can tell you’re exhausted.”
Closing your eyes, you curled into him carefully. Roy rested his hand on your head, stroking your hair softly between his fingers. He knew you found comfort in this kind of thing, and he also knew that you were still a little shaken from stitching him up. He could tell by the way you clung to him like he would disappear in the night.
Humming a tune, Roy felt you fully relax into his side. Before he knew it, you were sound asleep. He watched you for what felt like hours, but it was only a few minutes. He couldn’t imagine his life without you, it was like he’d known you all his life. You had been the perfect maternal role model for Lian, and he couldn’t be more grateful for it. It seemed she loved you almost as much as he did.
Closing his own eyes, he drifted off to sleep with thoughts of you and Lian in his mind. He couldn’t be more grateful for the life he had.
