from zero to i love you

Summary:

Kyungsoo just wants happiness in his marriage and Jongin just happens to be an alpha who chose him to be his omega.

Notes:

a random burst of idea without much sense lol

Work Text:

In a society dominated by alphas, justice barely applies to the ones under the hierarchy. Alphas are above the law, if not most of it. Politicians and business tycoons, 95 percent of them are alphas and majority of them are incapable of doing their jobs well.

Marriage, for alphas, is like having a pair of indoor slippers. It stays in the house. You leave it when you go out and use it when you’re home. It only serves its purpose where it belongs.

As an omega, Kyungsoo merely thinks of it as a mandatory achievement to remain relevant at the top where married alphas gain more recognition with the number of affairs they have outside their marriage. They’re collecting them like medals and trophies.

At the age of 22, Kyungsoo is like any other omega who had not much choice but get into the same contract he despised the most.

It’s been half a year since he was unwillingly taken away from his humble home. Right after graduation, he was chosen to be another victim of the life sentence, just like his older brother who’s unhappily married to his alpha abroad.

He sometimes wishes he’s born a beta like his father. No one cares about them, they can marry anyone they want and enjoy life outside like an average person should. No contracts tying them down.

Marriage with Kim Jongin, a business tycoon who had a reputation of disliking omegas, is somehow what Kyungsoo expected it to be. Living in a meaningless luxury yet better than most stories he heard from other omegas.

Unlike most, he’s a free omega. He gets to leave the penthouse, see his family and friends, go shopping and even get a job. All this freedom under his alpha’s terms and conditions. He’s always being watched, his activities are recorded and reported to the businessman and his phone has a tracker. He doesn’t really mind that but he badly wants what he can’t have, the job.

In this society, omegas are deemed useless no matter how rich nor smart. They often get told their jobs are to serve their alphas and give birth. His alpha offered him a job but he doesn’t want one that’s handed to him to prove himself that he’s worth whatever he’s left with his rights.

Most of all, he considers himself lucky that he’s married to that certain alpha with the certain reputation since it saves him the trouble of being the talk of the town. Yet still, it’s a wonder why Kim Jongin married an omega even with the dislike of them, and why him.

He’s an average omega, not even worth a background check. He’s not from a well-off family. His beta and omega parents are normal people just trying to raise him and his brother.

Despite the almost non-existent relationship he has with his alpha, they benefit from each other. His alpha unquestioningly caters to his needs when he’s in heat and he returns the favor when his husband goes on a rut which so far only happened once throughout their marriage.

The first two months they lived together was the start of having suppressants banned at home. Eventually, his alpha noticed he hasn’t had his heat and asked him if he’s using pills. Undeniably, it’s a lot better to be with his alpha than take suppressants.

But that’s all there is aside from his daily duties as a jobless husband. It’s only once a week that a maid comes to clean so he takes his time doing chores and he especially loves cooking. It’s an advantage that he now has his own kitchen with everything he needs. Though it’s sometimes disappointing when his alpha won’t eat breakfast or can’t make it home for dinner.

They do have small talks, mostly just him asking his alpha about his day at work to which the other gives short answers. Nothing too personal.

Recently, things have changed. He likes how his alpha comes home on time to have dinner with him and even joins him for breakfast. He assumes things are well at work. Though, communication hasn’t improved. It’s also been two weeks straight that his husband is staying home for the weekend. It rarely happens and it only confirms his assumption that work is steady.

But he also cancelled appointments with Sehun, his beta friend, two weekends in a row. He couldn’t leave with his alpha around. It’s not like he’s not permitted to go but it seems disrespectful to go and see someone when his alpha is right in front of him.

After breakfast, he watches his alpha enter the home office and he’s sure he’d be staying there for hours just like the previous weekend. Right after he’s done washing the dishes, he hears his name being called from where his husband retreated half an hour ago.

He comes in quietly and stays by the doorway, waiting for his alpha’s approval to come closer. “Yes, alpha?”

His husband looks up from his desk, leaning back in his chair with a sigh. “I hate repeating what I already said about you addressing me like that. Come here.”

Head low, he walks around the desk to stand next to his alpha. “I’m sorry. I won’t do it again. But how should I call you?”

The older doesn’t say anything but stares at him. Kyungsoo is fully aware that alphas tend to have tempers yet so far, his alpha hasn’t shown such attitude. Admittedly, he gets anxious whenever Jongin keeps quiet like this.

“Nothing formal,” the alpha finally says, turning his swivel chair to face him. “You haven’t been outside the whole week?”

He shakes his head. There was no need for him to go out since the groceries were delivered and it’s been quite hot outside.

When the alpha stands up, he unconsciously takes a step back out of defense. Yes, he’s still scared of his alpha even if there's no reason for him to. They’re naturally intimidating to omegas.

Jongin’s hand grips his arm, not rough but firm. The older is suddenly nosing his neck that makes him shut his eyes at the contact, relieved that it’s nothing harmful. “When was the last time?”

He mentally calculates the last time they slept together but before he can give out an answer, the older interrupts his thoughts.

“I’m sure it’s about time for your heat. No signs of it coming, your pheromone level’s the same but,” the alpha pulls away and takes his seat again, “something’s off with your scent.”

He opens his eyes to his husband reaching for the phone on the desk. “Something’s wrong?”

“We can’t be sure.”

--

The next day, Jongin drives him somewhere he wasn’t told about. It’s only the third time that they rode the car together and the alpha himself is driving.

Yesterday was uneventful aside from that conversation in the home office so Kyungsoo’s curious where they’re going. The moment he woke up earlier, his husband told him to get ready.

They stop in front of a private villa, waiting for the gates to open. He gives his alpha a glance, itching to ask where they are and why they’re there but he decides to keep quiet.

An unfamiliar alpha greets them as they enter the house, introducing himself as a doctor and a close friend of his alpha. Dr. Park Chanyeol.

To think of it, he doesn’t even know who his husband’s friends are.

“Dude, you really have no respect for other people’s rest days,” the doctor tells the other alpha.

Maybe there’s actually something wrong with him, he thinks. Why else would they see a doctor, especially on a Sunday and outside the clinic?

“It’s my driver’s rest day, I’m driving,” Jongin retorts.

They’re led into an office but half-way, his husband’s phone rings and gestures for him to go ahead as the older stays behind to answer the call.

“So, Kyungsoo,” the doctor starts as they enter the office. “I wasn’t at your wedding so it’s my first time meeting you in person. I always wonder what made him decide to actually get married.”

“Oh, uh,” he rubs his nape, not sure what to say. “I have no idea.”

“But,” Dr. Park takes his seat behind the desk and smiles at him, “I know why he chose you.”

“Huh?”

“It’s not my place to say it though. Take a seat, Kyungsoo. I know exactly why you’re here and I already know what to tell you before you even came.”

He does as told, taking the seat in front of the desk, careful not to make unnecessary noise. “Is there something wrong with me?”

“No, no. You’re perfectly fine. Though there’s something wrong with the two of you, being this clueless.”

His alpha finally comes in, immediately taking the empty seat next to him. Dr. Park proceeds to give him a physical check-up, his husband attentively watching. When the doctor’s done, he types something in his computer for a while and fills out a form. All the while, no one says anything. Kyungsoo is anxious and also relieved that there doesn’t seem to be anything seriously wrong with him.

“How much longer?” Jongin asks.

“Patience is a virtue, Mr. Kim,” the doctor snickers. “Aren’t you too excited to know?”

“You’re taking too long.”

“So anyway,” Dr. Park sets his eyes on him, a big grin on his lips. “Congratulations, you’re pregnant.”

Silence.

What?

“You can’t come up with that conclusion just by that ,” his alpha states. “You didn’t do any test.”

“That’s exactly the reason why you didn’t become a doctor. Let me explain. According to your observations yesterday, no signs of incoming heat and a faint difference in his scent. Those two alone are the basic signs of pregnancy. His body isn’t his alone anymore so there are changes in his pheromones. I just checked his physical condition to make sure he’s fit and healthy enough to carry…”

He stands up, feeling his hands go cold. “I need to use the bathroom,” he excuses himself.

“Oh, ah, Ms. Bae, please lead our guest to the restroom!”

A woman comes to assist him.

He’s scared. It’s not part of the plan to get pregnant. It’s a big responsibility and he should be expected to give birth to an alpha or else, he’d cause shame to his family, especially to his husband.

Omegas who can’t give birth to alphas are mostly abandoned by their alphas, along with their children.

“Are you okay?” The woman asks him before his knees give up and lose consciousness.

--

Kyungsoo wakes up to an unfamiliar view. This isn’t their bedroom.

The door opens, his alpha enters the room with the doctor. “You’re awake,” Jongin says with a sigh of relief. “If you’re feeling okay, we’ll go home now.”

He sits up quietly, trying not to think of what happened. Collecting himself, he pretends he’s fine, afraid that he’s causing inconvenience to his alpha as if being pregnant is not enough.

The ride home is quiet as well. He can’t read what’s on his alpha’s mind. Jongin had always been intimidating but after the revelation, it seems to double.

When they reach their penthouse, he can only trail behind his alpha to the home office. As soon as his husband is settled on his desk, Kyungsoo bows his head in apology.

“I’m sorry, alpha.”

Still not looking up, he hears the older’s response. “For what?”

“I’m sorry for the unwanted pregnancy.”

“It’s already there. There’s nothing we can do.”

“You have the choice, alpha.”

He hears the chair move, followed by footsteps coming closer to him. He covers his face in fear of what’s coming next.

“You’re suggesting I let you abort my child, Kyungsoo?”

“T-there’s no guarantee it’s an alpha.” He flinches when he feels a hand on his arm, an audible gasp escaping his lips. He looks up at his alpha, terrified.

Without a word, Jongin leaves him in the room. Somehow, the alpha looked calm rather than upset. Was he just imagining it?

--

It’s been three weeks since the pregnancy revelation and he barely had time to eat with his husband. Jongin’s been going to work early and coming home late. The service maid comes in every weekday and Saturday, from 7am to 5pm. Over text, his alpha warned him about doing chores except on Sundays, though still under supervision. All he has been doing since then is make dinner and wash their dishes afterwards. On Sundays, a little watering of the plants and dinner.

Jongin washes the dishes on Sundays. Surprising,

He hasn’t seen any of his friends and family as well since the alpha’s always around on weekends and that’s the only time he can get to visit them. At this rate, he’s surely going to be banned from going out. Successful alphas who married for convenience often hide their pregnant omegas. News only comes out when they give birth to alphas. He’s probably going to be the same with them.

The alpha hasn’t said anything about telling his friends and family about the pregnancy as well.

As days go by, Kyungsoo notices how their communication has improved. Jongin is asking more questions about him when they have the chance to eat dinner together. In the midst of this comfort, he’s still fearing for the worst. Pregnancy is usually the start of the alphas’ affairs outside marriage since omegas’ heat cycle is postponed during the whole period.

In his second trimester, Kyungsoo’s bump is already obvious even when wearing a sweater. He can feel it moving already and he can only wish to share it with his alpha.

Even when Jongin shows little interest in the pregnancy, the alpha always caters to his needs. His cravings, his vitamins, and scheduled check-ups are personally taken care of by his alpha. But after a gender-reveal ultrasound, the little interest gradually increased.

It’s a boy.

Kyungsoo learned from Chanyeol that alphas tend to start getting interested when they see their baby’s sonogram for the first time and the doctor seems to be right. he  once caught the alpha reading a pregnancy book in the middle of the night next to him in bed. Sometimes he feels the alpha’s hand on his bump when the older thinks he’s asleep. He’s happy to know that Jongin wants the baby as much as he does. It’s sweet, even though they have to keep it a secret for now.

Today, Jongin asks him to get dressed and when he asks why, the alpha answers they’re shopping for their baby’s stuff.

“Huh?”

“Is today not a good day for you to go out?”

He quickly shakes his head in disagreement. “I- it’s been a while since I went out. I mean, we can do it online?”

“Online?”

“And what if they see us together?” He can’t risk them being on the news. He would hate to see a headline that would ruin his alpha’s image because of him.

“I don’t see any reason why I can’t go out in public with my husband.”

Kyungsoo doesn't get it. He's actually outside, walking in the streets next to his alpha whose arm is secured around him.

A business tycoon like Kim Jongin isn't a stranger in this part of the city. After all, it's where the elites go to shop. Even with eyes on them, the alpha doesn't seem bothered at all.

The way they stare makes him uncomfortable, how their awe in seeing the alpha turns sour when their eyes set on him. He is, after all, just a lowly omega, forced to marry a man like Jongin.

He keeps his discomfort to himself and pretends not to notice the stares throughout the day.

Shopping actually distracts him. He's having fun choosing furniture for the nursery without worrying about the expenses. He's amazed at how indulged they both were in preparing to welcome their little one.

"Alpha, can I go use the bathroom for a minute?" He asks with hesitation that he might ruin the fun. The older is having a good time choosing the crib right now.

"Let's go."

"No, I can just go. It's just around the corner."

"Okay."

The second he steps away, he feels the discriminating looks towards him. He hurries into the restroom and it's a good thing no one's around. He can calm himself down for a moment before going back to where his husband is waiting. As soon as he steps out, he can hear two alphas talking a little to loud out of his sight, probably just right on the side of the restroom.

"What? He really married an omega? I thought he hate omegas."

"Yeah. Not even from a family with a good background. What a loser."

"The omega's pregnant, you say? It won't be long until his first affair comes out to the public."

"Wait for his rut to come. He's gonna go around looking for someone to fuck."

"Exactly. Pregnant omegas are useless."

He finds himself retreating back into the restroom in shame, locking himself in the far-end cubicle. He quietly sobs to himself, unaware that he's been inside for a long time now.

"Kyungsoo?" His alpha's voice echoes through the empty restroom and he quickly composes himself.

"I-I'll be out in a m-minute!"

Footsteps echo and he can see the older's feet through the gap under the door. "Open it."

He does as told, obedient as usual. "I'm fine."

"Don't lie. What's wrong?"

"Nothing. J-just probably the hormones acting up."

Obviously unconvinced, the alpha gently holds his hand and leads him out. "Let's go home."

--

The next day, he wakes up to the headlines he expected to happen. Even on TV, the news is biased. Everyone says good things about the 30-year-old business tycoon but not about him, the lowlife omega. Before he can get more insults, Jongin turns the TV off.

"You're coming with me," the alpha tells him, an order that he needs to get ready.

As if adding fuel to the fire, his husband's taking him to work with him. For what? So the others can see how pathetic he is?

He doesn't have the right to say no. What his alpha wants, his alpha gets. He's a nobody, he reminds himself.

Just as they head out to the elevator, the older stops and turns to him. "Don't worry. I'm here. Everything's going to be okay." For the first time, his husband gives him an affectionate kiss, not out of obligation, not because of sex. "I am your husband. You are my husband. There's just the two of us and no one else. Don't listen to them."

He can only nod.

"Good."

It's the first time he's entering the workplace. From the parking lot to the elevator was fine but once the door slid open, all eyes were on them.

All the disgusted looks thrown at him makes him nauseous and his alpha is unaware, swarmed with staff lining up to give him reports as they make their way into the office. He's just behind them, following like a poor puppy.

The whole floor is just for the executives, mostly alphas, in the company and it's where his husband's main office is located, at the far-end corner with a great panoramic view of the city.

An omega can only rely on pure luck to be working in this environment.

"Is there anything you want to eat?" His husband is already drowning in paperworks yet still have time to ask him. When he doesn't answer, the alpha looks up to see what he's doing, which is nothing but enjoying the view next to the window. "Would you prefer having breakfast outside?"

Right. He hasn't had breakfast yet.

"There's a shop downstairs, they make nice waffles. I think you'd like it."

"I'm fine with coffee," he says, knowing what the response would be.

"No coffee," the alpha sternly says, reaching for the intercom. "Ms. Lee, please come in."

Immediately, the door opens, a woman enters. Kyungsoo assumes she's the secretary.

"My husband needs his breakfast. Anything he requests, just no caffeine."

To have his alpha give him this much attention is still new to him but it may be because of the pregnancy. He wants the doctor's words to be true. It doesn't matter if his alpha wants him or not, he just wants their child to be accepted.

"Yes, sir," the woman assures, "I know the ones he can't take." She turns to him. "I had my baby last year, I'll take care of you."

He just realized it, she's a beta. He didn't expect that.

"Okay. Thank you."

"I can tour you in the buffet restaurant upstairs. There's plenty of dishes to choose from. Your baby knows exactly what to want when you see it."

He glances back to his alpha for permission and the approval only comes with a hand gesture, more like shoo-ing them away.

"It's really nice to finally meet you, Kyungsoo," the secretary tells him when they settle on their table with his food. "The wedding announcement was a big surprise to everyone here and we only knew about it the day after the ceremony. Everyone was curious about you."

"No wonder they were all staring when we arrived," he says in a low voice. The smell of coffee makes him feel uneasy. He loves coffee but he can't have that anymore. Since the first private doctor's visit, he hasn't had an ounce of his favorite drink.

"You know, I've been working for Mr. Kim for 6 years now. He's still a mystery to me. Everyone thinks I know him but they had no idea. All I know is his business, no personal stuff."

Even Kyungsoo can agree that he married a very private person who doesn't like talking about himself. They're going to celebrate their wedding anniversary in 2 months and he barely knows anything about his husband.

It must be the 8-year age gap that makes the difference. He's too young to understand what's in the mind of a 30-year-old businessman.

"It's not as bad as you think, given that Mr. Kim is a lot different than the alphas you surely heard of," the secretary adds. "Since he informed me that you both are expecting, he wanted his weekends cleared of any schedules and appointments are strictly within working hours. Before you got married, he literally had no rest. He used to have coffee in the office early in the morning and one day he said he didn't want the coffee because he had breakfast at home then he started leaving work early for dinner. It's good for me too since I have a kid at home. I want to spend time with my daughter."

"Your husband?"

"Oh, he's an alpha. He works at home so he takes care of our little girl himself. Our baby's a beta."

"Is your husband okay with your daughter being a beta?"

"Oh," she smiles with concern evident in her face. "Not every alpha is the same as the ones you hear in the news, Kyungsoo. I was just like you. I was married for convenience but sometimes, there's a reason why an alpha chooses the person they want to marry. Mr. Kim must have his own reasons too."

"Dr. Park said he knows why but didn't tell me. I don't even know how I was chosen. I had no idea who he was until the day of the wedding. We had no mutual acquaintances at the least."

"Curious."

"Kyungsoo."

He opens his eyes to his alpha's face close to him, mind still foggy to realize he's not at home. He fell asleep on the couch while reading a magazine.

Since his alpha turned off the TV to avoid him from stressing out about the news of them. They both know they're the hot topics of the day and it will go on for at least a week before it dies down.

"We're going home."

Kyungsoo groans, feeling the cramps on his arm from the uncomfortable position he was sleeping in. "Okay."

"Should we drop by a restaurant for dinner?"

"I'd like that," he admits. He's not in the mood to make dinner.

After dinner they went straight home but Jongin looks uneasy by the way the alpha is breathing heavily just as soon as they enter the lobby. He looks up at the older who's now sweating next to him.

"Alphaㅡ"

"You stay at a hotel for tonight." Jongin orders, asking for the receptionist to call a driver to send him to a hotel.

He can smell it, his alpha's pheromones getting stronger and unstable.

"You're in a rut," he whispers, quickly gesturing for the receptionist to stop. "It's okay. No need."

He struggles to pull the older with him to the elevator, Jongin not wanting them to spend the night in the same place. It is his duty as the husband to cater to his husband's needs.

"Kyungsoo, you're pregnant right now! I can't do this!" This is the first time his alpha raised his voice at him but it surprisingly doesn't scare him.

"It's okay. It's better this way. It's easier than spending your time alone and suffering for days, right?"

They reach the penthouse and the alpha has calmed down. He takes his phone out to give Dr. Park a call, asking if it's okay to help his alpha's rut in this state. The doctor says yes as long as they don't take it too rough.

He's confident in his alpha's self control just like the first time.

Before he can finish the call, a hand grabs him by the arm, a little rough but not painful. He's dragged into their bedroom, instantly finding himself face first against the mattress.

"Waitㅡ" he tries to beg but the older is already on his back, holding him down. "Alpha, please."

Jongin noses his exposed neck. "I love it when you call me Alpha."

He can tell that the older's trying to hold back as much as possible, the grip on his hands keep getting loose and firm. He manages to flip himself over and his alpha doesn't give him a chance to speak, crashing their lips together right away.

The only chance he gets is when the older pulls away to catch their breaths, blabbering everything he says in a hurry instead.

"Hmm?"

"Dr. P-park saidㅡ gentlyㅡ"

The alpha snickers and he finds that extremely attractive right now. "I know that. Don't worry."

--

"Look at you!"

Kyungsoo can only smile at the sight of his beta friend he hasn't seen in a while, waiting for him at the corner. He turns to see his husband driving away after dropping him off. "Hi, Sehun. It's been forever."

"Wow, your belly! I can't believe this!" Sehun helps him take his seat, making sure he's comfortable. "Just, wow!"

"How are you?"

"Fine, fine. Just the same. I'm more interested in how you've been doing. Seems like your alpha's treating you well."

He nods. "Uhm, yes. Since the pregnancy news, we have been a lot closer than we used to."

"You're luckyㅡ Baekhyun's here!" the beta's interrupted, waving his hands to catch another omega's attention. "Over here!"

"Soo!" the said omega rushes to him immediately, wrapping him in his arms. "I missed you so much! The last time I saw you, you weren't pregnant!"

He misses his friends too, he wants to catch up with them but it's almost impossible to meet recently. "Anything big coming?"

"I got a job," the beta announces. "And I may or may not have a crush on our boss. That's all."

"Well, me? I'm getting married soon. It's a private wedding too so I can't really invite you, guys. It sucks." Baekhyun sobs. "My life has come to an end!"

"You're still a drama queen," Sehun mutters.

"Easy for you to say, you're a beta. You get to choose your partner."

He places a hand on the omega's shoulder, comforting him. He knows exactly how that feels. "I'm sure your alpha's going to be good to you."

"They said he's a doctor and guess what? Doctors have affairs in their workplace!"

The beta groans. "You watch too much drama."

"Shut up, Sehun! I hope no one marries you!"

His friends may sound rude but he's used to it. They're all used to it. Kyungsoo only laughs at them and waves his hand between them. "This conversation is not healthy for my baby. Baek, I'm sure he'll be a good alpha to you. My doctor's an alpha. He's really nice."

The omega huffs, stealing Sehun's plate. "Unless he's named Park Chanyeol, I won't trust any alpha."

"Yeah, him. Dr. Park Chanyeol. He's my doctor. Actually, Jongin's going to see him right now."

"What?"

It's a small world, he thinks. His alpha confirms to him that the doctor is tye one who's marrying his friend. He's happy to know that another omega will be in good hands.

Dining outside had been done quite often though his alpha still defends that his food is better than any fancy cuisines.

"I was thinking we should stay somewhere else while you recover after you give birth," Jongin starts, browsing through his phone in the middle of their dinner. "Away from the city, where you can get fresh air."

That's next month, he thinks. One more month and they'll be welcoming their little boy. "How about your work?"

"Work would still be there even if I take a leave for a couple of months. I already have the rest house prepared for accommodation." The alpha puts his phone down with a smile.

He'd been smiling too often lately.

"Do you know what today is?"

"Today?" He cocks his head to the side. "Sunday?"

"Right." Jongin pulls something out of his coat pocket and places it on top of the table. "It's our wedding anniversary."

Oh no. He forgot.

He stares at the jewelry box that has been set right in front of him, embarrassed not only because he forgot but also, he doesn't have a gift. He doesn't earn money in the first place. Jongin has given him a majestic black card for him to use and every transaction is sent to the alpha's phone.

"Open it," the alpha urges him.

He pulls the cover up, a chain of gold bracelet welcomes his sight. There's no way he can afford anything this expensive even if he has a job.

Jongin stands up from his seat to put the gold chain around his wrist. "Do you like it?"

"Yes, alpha. I really like it."

"You also promised not to call me that."

"But you also said you love it when I do."

"I did." His husband holds his hand up closer to the lips. "I love everything my omega does." Jongin places a kiss on his hand, earning mixed reactions from the other diners.

He keeps his head down from the attention and maybe to hide his blushing face.

He hears the alpha chuckle as the man walks back to his seat. "Loyal alphas are so rare it shocks people."

"I don't have any gift," he says, still bothered by the fact that he can never give anything to his alpha.

"I already said it's okay," the alpha joins him on the couch to watch the movie. "I am not asking for anything."

Still, gifts aren't asked. They're just given or received with good intentions. He decides to give something he can afford and it takes the alpha off-guard.

"Getting bold, aren't we?" Jongin teases.

"It's just a kiss. I thought you'd like it."

Considering how their relationship progressed, they're now comfortable sharing affection here and there. After all, Jongin is a loyal alpha and that's all he needs.

"Of course, I do. If only I can do more…"

"I'll try."

"Kyungsoo, I love you."

It's the first time he hears his alpha say those words to him. He's in tears but instead of saying it back, he grabs a handful of the alpha's hair. Hard. "You can't choose a better time to say that?!"

"I'm sorry! Please let go of myㅡ ow!"

They're in the backseat of the car on the way to the hospital and his alpha had the guts to confess right when he's in labor. He can't help but share the pain this way.

Three hours later, a baby boy is born.

"Kim Yohan?" He questions his husband's taste in names.

"Like it?"

He weakly nods. He just woke up from his rest after delivery. "When can I see him?"

"Later. You should rest a bit more."

He gives his alpha a stare, mind blank. "You're really handsome."

"I think you're still high from anesthesia."

"I'm upset you don't take my compliments. You said you love me."

The older moves closer to him, brushing his fringe away. "I did. I'll say it next time when you're better." He receives a soft kiss on his forehead. "You need to rest."

Kim Yohan is the most beautiful baby. He has a fair share of their genes and an alpha just like Jongin.

Kyungsoo is still in awe, disbelieving he has given birth to an amazing future alpha. Everything he was so scared of when he married his alpha turns out to be the blessings he needed.

It's almost two months since he gave birth and everything is amazing. Their baby, his alpha and the rest house up in the mountains. He's loving this place. It's peaceful, quiet and has fresh air.

While preparing their son's formula, he feels a hand move from his back down to his thigh. "I was thinking, Noah is a nice name too."

He playfully nudges the older with his elbow. "Yohan's barely 2-months old."

"I am aware."

He turns around and hands the bottle to his husband. "I have a question for my alpha."

"Yes?"

"Of all other omegas out there, why me?"

"Well, that may sound creepy if I tell you."

"You were stalking me?"

"You can say that but I asked someone else."

"Oh. I am questioning my life choices now."

His husband tightly hugs him, laughing to himself. "That's too late now. Besides, it's not like I did it in a bad way. I saw you two years ago, around a year before we got married. You went on a trip with your friends at the ㅇㅇ Temple, right?"

He pushes the older away, eyes wide at the memory. "You were there?"

"I was next to you while you were praying to be exact. I just didn't look like a businessman back then but I was with Chanyeol and another friend. Your friend asked you what you wished for and I still remember what you said, clear as day."

"Uhuh." He vaguely remembers that. "I'm sure I would have noticed a handsome guy like you. You're making this up."

"I am not. You can ask Chanyeol. We took pictures there. But anyway, you said, If someone marries me, I hope I won't be unhappy like my brother. I was fully aware of what you meant."

He did say that. In those exact words.

"Then you accidentally dropped your coin that bounced off the railing so you looked disappointed that your wish might not come true."

Maybe his husband isn't lying after all. "Okay."

"Then I asked someone to do some background check on you since my own parents said I should settle down and that I was almost thirty. I would have married you earlier if you weren't studying then." Jongin dips down to kiss the corner of his lips. "Did you, at any point, feel unhappy with me?"

"Not exactly. I wasn't really expecting anything. I honestly thought you're one of those alphas I hear about."

"I just didn't know how to approach you but I tried to spend time with you at home as much as I could. The baby really came as a surprise. I wasn't ready."

"Neither was I," he says, a hand on his alpha's arm. "That's why I apologized then. I knew it wasn't in your plan yet."

"I wasn't ready but I was happy, only that I didn't feel so invested until the first ultrasound. It was just then that it dawned on me that there's actually a living thing inside you."

He couldn't help the smile on his face at his alpha's words. "It sounds funny if you put it that way."

There's a moment of comfortable silence with the alpha only wanting to be cuddled. He loves moments like this. It's genuine and it's just the two of them.

"I love you," his alpha blurts out. "I know this is a good time to say it."

"I love you too, my alpha."
