Chapter Text
Three villages united by one goddess, all in her territory. One in a lush forest covered in emerald and viridian greens, the other in the cold of the mountain capped in dense snow, and the last in the harsh and barren desert. All three of these seemingly different communities united under the protection of the goddess Chiyo, the vigil of healing and prosperity.
Chiyo has longed to care for children her entire godhood, but she cannot produce one due to her pact of maidenhood. This leads her to bless three mothers, one from each village, on the rose moon. Each mother is to give birth to an extraordinary child and must give them to her after seven days.
The task is easy for the mothers from the forest and the mountain, but the last mother from the desert sand had to sneak away in the dead of night from her cruel husband who wished to use his son to take over the other villages. So she snuck away with her baby and a bag of glass she had harvested during her pregnancy. They took refuge with the mountain’s mother to assure her and her child’s protection and traveled to the forest to meet the other mother.
All three of them travels the half days worth to the temple and start on the boat, the base made of dark wood from the forest, the sides have tiny jewels from the mountain, and finally, the glass is placed in a mosaic pattern around the rim held in place by thick honey. They wrap the babies in silk and cotton and place them in the vessel. The babies are strangely quiet as if they knew what was happening, and the mothers appreciated it. The three hold back their tears as their babies floated away from them and prayed to the goddess to take care of them.
